Friends? (BNHA x Reader)

Summary:

TEXTFIC!!!

ALSO: Content Warning/Trigger Warning--> There WILL contain topics such as suicide. This is in no way to romanticize topics like that, but rather to bring attention to them. The MC's motive is out of a "I don't deserve to live after what I just did" mindset.

-----

{L/N} couldn't take it after what she did to her parents. She killed them, she was a murderer. Of course, she was just an orphan on her own with a quirk she JUST discovered. She was honestly going to take a swan dive and call it quits, when she found herself being grabbed by a... scarf? A capture tool??

And after that, the teenager-- the little girl with a very heavy heart-- had a reason again, albeit a small one. She of course had to be turned in and she confessed to everything, but she wasn't sent to Tartarus or imprisoned. Instead, she was successfully adopted by that hero who saved her from herself, and {L/N} {Y/N} was under a heavy watch after that. Thank god for the Erasure Hero who could train her and keep her at bay.

Oh, how she had no idea how much her life would change after that.

Notes:

TRIGGER WARNING--> The MC attempts to take her own life in this prologue. This book will focus on heavy subjects sometimes. I promise that there will be a lot more light-hearted moments in this fanfiction.

HELP NEEDED: thus far I have TWO x female reader fics! I am looking for more diversity; while my fics 100% are inclusive in terms of ethnicity, I wish to include non-binary and male readers in future endeavors. Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

"Mama, I don't want to live here anymore. I don't want to!" Cried a young, {h/c} colored child. The little girl was no older than six years old, and presumed quirkless. After all, everyone else in her family got their quirks early. She was always the odd one out. "Please, Mama! I-I," the girl hiccuped, tears streaming down her face. "I don't like the mean kids!"

"Grow up, {Y/N}! They're only mean because you don't have a quirk. They'll get over it." Came the harsh hiss of her father, causing her to cower and cry even more. Her mother only sighed and petted her daughter's hair, shaking her head slightly. The soothing voice of her mother whispering things to calm her only made things worse.

        They never got over it.

The girl was 15 now, and she was being teased mercilessly for being quirkless every day. She honestly didn't know what would activate it, she tried so hard to find out what would! But it was... hopeless. No matter what she tried, she could never do it. There was absolutely no way. Anytime she would cry about it or mention it to her parents, her dad would only yell at her with that same harsh voice he always did, and her mom would try to calm her but only made things worse.

This day in particular, however, was the wrong day for that to happen. {Y/N} was sobbing profusely, locked up in her bathroom. She couldn't take it. She tried so hard to fit in, but that was impossible if you didn't have a quirk. She tried to stop crying when she heard a knock at the bathroom door, but she didn't get the chance to clean herself up when her mother walked in.

{Y/N} looked pitiful, crying on the ground like a toddler. The words of her peers had been getting to her more and more recently, and she just couldn't take it. She looked up at her mother with her {e/c} gaze filled with tears... and then her father came in. And then, {Y/N} was being shouted at. The girl found herself feeling more panicked and frenzied, and soon she cradled herself and began rocking herself back and forth.

Things began floating around her in the bathroom, just as her parents began to participate in a screaming match against each other. So honestly, they didn't notice anything until they were both pelted with objects upon objects. They both urged for her to stop, but she couldn't hear them. Her mind was racing, all she could hear was her heartbeat.

And then, she threw her parents through the wall with her mind. Head first, it was easy enough for them to survive it. The weirdest thing was, her mother's quirk was a simple one-- she could run super fast. It was just a speed-enhancing quirk. Her father could throw things really far. So {Y/N} was expected to have superspeed or superstrength or something of the variety. But right now?

She had a quirk that was the definition of 'psychic powers' it seemed. Because they could hear her thoughts while she was in this frenzied state, and she could hear how freaked out they were in her mind, but she didn't recognize it until she found her parents after they were slammed multiple times against the ground.

And then she began freaking out.

"I did this. I killed my parents. Look at the blood. Look at the- oh no. I'm a murderer, I'm a villain. They didn't deserve this. I'm going to jail. I could've stopped I-at this point, she couldn't get herself to calm down. She wasn't even excited that she had a quirk, she was terrified of herself. Here her parents were, a bloodied mess on the ground. She was glad that the house was a mess, so maybe she could get away with--

"Am I trying to see how I can get away with this?" She thought. {Y/N} couldn't believe herself. She was no better than a villain and she knew it. So, she planned to take herself out before she could hurt anyone else. She made a run for it, quickly leaving the house her parents had owned and crying on the way. There was no way she'd get out of it. She was lucky that it was the beginning of the evening, so most people had gone indoors for the day unless they were coming home from their jobs or something like that.

