"The sheets must smell like Cas, but it’s been a long time since he was able to tell." This sentence absolutely knocked me out at the knees because it says so much about their intimacy and how settled they are with each other. Which of course makes it all the more heartbreaking that they have to separate - and then it's even worse because Dean thinks his days are already numbered. 😭
I love established relationship in a canon setting so much and this is really hitting all of my buttons. Cas telling Dean he didn't do anything wrong and holding him while he cries is everything to me. Also, this slots right into what I enjoy about late season Dea, which is how he's really quite satisfied and settled in himself and his family. Like you said - so close to what he wants, which makes it all the harder to face losing what he did manage to get.
And then of course the whole complexity of trying to relate to John in the first place - the awkwardness of it all, and the conflicted feelings it engenders. Ugh. Perfect.
