Chapter Text

The world was not supposed to have these side effects, their soul wasn't supposed to fracture when they died. How was Grian supposed to know this would happen, why did everyone blame him? He wasn’t the only one who saw the creeper, how was he supposed to know that the creeper would explode and kill Sacr? So why were they all yelling at him? His wings trembled as he read and re-read the message of Scar’s death, waiting with the group for the man to make his way back to them from spawn.

“That was a low blow G, I can't believe you would do something like this.” Bdubs snarked at Grian, his tone said he was joking but his body language said he was disappointed and annoyed. The scarlet macaw hybrid drew his wings close to his body, making his impressive 28 foot wingspan look like it might have been a small 16 foot span.

“I didn't mean for him to die. I just didn’t think.” Grian’s voice was small as he spoke, his eyes wide and still staring at the explosion crater. He watched as the others built a grave as a joke and put all of Scar’s stuff in a chest for him numbly.

“Well you can have fun explaining that to him, because he’s back.” Tango spoke up, a slight edge to his voice but the joking lit covered it well. Grian looked over to the hill and saw Scar jogging back to them, he looked fine, hell he looked normal. So as he got closer why was Grian growing uneasy.

“Man.” Scar huffed as he got to the group, slightly winded and out of breath.

“Scar, I am so sorry.” Grian had pulled up his shield as he said it, he felt horrible and everyone was so hostile right now. Hiding behind his shield he watched as Scar turned his attention to him.

“What are you peeping about behind there G?” his eyes held a glint that made Grian want to fly away and hide.

“I was the one who led the creeper up here to you. I, uhh, actually come over here I, um, wanna talk to you alone.” the macaw hybrid squeaked out, watching as an understanding came over Scar’s face

“Sure G.” Scar followed the smaller man until they were out of earshot then waited for the smaller to start talking

“I am so, so, so sorry Scar, I didn’t think it would explode like that, or kill you, and I really would like to make it up to you.” Grian sucked in a breath after his nervous apology, peering up at Scar’s face trying to gauge his reaction.

“What would you do to make up for it?” Scar asked a sinister glint in his eyes as he watched the smaller man.

“Anything, Scar, I feel horrible.” Grian wanted to swallow the words back down as soon as they came out of his mouth when a grin creeped onto Scar’s face.

“Even your first life?” Scar leaned closer, getting in Grian’s space as he asked. The small hybrid’s breath hitched in fear, Scar couldn't kill him, he was only on his second life.

“What?” the squeak made Scar back off with a breathless chuckle

“I probably should have worded that better. I don't want to kill you G, we’re friends. No, I meant that until you lost your first life, you would work for me. You do anything I say you have to do and you stick with me.” Scar held out his hand to Grian for him to shake on it, to seal the deal. With a hesitant hand Grian reached forward, pausing just before he grabbed scar’s hand.

“And it's just that, I won't kill anyone. I just have to do as you say?” Grian asked softly not looking up at Scar’s face, eyes fixed on the small gap between their hands, flinching back slightly as Scar grabbed it.

“Yup! great to have you on the team G. now we have to tell the others, but I want you to tell them that this was your idea.” Scar clapped a hand on the shorter’s shoulder, grinning ear to ear.

“Why?” Grian was confused, why does he need to say he came up with this? Surely the others wouldn’t care who came up with it or not. So why was Scar making him say it?

“Because G, I have forgiven you, but if I say I came up with this idea. Well, they are going to think that you aren’t really sorry, you want them to forgive you too don't you?” Scar leaned in closer his eyes on the rest of the group a little bit away. Grian nodding slightly.

“But wouldn’t it be the same as me saying I agreed?” Grian felt uneasy about the whole thing, but the guilt kept him from saying anything or just walking away.

“Grian, think of this as your first order, your first step in making it up to me.” Scar sounded annoyed, making Grian want to cringe away. Memories of a darker life trying to bubble up. Nodding numbing and putting a smile on his face that felt too fake to convince anyone. Walking back up to the group, Scar leading the way and gesturing to him as they got close enough for everyone to hear.

“Hey guys, I, um, well, Scar has forgiven me, but I had the idea of working for him until I lose my first life.” Grian sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, all the attention on him.

“Yup! now then G, off to the desert. We shall control the sand, haha!” The slightly unhinged laugh made Grian’s wings puff up but he followed after Scar and climbed on top of the llama that was being led by Scar when gestured to.

“So what’s the plan, Scar?” the winged hybrid couldn't see his face but he could tell something was off, he desperately hoped that Scar was ok.

“Well G, first we are off to the desert, we shall rule the world with the sand.” Scar kept walking, Grian forced to follow according to their deal.
