All he knows is that he doesn't want them to end, even if he knows none of it is real. After all, why would a pro hero like Duality ever look twice at a quirkless analyst like him?

    OR: Izuku keeps meeting Shoto in his dreams. He never expects to find out that they're real.

    Izumi is five and has just been diagnosed quirkless when she sees the interview.

    "Well, y'know, heroes save people but what saves the heroes is support tech. With good enough gear, heroes can imitate quirks they don't have: armor for invulnerability, jet packs for flight, etc."

    It's another six years before UA lifts its ban on quirkless applicants to the hero program. By that point, though, no one needs to tell Izumi that she can be a hero. She may not have been born with a quirk but with intelligence, creativity, and access to the junkyard that is Dagobah Beach, she can be just as effective as anyone who was.

    The head engineer of pro hero Dynamight’s Support Department is something of a legend. They’re the best of the best, but no one has a clue as to their identity. The Shouto Agency is given a single clue in the form of a name: Deku.
    Shouto has others things to worry about than this mystery, though. After recently discovering he’s demisexual (that explains so much!), he decides it’s time he finally entered the dating pool, and he has his eyes set on the delivery boy working for Bakugou. Or maybe he’s actually a security guard? A PR rep? Or maybe an accountant? Honestly, what is Midoriya Izuku’s job???

    “You,” Shouto says under his breath. He can barely conceal the irritation in his voice.

    The man jolts, blinking at him and straightening out of his lean. His eyes are a vibrant colour that makes Shouto think of forest walks, leaves blooming back into life in the changing of the seasons. “Me?”

    “Yeah, you.” Shouto scowls at the stranger. “You’re the one who’s made the entire apartment building smell like lemongrass for weeks.”
