"You can stay, y'know." Her voice cut through his thoughts. He noticed the slight quiver of her hands. "You don't have to keep running."
He shook his head. "You know I can't."
"Why not?" Her voice grew louder, the question more of a demand. She was pleading with him, pleading to know why he wouldn't just slow down.
Every time I stop, every time I slow down, someone gets hurt. You'll get hurt. You'll die. He wanted to say. He wanted to make her understand."You don't need me!" He said instead.
"Bullshit." She breathed out, stepping farther into his space.

"I told you I'd come back." That was all he said. Despite the grin on his face, his eyes shined with uncertainty, as though he wasn't sure how she'd react to his presence appearing in her life once again.
"Where the hell..." She started. Her voice quivered against her will. "Have you been?"
Just as he opened his mouth to answer she raced forward, all but throwing herself into his arms. He stumbled back slightly in surprise, before quickly recovering. His arms wrapped around her shoulders firmly, holding her tightly against his chest.
He let out a deep sigh, one Donna could tell he'd been holding in for years.
Or, The doctor leaves to continue his travels, and Donna stays with her family on earth. He promises to visit, but he never does. She waits for him. Every day. Every second. She'll never stop. One day, he'll come back. She knows.
