"Thank you," croaked Gil-Galad. Elros shrugged awkwardly.

“What’s the point in saving you if we don’t keep you alive?”

He suspected that those were words the twins had heard before.

    Summary

If a person cared to hear it, and if they angled their head just right, they could make out the distant calling of unhappy souls from almost anywhere in Mandos - their weeping, their screaming, their singing.

And then, just once, the crack of leather, a stifled cry.

The closer Fëanor came, the clearer the noise was: the snap of a cord through air, the echoes of blows raining down on skin, and faint whimpering, strikingly loud through silence. It quickened his heart and his feet - whatever was happening, it couldn’t be allowed to continue, he was certain of that.

Fëanor encounters a hurt young elf in the Halls, and intervenes to bring him to a place where he can heal.
