Memories are returning as the Dark is Rising. Again.
I have used 1978 as the year that 'Silver on the Tree' is set and this takes place about 15 years afterwards, so events take place in 1993/4. Like Susan Cooper I've tried not to use too many things that can pin it down to a specific date, so if people want to think it takes place at a different time, they can!

Summary
When Wednesday needs a date to attend a mysterious, high-society funeral (that she suspects is really a cover for a secret cult meeting), Xavier volunteers to play the role of her devoted boyfriend.
What was supposed to be a one-day undercover mission spirals into an ongoing charade when rumors about their “relationship” explode around Nevermore, forcing them to keep up appearances while she investigates the cult, and he tries not to fall even harder for her.

When the next letter arrived, Zuko let it sit on his desk for a whole day before opening it, as if somehow Sokka would sense, a continent away, that he was still pretty pissed about Sokka trying to rope Iroh into this whole festival visit insanity. Finally, his point proven to literally no one except himself, Zuko waited until after a long bending practice, then a full bath, before he casually picked up the letter and broke the seal.

Katara had never left Sokka before, had never imagined having to separate herself from Aang or Toph — but, on the other hand, she had also never planned to get eaten by a sea serpent at the ripe old age of nineteen, so she ignored the agony in her leg, turned her back on the others, and ran as fast as she could.
It was just temporary, she reminded herself. She would get to the city just a few days after them, tops.
