Summary
After a late-night call pulls him back into a life he hasn’t touched in nearly a year, Harbor Patrol pilot Tommy Kinard learns that Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz are missing somewhere between Nashville and Los Angeles—no crash reports, no clear timeline, and no trail to follow.
With official answers slow to come and time slipping away, Tommy turns to tracker Colter Shaw, and the two leave Los Angeles to follow a fractured, inconsistent path across state lines as pressure builds and every hour without contact narrows the search.
As the investigation deepens, old history resurfaces—turning a search-and-rescue mission into a race against distance, silence, and what still might be saved.

Summary
Buck was already tired barely an hour into their outing, choosing to find a nice shaded spot to sit down while he lets Theo run around on his own (always within his sightline), chasing butterflies, birds, the occasional bee.
As it happens, of course he inevitably trips, falling onto the grass and landing hands first into some mud. Buck turns away for a second to grab the wet-naps out of the bag of supplies he brought—something he’s learned to always bring when on these Theo-outings—and then Theo was nowhere in sight.
One second Theo was pushing himself up to his feet again, and the next, gone.
— — — —
Or, the one where Buck loses Theo at the park, finds Theo again, and somehow he came attached with a Tommy Kinard on the side.
