Jaw Man flicked his middle finger up at Ilya, who didn’t seem to mind, and gestured towards Shane and Hayden with raised eyebrows. “The f*** are you even doing right now, man.”
Ilya said briefly, “Orgy.”
“Uh,” said Shane, “no, that’s not—”
Ilya grinned at him. It was a mean-edged grin but something about it seemed to suggest that he was joking with Shane, rather than about him. “Oh, he speaks.”
“We’re not here for an orgy,” Shane said to Jaw Man. “We’re missionaries with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Summary
Shane Hollander, first-round draft pick of 2009, captain of the legendary Montreal Metros, is twenty-seven years old and has never won the Stanley Cup; it's starting to seem like maybe he never will. It's time Shane started thinking about a second act that will change his post-retirement narrative and give him the one thing he can't bring himself to contemplate: a life without hockey.

"I have to go soon," Shane rasped. He was wearing a Dynamo sweater even though he had plenty of his own clothes here. Sleep still clouded his mouth.
Ilya could have done anything then. Said he needed sleep. Gone to kiss Shane where the hoodie string had left an imprint across one cheek. It wasn't a free day for Shane. At best they had an hour.
Instead he said, without any conscious thought at all: "How did he fuck you?"
