Summary
The eggs were the perfect motivation to keep people on the island. But that sort of thing, that so closely emulated a real child, that people would bond with and strive to take care of, that couldn't be artificially created. That required life. That required an incubator.

Having to withstand a far more sexual form of torture than he'd expected, he wonders if it would really be so bad to not entirely hate a Federation worker.
