Summary
Vi shook her head as she scrolled, trying to clear the sting of the loss and the twisting, heated memory of Caitlyn’s form against her rattling around in her brain.
It didn’t work.
It never worked.
Vi still remembered their first fight clearly, even years later.
The image of Caitlyn walking into the ring was still fresh in her mind: the shocking blue of her eyes sparking under the bright lights, her body slender, but muscled, her angular face stoic and focused, her mouth a harsh line across her face.
Vi had been worried she was going to snap her in half.
She scoffed as she remembered just how fucking wrong she’d been.
Caitlyn had wiped the floor with her. She’d had to work for it - a change from her other fights, Vi found out later - but she had.
After that, her training regimen was pretty much exclusively focused on beating Caitlyn.
She hated losing.

Summary
Beatrice has life figured out. She has a home, a family that found her when she needed them most, and a fulfilling job keeping the bees and garden her grandparents left her as a part of her inheritance she was never supposed to receive, along with a summer farmer’s market stand out of which she sells the honey from said bees. She’s settling in for what she hopes will be her first calm summer in years until one Ava Silva shows up, a whirlwind of a girl with the brightness of the sun and the energy to match, and the quiet summer turns into something brighter than Beatrice thinks possible.

Summary
Ava watches Bea go, wondering how someone walking can be such a perfect thing to witness. She looks long enough that she sees Bea look back over her shoulder just before she turns a corner and lifts her hand in a goodbye as Mary snickers next to her. As soon as Bea is out of sight, Ava brings her elbow hard into Mary’s side, stumbling with the effort when Mary neatly sidesteps her.
“Have to be quicker than that.” Mary sidesteps her a second time, still grinning. “Listen, you can sit here and drool over Bea or we can go bust some ghosts.”
Ava opens the van’s panel door and shrugs. “Why limit myself to one thing?”