Unfortunately for her, a running and crying girl was enough to catch Eraser Head's attention. He was on patrol, simple enough, right? But this civilian child was enough to catch his attention. So, he began following her from behind, not that she knew. He followed her as she entered a building-- why was a Middle School unlocked at this hour? This was how villains attacked children! It was so simple for them to-- he exhaled and let his rage leave him as he entered and continued to follow her.

He trailed behind her as she began to run up flights of stairs. To be honest, he was impressed she wasn't getting winded yet. Why was this child so upset, and why was she heading to--

That's when it clicked for him. That's when he sped up.

Up on the rooftop, {Y/N} was about to take her shoes off. She was ready to escape her crimes in the only way she knew how, as a guilty child. But, she was scared and cornered. Surely she wasn't a bad person? She was already upset as it was... No. There's no turning back. She took her shoes off and climbed over the barrier, standing on the ledge-- and then she felt something grab her.

Was this a scarf? Whatever it was, she was being pulled back and she heard a voice start to speak to her. Terror coursed through her-- he was a hero he was a hero he was a--

        "What if he knows."

"He's here to turn you in."

"You'll be punished for your crimes."

"What were you thinking?! I don't know what's going on, but breaking and entering-- coming to a school rooftop to jump off?! You are just a child!" His worried voice, which was one that sounded like he didn't emote too often, made her break down into sobs.

"Mister Hero, I'm a murderer. I-I'm a lowlife, I'm no better than a villain I-- I don't deserve to live after what I've done." She didn't see the hero look surprised, but she could hear what he was thinking.

"You're... just a child. How could you--"

"My quirk showed itself. Ten years later than it should've. I-I was scared, father was yelling at me and Mama was trying to comfort me and they started fighting and and--" Small things began to float again, but they all fell when this man used his quirk on her. "I hurt them, Mister Hero. I-I couldn't stop, and I slammed them around like puppets. A-And now my head hurts so much. I could hear their thoughts, but it couldn't stop me."

The Erasure Hero before her was so surprised with her, but now he was thinking. He kept his eyes trained on her so she couldn't use her quirk-- or maybe in this case, quirks? He had to mull it over, it just sounded like she had some sort of Telekinesis and Telepathy.

"I'm going to have to turn you in, do you have any living relativ--"

"I don't. My grandparents died before I was even thought of. My mother was an only child and my dad's brother was killed when I was two-- he was stepped on by this monster named Garvey." Apparently, the name 'Garvey' really resonated with this man {Y/N} didn't know, and while she was hiccuping from crying and wiping the tears out of her eyes, she saw his jaw clench up.

"Trust me." Came his simple reply. And so? {Y/N} did.

It was a long process, being in the police station. 'Mister Hero' went in first and began to tell them everything he knew, but he insisted on something in there and she had no idea what it was. Then, {Y/N} was approached for questioning. The girl had to tell them everything that happened, mentioning how her quirk had surfaced so suddenly and so late and how she didn't mean to kill them. She explained how she wanted to jump off the roof of her Middle School to punish herself, and the man questioning her looked terrified at how she said she didn't deserve to live if she killed someone.

She was so young, and she already had a body count of two. It was so hard for her to process, and she was honestly expecting to go to Tartarus.

        But she didn't.

Instead, she was left in that room alone for a few hours while the authorities made some phone-calls and spoke more to Eraser Head. Some policemen went to her house to survey the carnage, and honestly {Y/N} passed out in the chair she was sitting in, her head resting on her arms on the table in front of her.

A few hours later, someone woke her. It was a kind-looking man, and he gave her a few options.

"We can do one of two things. We can rehouse you with someone who can help you handle your quirk, or we can keep you in Tartarus for two counts of Manslaughter as well as breaking and entering. If we rehome you, we might have to make you a new identity, and it'll be kept hidden from the news." Why was this being offered? What did that hero say...?

{Y/N} drowsily cleared her throat, a bit drained from everything that's happened in such a short time period. A bit? No, she was very drained. This was a load of mental carnage and she couldn't take it. But she thought it over and she replied.

