The golden visage of the King burned itself into his mind the same way a roaring river gouged canyons into the earth. His head emptied and filled in pulsing waves of static and song, replaying, rewinding, etching, engraving the infinity of the universe into D3r's very being. He couldn't look away— wasn't allowed to look away.
He felt fragments of himself fracture, pieces sharp and raw from the very depths of his soul being caught and swept away by the unfathomable flood.

Summary
Turns out you can't just blow up a planet to make a space-faring species go extinct. Immediately after Samus' mission to ZDR, she finds out that some of the X Parasites survived, and there's no telling where they'll turn up next. And so, though her transformation into a metroid is far from fully halted, she sets out to do what she has always done: finish the mission.
But the X Parasites are not mindless monsters waiting to be gunned down by overwhelming firepower, and if they have their say, the situation will quickly turn into one that an arm cannon can't solve.
