And I generally go off the show's air date and it started in 2013, but for that idea I'd just fuck up the timeline, move the events of Hannibal back a couple decades, or tell people to ignore it, haha. And wow, that's a really neat idea. Not exactly what I was thinking for that particular fic, but that's a really good premise for another one, truly fascinating. If you feel the urge, go forth and write it! And don't apologize, I love brainstorming things with people :D

Really, Harry Potter doesn't, in canon, really mess with the Muggle side of things, so it could just as easily have been set now. And the show could have just as easily been set in the 80's or 90's instead of now, but for the background tech and mentioned culture references.
I just really needed to get down that stream of consciousness. I may eventually try to make something out of it, but my muses tend to send me an idea, then go on extended vacations, leaving me with a great idea but chronic writers' block.

Very true, there's a reason it's the easiest fandom to crossover with, lol.
And no problem, I totally understand. This fic is the easiest one for me to write but that's really because I'm spending most of it just following the episodes, lol. A later chapter where it has no episode is driving me bonkers trying to just get it written.
