Comment on Elemental Caterpillar

  1. Verreaux's eagle-owl.

Agna Qel'a is basically cold Encanto, really - the NWT; its politics, cultural & spiritual worldbuilding, characters, and all the nuances in between, is really compelling and ripe for exploration, and it'll be interesting if you could write how that compares to the Encanto, from Sokka's POV (which is always a riot) - especially when both Arnook & Alma run tight ships, and there's a certain princess that, for Sokka, will be as close to his Pedro as it gets. Even though, unlike for Alma, that goodbye won't be forever - Yue does have Aang's back, and Aang does talk to Yue, so Sokka will find a way to communicate with Yue, with that forming an important part of his life (see comrade-katara's posts on Sokka for a lot more on this).

(Sokka POVs are a riot. Always. Can't help it from the ADHD STEM genius who is also certifiably insane in a way that would make even Alma shudder.)

Basically, Sokka's got chances that he doesn't even know he has at this point in time - chances that Alma never got.

What distinguishes Sokka from Alma (even through the same coping mechanisms - his mannerisms even mirror Alma's to a T) is his adaptability & intelligence, which both far outstrip Alma's (Piandao said as much about him in canon); if he's serious about learning from Julieta how to cook, he'll learn far faster than she herself probably did from Alma, if his swordsmanship lessons from Piandao in canon are any indication. Heck, Julieta will probably be as proud as Piandao in any case. He's a blindingly fast learner. Of course, he and Luisa will probably have a lot to talk about where cultural stuff is concerned - he's more than capable of critically analyzing art as things stand, seeing as he's mastered haikus in less than half an hour. Will definitely endear him to Luisa, to no end.

Sokka is criminally underrated as a character tbh. He's basically Alma, but a genius, polymath & a frankly very hot guy. (Even if Alma was probably also very hot too in her youth - if her daughters and the glimpses of her younger self we get in Dos Oruguitas are any indication; Pedro would certainly agree with me, even in canon.) To quote comrade-katara, "ppl meet Sokka and they’re either like “this is a god among men. a perfect specimen. I would gladly lay down my life for him” or they’re like “wow idk why but I fucking hate the vibes on this kid. I want to bully him til the end of time.”" While father figures love him already in general, Alma will be the exception, definitely, as she's not a father figure, meaning that Sokka won't have to fear disappointing her the way he does, say, Piandao. It'll be hard for her to choose a favorite among the Gaang, but she'll definitely shower him with pure, unadulterated adoration. And why wouldn't she, given her life experiences?

    (TL;DR: Swag recognizes swag.)

(Alma and Katara will probably be quite tight, too... but that's for another comment altogether. Keep in mind that Katara is also very, very selfish too - a lot more like Isabela than she'd like to admit, except that she's 100% straight. Which makes her a better example for Isa tbh - she's selfish, but that doesn't stop her from being the compassionate revolutionary she is. Selfishness isn't necessarily a bad thing, to be frank.)
