Pretty Boy Got Secrets

Summary:

It wasn’t that Spencer was trying to keep secrets per say, but if they didn’t ask then why say. They were the best profilers in the FBI and if they couldn’t see his ring and put together he was married then why did he need to tell them. Sure he was a mutant and had transfer from the mutant unit, but if they didn’t ask then who was he to put the pieces together. It was the same for most things in his life; brothers, powers, and personality. But apparently these were things you are supposed to tell friends.

Notes:

So I fell down a rabbit hole and read literally every Remy/Spencer fic and for my 30th fic ever published online I wanted it to be something special.

I did a shit ton of research for this fic in general but specifically about for Remy’s accent and how he speaks it a little off, but I honestly tried.

This will be a series of one shots in the same universe of the BAU finding out about Spencer secrets so stay tuned.

Work Text:

Pretty Boy Got Secrets

Part 1: The Mutation

When Spencer Reid transferred into BAU the team never asked many questions unless about his age and credibility, but when Gideon vouch for the boy most keep their opinions behind closed doors. And once Gideon retires not many know much about the strange young man.

But as often life has it secrets come to light. The team was sent to work on a case in Ohio seemingly like a regular day with 2 girls dead and one missing (blonde haired blue eyed beauties), but the twist was the unsub was definitely a mutant. They were taken from their rooms at the dead of night only a burned handprint left behind.

Hotch had lead them into the conference room where the Sheriff was waiting. The older man scanned them each before landing on Spencer eyes lite up. At the same moment Spencer face spilt into a wide grin and before Hotch could introduce the team Reid started, “James how are you?”

The older man’s face fell into a soft smile, “Reid as I ever. I’ll be doing a lot better when you solve this case, Boy Genius.”

Derek looked between the two men, “You two know each other.”

Sheriff Halfway nodded, “We worked on the MBAU team together before I retired here and Reid transferred over to your team.”

Emily pursed her lips, “The MBCU?”

Spencer nodded, “The Mutants Behavioural Analysis Unit. It was formed in 1996 to help integrate mutants into the FBI to work on mutant cases without perpetuating human on mutant violence.”

The older man nodded, “The only problem is it perpetuates mutant on mutant violence and is basically unheard of. That’s why we were so happy to see Spencer transferred to a widely known unit. Much thanks to Gideon for that.”

Spencer nodded, “So what can you tell us about the case.”

The man turned towards the board that was set up behind him and for the first time they could see the tail that swayed after him, “The perp seems to have something out for young blonde women.”

Spencer lend back against a desk while Rossi stepped forward scanning the board, “Young blonde haired blued eyed pretty girls from well off families it looks like. Maybe he has it out for those he views as perfect.”

Spencer nodded, “Maybe he proceeds  it as an offence because he is a mutant and perhaps grew up poor.”

Derek nodded, “Maybe a young blonde girl rejected him because of him being a mutant?”

Hotch nodded, “Seems like a place to start. Reid I want you and Rossi to head down to the morgue get a good look at these girls. Derek head to the dump sites with Emily while JJ and I interview the families. Meet back here when we’re done.”

Spencer grabbed Hotch’s arm, “Be careful when mentioning the unsub being a mutant.”

Hotch nodded looking a the young man sharply, “We’ll talk later.”

***

Later was a week and a half later after the case was solved and two more girls had lost their lives. The unsub choosing death by cop over his chances at prison.

On the plane while the team was watching Reid closely, he was seemingly stuck in his own head. Lost rolling over the facts of the case time and time again. The man was a mutant who worked in security using his place in the company to get into the houses of his victims as he slowly burned alive from the inside as his mutation turned on him. All triggered by a medication a well off blonde haired blue eyed pretty doctor had given him to treat his firey mutation.

Derek watched as the man’s eyes scrunched up in frustration, “What’s wrong Pretty Boy?”

The smaller man sighed before dragging his eyes to the other man’s, “It’s just so fucked up.”

The team taken back by the young agent’s language gasped lowly. Derek blinking, “What do you mean?”

