Summary
So, this is the first I've ever been able to turn in fanfiction (albeit fringe fanfiction) for a class and my teacher says this is one of the only assignments she's ever read that made her smile. It's not a very smile-y work, I suppose, but I thought I'd put it out here anyway.
All of the quotes come from the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass except for the last one (the one about the universal definition of a slave), Lose Your Mother by Saidiya Hartman.
