Summary
It starts, as so many things seem to, with Qifrey being absolutely miserable. It's not the ever present ache of his missing eye that used to follow him every waking second, nor the quiet underlying sense of dread that had never left him, cultivated by his own design to keep the silvertree roots at bay before the medics at the healing spire has cut him open and removed it with a precision no one thought possible. No, this was an entirely different sort of misery, one that was so mundane it bordered on comical in contrast to what he had endured.
Qifrey, quite plainly, is sick.
Or: Two years after getting rid of the silvertree seed, something new starts growing. -

Summary
There were three major social faux pas in witching society. Chief among these was the use or casting of forbidden magic, a egregious offense that would call for the caster's memories to be taken from them. Left to be discarded as nothing more than a boogeyman whispered between children. The second, much less offensive then the use of forbidden magic but almost crueler with its affliction would be the crime of being deemed unfit to cast. Whether it be the absense of a steady hand or the lack of perfect eye sight, it truly was a pitiful fate to fall into.
The last one, a social crime that Tetia has found herself in through no fault of her own, was being an apprentice without a master.
At night, Tetia would dream of a fluffy cloud that would cradle her. The cloud was warm and soft and enveloped her in its comfort like a blanket. In her dreams, instead of the threadbare smock she had she was wearing perfectly tailored dresses that swished like the robes the adult witches would wear. Her shoes would fit, whether they be the slippers princesses would wear or boots that wouldn’t be separating at the sole with each step.
One thing she was never able to dream away was hunger.

MANGA SPOILERS through the first time they meet Beldaruit. Technically takes place after Silver Eve, but doesn't really contain any major spoilers for that arc. Olruggio does not know Qifrey - beyond that head of hair, which curls around his ears like snowdrift, and that single gleaming eye, and the whispers of Beldaruit's Ward that follow the man everyhere he goes. No, Olruggio doesn't know him.

"You're… leaving?"
The anxiety had been gnawing at Olruggio since he opened to door to find Qifrey standing there holding a travel pack. It now rests at his friend's feet while Qifrey stands there clutching his own hands. He feels light-headed.
"Yes. I'd like to work as a travelling witch."
OR Qifrey leaves, and Olruggio is totally (not) fine with that.
