Someone caught them.
A child, a little girl with thick red hair and golden body paint that glittered under the spotlights. She flew, rocketing out of the backstage curtain, red hair turning into a trail of fire behind her. Bruce could see her expression as she launched herself at the falling acrobats, the naked fear, obvious even with the flamboyant mask worn over her eyes.
She caught them.

When Fire Lord Azulon ordered Iroh to adopt Zuko, it seemed like the magic wand that would fix everything that was wrong in Zuko's life. But life inevitably finds a way to blow up in Zuko's face. A loose retelling of the Avatar story featuring Fire Lord Iroh, angsty Azula, Zuko joining Team Avatar in first season, and a Mai who is definitely (not?) going to kill Zuko.
