Summary
There Humans and then there are Kits, beings that generally look human, except for an extra set of ear (cat ears) and a cat tail, and a few more cat-like internal difference. In the USA Kits are defined more as animals than people and any Kit who isn't owned, or has spent too long in a shelter is often put down for their own good.
One day, aspiring Businessman Dean Winchester finds an abandoned adult Kit in the snow.
