Summary
Kon- El was a world class fuck up. It was kind of impressive, really.
Everything in his life seemed to go horribly wrong. Maybe it was the universe's way of telling him he didn't belong, that he was unnatural.Everyone around him kept telling him to "do the right thing" but each person's definition of "right" seemed to be vastly different. Kon never knew when something was the "right thing" and following his own intuition almost always led him to making things worse.
The pressure of making decisions was not a light burden to bear, but it was made slightly easier by a little birdie on his shoulder who was perfectly willing to overthink all those hard decisions for him when necessary, and also to scold him when necessary. A leader who could run through every possible outcome in seconds, and always seemed to land on the right decision. Someone who Kon trusted, body and soul, someone whose opinions Kon valued, all except for his taste in music.
Really, how long could one song title be? Kon preferred his music fast and angry at the world.

“We could have had so much,” Jay muttered, eyes still focused out his window across the bay.
“Yes, you very well could have.”
“But she’s not coming back, is she, old sport?”
“No, she’s not,” Nick said softly, as if his tone might spare Gatsby’s feelings.
Or: Gatsby doesn't from the gunshot, instead he becomes entirely Nicks problem and they both have weird repressed gay feelings about it. Gatsby's caught between a woman who he's chased so far he's not quite sure how to stop and a man who will has been and always will be waiting to help him catch his breath when he finally does manage to stop all this chasing. Who likes cardio anyways?
