“So uh…She’s- Yuki-onna is a snow spirit said to appear on winter nights. She’s described as a lonely yet beautiful woman as pale and light as snow, freezing to the touch, with a habit of siphoning the warmth out of people with a single touch. Or a kiss, depending on the version.”
“Oh!” Rocky exclaimed, “Like Grace!”
“Wha- Excuse me?” Grace startled.
“Grace have freezing body temperature.” Rocky said matter-of-factly, “Grace beautiful and lonely and fragile. Grace skin organ flimsy and light like snow. Grace could kill Rocky with freezing touch or kiss.”
And Rocky would let him, thank him even, for his touch like burning ice. So-Cold-It-Burns with oxygenated flames for lips and long fingers like burrowing needles of ice, but it would be touch.

“Well… we do need to care a little. Some viruses cause more severe infections than others. Influenza, for example, is pretty inconvenient for most people. It can cause nausea, fever, nose leaking, aches, coughing, and more. It can even be deadly for people with weak immune systems, like children or the very old. We definitely take it seriously when someone vulnerable gets infected. Influenza is one of the diseases we vaccinate for. Who remembers what vaccination is?”
The entire class raised their claws. Grace facepalmed.
“Right, duh. Forget I asked.”
♪Cannot forget.♪ Someone chimed, eliciting several giggling thrills.
OR
Ryland Grace has an annoyingly short lifespan by Eridian standards. Rocky fix. Good thing Grace is there to teach the Eridians everything they need to know about human biology.

"You should teach me to read those before we get to Erid, so I can be polite." As Grace considered the linework, already picking up on some vague ideas from the shapes in Rocky's carapace, something else occurred to him. "So… I picked 'Rocky' because your outer shell looks like stone."
"And for inspirational story of athlete who defeats human system of poverty to become great champion. Eye of the tiger."
"Retroactively, yeah." Grace bent at the hips, getting to Rocky's 'eye' level. "So what'd you name me?"

Summary
The thing is, Grace longs for connection. He wants to have a partner, and he wants to be close to them in every way possible. But he’s not sure if he can even feel love the way most people do. He’s not even sure he’s ever been in love before. Maybe he was, but it was so different from how other people would describe it that there’s not even a point in labelling it that. Maybe it’s just… admiration? Respect? He genuinely doesn’t know.
Is he allowed to call it love?
