Their first mission for Cid goes badly. Captured by the Zygerrians, Hunter is sold off to be a sex slave before he and the Batch can escape. Unwilling to drag the rest of the squad to where he’s been taken, and not only because they have a kid to protect, Hunter turns to the one brother who has the resources to get him out: Crosshair. Even if calling Crosshair means calling the Empire. There was a time when Crosshair would do anything to protect them.

“Hunter, this is not you,” Tech says tightly. “Remember what Omega told us about the chips. You’re being controlled.”
Crosshair shoves forward. “Wrong,” he drawls.

Freedom, for Hunter, does not last long after the Batch leave Kamino. After being captured by Zygerrians, after contacting Crosshair to extract him, Hunter is taken back to Kamino to have his chip activated. Now loyal to the Empire, he and Crosshair are sent on a mission to track down the rest of the Batch, a mission which will push them both to their limits. Hunter means to follow orders, but Crosshair is beginning to have questions. Treasonous questions.

“Where is here?” he asks, fingers clenching on his helmet as he opens the door.
Echo’s posture appears casual, but Hunter can see a tension to him that betrays his wariness. “Bracca,” he tells him, and he’s not lying. His heartrate is steady. “There’s a facility here. We can get our chips out.”
Hunter moves without thinking, putting himself squarely between Echo and Crosshair. “No.”

Going rogue for the second time, Hunter is conflicted. He went along with it because the only alternative was hurting his brothers, but that doesn’t mean he’s convinced their course of action is correct, no matter what Crosshair insists. They made a mistake by leaving the Empire, and Crosshair is making one now by insisting they run for the second time. The question… is what Hunter plans to do about it.
