    As a result of the butterfly effect, the smallest change in past events leads to fundamental changes in the future—a complete alteration. And thus, a multitude of new possibilities arise, while other possibilities are lost forever. This is exactly what happened when the grandson of the owner of the white philosophers' stone manipulated time in an attempt to save his family. Just as in the original story, he failed to accomplish his goal. But in this story, apart from everything else, he made it back. He survived. And now he is out for blood.

    Really, Alex had more of a life left than Nigel. He could go home, fabricate some story, condemn Nigel with his own delusions and get off scot-free. Of course he could – he was in the position to, wasn’t he, smart and white and with a future, free of bias from the system. But this control over Nigel – he didn’t want to relinquish that. And Nigel had nowhere to go.
       And, although he would never say it out loud, the rush of the gun under his chin and Nigel at his feet was something that he would quite like to replicate. The risk. The reward.

    The gun misfires. Alex realises he can hold himself hostage to keep Nigel alive. They flee to London and begin to dance around faux-normality, but it won't last long.
