Rosa canina - the dog rose - symbolizes love, purity and marriage. It also represents pleasure and pain: "Pain" because its medicinal properties were believed to include treating the bite of a mad dog; and "pleasure" because in the old days, a king would place it at the end of a maiden's bed to signify his interest in her company in his royal chamber.

Bruce Wayne’s love life and marriage are entangled with the dog rose.
