Work Text:
Pucca took a deep breath as she looked into the full-length mirror that was before her; she had the skirt of her red dress clinched in her hand as she looked over herself trying to see if the outfit she wore was to her liking.
The dress was a simple lacy, short-sleeved dress nothing over the top, and on her feet were a pair of brown ankle boots that complimented the little brown belt that was wrapped around the waist of the dress.
She looked at herself up and down twirling every now and then looking at everything she wore, she blamed it on the butterflies in her stomach for the reason she kept looking herself up and down.
"Just wear something simple, that you feel comfortable in," Ching's voice rang in her ears as the memory of her best friend trying to help her earlier this morning came to mind.
Ching had left only a few moments ago having helped Pucca pick out the items she was now wearing. She had stuck around to make sure Pucca didn't change once again since Ching believed that what Pucca had on now was perfect.
Pucca hadn't disagreed with Ching that the dress was pretty but everything else she had tried on before had seemed pretty at the time to only for Pucca to find every little thing wrong with it when she looked in the mirror.
She let a sigh leave her as she turned her head away from the mirror only to see the mess that she had caused with a little help from Ching. Clothes were scattered all around her room showing signs that the dress she wore now wasn't the first thing she had tried on. There were dresses, skirts, shirts, and pants hanging in weird places as well as laying on the ground then there were her shoes that were stuck in odd places like one half of a pair of flats that were currently stuck in her ceiling fan.
Now Pucca didn't hate any of the clothes she had tried on, in fact, she loved all the clothes that she had, of course, she had her favorites but at the moment even those didn't seem right.
"This has to be perfect," Pucca thought to herself with a huff as she looked back at the mirror. "Everything has to be perfect," She thought with determination as she reached up and placed a hand against her cheek.
She continued to look at herself up and down dark eyes following every movement that the skirt of the dress made as she looked herself over. It didn't take long for Pucca to notice that something was missing from the outfit, something had been missing from every outfit she had tried on but she had no clue what it was. She knew that she needed to figure it out fast or she was going to be late.
She could hear the clock on her wall ticking showing the seconds were passing by faster and faster which only made her nerves more frazzled.
She let a huff leave her as she pressed her forehead against the cool glass of the mirror as nothing came to mind about what could be missing from her attire.
As she looked into her own eyes she felt something spark as it finally hit her what was missing from every outfit she had tried on and what was missing from her outfit now.
With speed like no other Pucca quickly ran around her room once again trying to find what she needed before heading back to the mirror. With the soft pink lipgloss that Ching had made for her, she carefully placed it on her lips before letting a soft smile grace them.
Pucca hadn't been wearing makeup for very long but whenever she did she always felt a little different for reasons unknown. It wasn't that Pucca felt like she needed makeup whatsoever she just found herself enjoying it more and more every time she used it; as she looked in the mirror she now understood why she felt the lipgloss had been missing the slight red it gave to her lips complimented her dress perfectly.
As she smiled at herself in the mirror once again she noticed the clock as well and saw that the time for Garu to leave had grown even closer.
Upon seeing this Pucca gasped and let the closed lipgloss fall to the floor of her room and without another thought, she took off down the stairs of her room, she quickly stopped to hug her Uncles who were working in the kitchen before running through the dining area as fast as she could. As she exited the restaurant she could hear the excited chime of everyone wishing her good look as she ran.
Pucca blushed at hearing this but smiled noting how everyone was so supportive of her as she raced to see the man she loved.
As she picked up her speed she could hear other villagers around her wishing her good luck and cooing about how sweet this all was once she had somewhat passed them. Pucca felt about running passed them without saying "Hello" but she hoped that they all understood why she couldn't. This was the day that Garu had taken his vow of silence and it was also the day Pucca had taken it with him so he wouldn't be alone. Now after so many years the vow of silence would finally end and Pucca wanted to be the first person to speak with Garu after all this time.
These thoughts only made her run faster kicking up dust as she went, she ignored Ring Ring as the rich girl tried to get her way which only caused Pucca to push her to the side.
Pucca ran faster and faster as she counted the minutes in her head, her eyes stayed focused in front of her as she ran past the flower field meaning she was only a few more minutes from Garu's home.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she saw Garu's home, coming into her line of sight, she could see that Garu wasn't outside meaning hopefully he was inside getting ready to leave.
Pucca tried not to think about the possibility that he could have already left as she turned the corner on the dirt path and made her way through gap between the wooden gate and up the steps of Garu's home.
She barely even allowed herself time to breathe as she reached up and knocked on his door hoping that Garu would answer.
She stood there for what felt like an eternity staring at the white screen with worried eyes but she felt air catch in her throat as the sounds of footsteps came from the other side and before long the door opened to reveal the man she loved. For a moment Pucca looked up at him with wide eyes as he looked down at her with his own wide eyes. For the moment neither side a word even though the time had passed that Garu was finally allowed to speak.
Pucca didn't know what to say or do as they both stood there looking at one another both waiting to see what would happen, all the things she had wanted to say to Garu suddenly left her mind and she was left with nothing but the butterflies in her stomach fluttering around.
"H-Hi..." Pucca stuttered out and tried not to wince as she mentally slapped herself for the simple word. All the things she had wanted to say and "Hi" was the only thing she could manage. Unknown to Pucca that simple two-letter word was all that needed to be said to break the tension between the two.
"Hi... " Garu said back just as quietly as the woman in front of him a smile on his face as Pucca's eyes seemed to widen even more before she relaxed and gave him her own smile.
Both smiled at one another as Garu motioned for her to come inside which Pucca gladly did, both had known for many years that they didn't need words to describe their love but it was nice to hear one another's voice again after all these years.
