Summary
“Hey, um, Morty.”
“Yeah?” Morty looks up, handing over the tool Rick just asked for.
Rick takes it, fiddling with it in his hands. Morty seems to know immediately that something is off when he does, a frown tugging on his lips, and Rick has to force the words out but he gets there in the end. “How… How long have you known that I’m not your Rick?”
(In another world, slightly to the left, Rick agonizes over the eventuality of Morty realizing that he’s not his Rick, only to find out Morty has already figured it out.)

Summary
How is he supposed to fight a guy who just patches himself back together like that? What kind of weapon will do enough to compete with being shot in the head and still coming back? God— why are the lights so bright in here? Why is everything blurry? Is the ground moving or is it just him? Is gravity increasing on him? Why—
“You’re looking a little pale.” Prime tells him— definitely amused. It hits Rick like a sack of bricks then, and Prime’s smile widens when he sees it in his eyes. “Just one touch is all it takes, huh?”
Touch. Rick thinks as the ground seems to give out beneath him— or maybe that’s just his legs. It doesn’t matter— he hits the floor gasping either way, trembling and completely having lost control of the situation. All he knows is Prime did something. Put something in his system— through the touch? Skin to skin contact? Whatever it is, it’s strong.
(Rick tries to protect Morty, Prime is a walking mindfuck of a person, and Morty is through with Rick-related bullshit. Needless to say, the first real confrontation with Prime does not go well. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to salvage from the encounter.)

Summary
Prime waves a hand over Morty’s sleeping form. Rick’s throat tightens. “Everyone has a pressure point! Finding yours was easy— hell, I could take my pick! But this felt fitting.” His eyes dart over to Morty, chuckling. “After all this time, you’re still dragging my Morty around. You care about him— that’s fucking hilarious, you know that?”
Rick has to swallow down the bile that rises to his throat. He stands stiffly in the doorway and tries to keep his tone from trembling when he finally finds his voice. “What the hell do you want from me?”
Prime looks him over, an open and cocky grin fading into a confident and smug smile. “I wanted to talk, C-137. Is that so bad?”
“You’re threatening my grandson to do it.” His voice cracks a little at that. He hates himself for it.
“My grandson technically.” Prime rolls his eyes. “But whatever, I guess it’s fair. Never got your own Morty, right?”
(A nightmare urges Rick to check on the rest of the family members. Turns out, his fears might not have been so unfounded. In the aftermath, an honest conversation about who Prime is and how he should be dealt with is born.)

Summary
One of his cybernetic limbs fires and a yelp rings out. Mortimer’s gaze trails over to see Morty’s Rick, about fifty or so feet back, looking nervous. A laser burn has been painted in the wall next to him, as are two others nearby. Clearly not his first attempt to get closer.
Emergency protocols are still working then.
…Wait.
Mortimer double takes. His emergency protocol is one of the few untouched parts he has left. A quick diagnosis report, albeit a tad slower than normal, reveals that it hasn’t been tampered with or has any known glitches. It’s doing its job: protecting him from threats like Rick C-137 while his body is severely injured and unable to protect itself.
Which begs the question for why Morty C-137 is right next to him, completely untouched and unthreatened.
(If Evil Morty ever takes a genuinely bad hit, he has backup protocols to protect him while he’s down, keeping threats away while he recovers. For some reason, said protocols do not perceive Morty C-137 as a threat.)

Summary
“Rick!” Morty scrambles, going ramrod straight. “I— I was— I was just—” His poor attempt at a good excuse falters as he lays eyes on the other Morty, picking himself up off the ground. “…Rick?” Morty says again, wary and hesitant all wrapped up in one. “Why… Why is there another Morty with you?”
The Other Morty glares at Morty first before his attention shifts to Rick. Both of them are on their feet again, and Rick knows the calm before the storm before it happens. “So we’re doing it here? In front of your perfect, little Morty?”
Behind him, Morty shuffles back. “R— Rick?”
“Under the table, Morty.” Rick tells him quickly, leaking urgency into his voice.
Morty moves, diving under the workbench where a protective bubble is activated immediately. At the exact same time, Other Morty launches himself at Rick, and Rick narrowly dodges the punch.
(Rick never had a Morty from his dimension, but there was one before Prime’s Morty that could’ve been considered his. He should’ve anticipated him turning out to be a supervillain because of him but now he knows. And it’s time to mend the gap.)

Summary
He knows it’s fake. Morty would go so far as to say pretty much everyone else is a part of that fabrication, considering all of them are acting a little too much like he expects them to. There’s something wrong with him too however— like he’s out of place. Trying to jam a puzzle piece into a slot that doesn’t fit.
Morty might have memories of being a part of their family but it doesn’t mean they’re true. Maybe that’s why he feels so wrong all the time. None of this is his.
He needs a way out. Morty has no proof of it but every second he spends here feels like another second he spends suffocating under its presence. His headaches only ever happened when Morty began to question things more.
Someone or something doesn’t want him leaving, but Morty refuses to be eaten alive.
(Ending up in and getting out of a simulated reality was hard enough. The side effects it caused and the old wounds it opened up in the process however, are a whole other bag of worms that might not be so easily dealt with. Not alone, at least.)

Summary
The remote controller inside ‘Evil’ Rick’s head may keep him under his control, but Minerva doesn’t like his presence. Her claws sometimes pierce through his pocket and stab into his skin when he’s around.
Considering the nature of her existence, that probably says something about him. But Mortimer is numb and he doesn’t let it shake him off their course.
“They’ll notice if it’s a lone Morty.” Mortimer reminds her. “He’s camouflage. All blame will get pinned on him and that gives us an out.”
“Couldn’t we make an android instead?” She argues.
“They’ll know the difference. The remote controller is discreet.” Mortimer reminds her. Minerva mutters under her breath about it not being worth the price and hating his face. Mortimer hears it all but doesn’t have a good enough reply.
(Evil Morty comes from an universe where everyone has a Daemon. This does not make his life any easier.)

Summary
When he takes too long to reply, Candidate Morty starts talking. “You were right before. Out of the two of us, you should be nervous. Your plan to confront a highly dangerous individual with no weapons, no bugs, no backup or anything to ensure you’d walk out of the room again, was foolish at best and suicidal at worst. You came to accuse me of my crimes and wanted to talk to me alone?”
“I— I’m not trying to threaten you.” Campaign Morty manages at last, opening his eyes again. Candidate Morty stands, circling around to lean on the edge of his desk with his arms crossed.
“Oh?” He asks. “Enlighten me, what is your plan here? Because it’s stupid enough that I can’t figure out what it is.”
(Campaign Manager Morty is handed a file with everything he needs to know about the kind of person 'Presidential Candidate Morty’ really is. He confronts him directly, intriguing Evil Morty enough to hear him out.)
