“You smell wrong,” Wei Ying complains. This doesn’t stop him from scrubbing his face further against Lan Wangji’s chest, though, nuzzling up towards his shoulder—no, towards his armpit. Lan Wangji breathes out in a fond huff and runs a hand through Wei Ying’s hair, coincidentally pressing the area a bit closer to Wei Ying’s nose. Wei Ying is fractious and irritable—understandably—but Lan Wangji knows what he means.
Omega olfactory abilities are fundamentally different from the alpha equivalent. Even the same smell—such as, say, the same person—will smell different to an omega nose. During a heat—which, from the tea-and-lilies scent in the air, Wei Ying is either approaching or in—when the senses are all heightened so much, of course Lan Wangji’s scent will be disconcerting.
“Mn,” Lan Wangji says.
He leaves his tea on the table and uses his right hand to pinch Wei Ying’s nose shut.