"Can I... be rehomed? I still don't think I deserve to live. I want to die, for what I've done, but... I don't want to go to such a dreadful place such as that." She watched as the policeman nodded and then watched as he left the room and came back with that hero from before, as well as one other person she didn't recognize.

"This here is the Erasure Hero--"

"I'm Aizawa Shouta. You may call me Shouta, {Y/N}." He sounded... apathetic. But there was an edge that broke the apathy, and that was a certain gentleness she wasn't expecting to see from him.

"Right." The man she didn't recognize spoke. "Anyways, he will be looking after you. He has a few papers to sign, and it'll be quite the process to give you a new identity, but he has decided to adopt you."

To be honest, she felt a bit of bile rise in her throat. There were so many good kids without parents in the system. So many kids that deserved to be taken care of that were stuck in orphanages or foster homes and-- what? In a mere matter of hours she was already being adopted? But she simply clenched her teeth and nodded.

After all, {Y/N} felt safe with this stranger.

That's when a paper was slid her way, it seemed to be mostly filled out.

(A/N: For the purposes of this story, a few things will be selected by me.)

NAME: Aizawa {Y/N}

GENDER: Female

AGE: 15

HAIR COLOR: {h/c}

EYE COLOR: {e/c}

BIRTHDAY: 22 DEC

HEIGHT: 165 cm

LEGAL GUARDIAN: AIZAWA SHOUTA

QUIRK: UNNAMED PSYCHIC QUIRK, EMITTER-CLASS

QUIRK DRAWBACKS: HEADACHES, ???

SIGNATURE: _______________

{Y/N} stared at this with an incredulous look on her face. So, she was going to change her last name, he was going to be her new father-figure, and this would all be forgiven? What about her parents' coworkers? Their friends? Wouldn't anyone worry?! Her teachers, her-- The man that was by Shouta and the nice policeman began to speak.

"As soon as you sign that, {Y/N}, you don't have to worry about ever existing in the past. The only people that will know are the ones who work here, and Eraser Head, nobody will know your true identity unless you tell them, thanks to my quirk."

And with that, {Y/N} signed the paper-- and soon everyone forgot about her. She... didn't know how to feel about that. Imagine being yourself one morning, and the next you're an entirely different person, but still... yourself. This was all way too fast for her. As she felt her nervousness start to act up, the pen she used to sign it started floating-- and immediately fell back down as Shouta looked at her.

"It's my quirk. I can erase anyone's quirk by looking at them. I will help you learn how to control your quirk, {Y/N}."

It was all history from there. Shouta was actually pretty good at "being a dad," if you could call it that. He was around quite commonly since summer break began-- in the day, anyways, when he wasn't sleeping. At night, he was usually out patrolling or training-- but it worked out, because {Y/N} slept well at nights. A few hours in the early morning and a few hours in the later afternoon was all that was needed for them to learn each others' boundaries and bond.

Soon enough, he got her a phone over the year so they could stay in contact. Apparently, he was a teacher at Yuuei-- or as {Y/N} knew it, UA-- High School. It was discussed that {Y/N} would be privately homeschooled by Shouta when he came home for about two hours every night, meaning it was up to her to keep her studies up during the day.

In all honesty, she didn't mind. Maybe if she was lucky, she could go with him sometime! She could even use UA's training facilities! Over those 10 months, she had gotten better at handling her telekinetic powers, but the telepathy was a bit overwhelming. She could hear so many thoughts at once.

Maybe she could become a hero with her quirk(s)? ...Nah.

After the UA entrance exam about ten months after her predicament, school had started, and {Y/N}'s adoptive parent was off to work every day. After he came home that day, however, she found herself with a notification on her phone.

22:46

[AcidChick]: Kaminari-kun! It's Ashido! Kirishima gave me your number.

[Y/N]: i think "kirishima" gave you the wrong number

sorry about that

i'm aizawa [y/n].

you can call me aizawa-san i suppose

[Y/N] changed AcidChick's nickname to "Ashido"

[Ashido]: No way.

My teacher is--

Aizawa-sensei!!!

I didn't know he had a daughter!!!

Ashido changed [Y/N]'s nickname to "Babyzawa"

{Y/N} didn't have the heart to tell this stranger that she wasn't his daughter. Honestly...? She felt like it was kind of a compliment to be called that.
