Brilliant! All of the prompts in one story, and a great story, at that! I loved it!
You have a flair for procedural stories, ones that follow an episode-like pattern, and this is no exception. The crime and its solution make a lovely backdrop to the reintroduction to Lili and her quest to help Nick. I particularly liked that Nick still resisted the urge to feed in front of her. It highlights his desire to become human again so poignantly.
Did I misinterpret your use of the prompt, or did you use “a lucky break, a chance meeting, and a friend in need” both for Nick and for LaCroix? At cross purposes, of course! And, of course, all of the parties in this story have secrets to keep!
And to have Natalie unravel LaCroix’s intent, rekindling the flagging friendship between her and Nick, is a brilliant touch.
Thank you for your kind response. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I believe there are several situations that match the prompt "lucky break, a chance meeting, and a friend in need". What I actually thought of was the straight forward solving of the crime by spotting the tattoo (lucky break), meeting the nephew at home (chance meeting) and Schanke's search of a birthday present for Myra (friend in need). But then of course there is Lily finding a trace of the book (lucky break), meeting Thomas as guest professor in Berlin (chance meeting) and Nick as the friend in need. For "keeping secrets" I had Natalie and Lili in mind who both kept Nick's secret.
I'm hopeful that with Nick and Nat's rekindled friendship, season 3 might take a better turn.
