Johnny probably sat there drinking and trying to come up with the best thing to say to Terry, and then when he finally called he was too drunk to think of anything better.

I can't decide whether John would just walk out of the restaurant after being told Terry wouldn't be back for a while, or if he'd just sit there and wait, getting more and more grumpy about it. And yes I could imagine him being an apple pie guy (partially because yep it's a classic, but also I think we only ever see him eating apples!)
