This is really good! I love all the references to Thai language and customs, it helps contextualise the world and society of Kumandra (or Fang as we've seen here). Also the moments between the characters - Chief Virana peeling prawns for her daughter, the washing of hands in lime was such a recognisable moment to me as a SEA-sian reader.
I also liked the characterisation of Namaari and the Fang people's philosophy:
“It’s if we can protect it and mix our labor in with it. What’s ours is a part of our soul.” She peeled open another prawn, “That includes our people, Namaari. Chief Benja’s ideas are unrealistic because you can’t work with people from all around Kumandra and protect them. They’re not connected to us and we can’t connect with them.”
Oh yeah I'm trying to (subtly) incorporate culture as much as I can and I'm glad you can relate to it. I don't quite know the other SEA countries super well though so if there's any practice you'll like to suggest I can see if it goes together with my story outline!
And that's pretty cool you noticed the philosophy! While Buddhism doesn't actually believe in the concept of souls, it's pretty clear that that exists in Kumandra. Thailand also does mix Buddhism with Hinduism so I borrowed John Locke's idea of Labor Property with the concept of souls for this idea. (yeah, I've added a bit of what I learned in class to this fanfic XD)