Reid shook his head, “Mutant violence, these killings, just all of it. If that doctor hadn’t dehumanised him maybe he wouldn’t have been triggered to kill those women.”

Rossi eyed the man with a soft kindness in his eyes, “Reid there was nothing any of us could have done. Perhaps something else would have set him off next, but we know he will never hurt someone again.”

Reid rolled his eyes, “Is that good enough?”

JJ settled in beside the young doctor, “Is this about how you know Sheriff Halfway?”

Reid sighed again clearly exhausted by the whole thing, “I guess. It was hard enough joining the FBI, but when we joined the MBAU we thought we would be doing some good, but all they wanted us to do was dehumanise other mutants and perpetuate anti-mutant government propaganda.”

Morgan had his head rubbing his chin clearly in thought, “So you had to be a mutant to work in the MBAU right? Like the good Sheriff?”

Spencer nodded, “That’s correct.”

Morgan had a slight grin and a mischievous look in his eyes, “And you worked on this team?”

Spencer liked confused, “Also correct, but I don’t see what that has to do with the dehumanisation of mutants by doctors.”

The other seemed to catch on to Derek’s ply and Emily asked softly, “Spence are you a mutant?”

Spencer looked them with wide eyes, “Of course wasn’t that obvious?”

Rossi had a grin, “Knew there was something that made you so smart kid.”

Spencer shook his head, “What? My intelligence has nothing to do with my mutant abilities.”

Emily snorted, “Of course not.”

As JJ leaned forward towards the man, “So what is your ability?”

Spencer let out a tiny smirk, “Like others is my family I have the ability to control energy. I, in particular, can control electrical. Then I, of course, have my physical mutations.”

Hotch had the smallest of grins, “Is that why you avoid technology?”

Spencer shrugged, “Partly, I’m either really good with it or fry it so I generally tend to stay away from it.”

Derek was full on grinning now, “What else can you do with it?”

“I can create energy shields, energy bolts, and basically tase people,” Spencer paused, “Oh and I can teleport using electrical lines.”

Rossi had one leg over the other leaned back, “You mentioned physical?”

Spencer blushed brightly, “My eyes and something else that doesn’t really effect any of us.”

The group talked lightly for the rest of the time while both Spencer and Derek went silent. Finally when the plane landed and Spencer was halfway to his car did Derek call out, “Hey you mentioned family?”

Spencer smirked over his shoulder as he swung into his car, “Oh I have two brothers.”

Part 2: Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum aka the brothers

After Spencer confession of having brothers he avoided ever question Derek might have had about them.

It wasn’t until a few months later that Derek’s unfulfilled questions came to a head.

While Spencer was up for his third cup of coffee of the day when his cell phone dings repeatedly. Derek from his desk slowly turns to stare at it before making eye contact with JJ and Emily a mischievous smile growing across his face.

Emily nods towards it a similar smile on her face while JJ rolls her eyes at the twosomes antics although just as interested. Derek pulls the phone over to him eyeing Spencer causally and pulling up the messages.

[12:08pm] from Tweedle Dum: Hey

[12:10pm]  from Tweedle Dum: Spence?

[12:11pm] Tweedle Dum: Assface I need to talk to you

[12:12pm] Tweedle Dum: Fine be that way I’ll tell Scotty you’re an assmunch or about that time with his glasses

[12:14pm] Tweedle Dum: Wow playing that way are we fucker

[12:15pm] Tweedle Dum: Def telling him now

[12:15pm] Tweedle Dee: What is this Alex is telling me about you breaking my glasses

[12:16pm] Tweedle Dee: Aren’t you supposed to be the good brother… I’m disappointed

[12:16pm] Tweedle Dee: Just talk to him he is driving me nuts

[12:15pm] Tweedle Dum: I told him, Bitch. Now talk to meeeeee. I miss you spiny-winy.

As the last message comes in Spencer makes his way back over to his desk cup of coffee cradled to his chest. They others just have odd expressions because he eyes him wearily, “What is something on my face?”

Derek carefully puts the phone in his pocket messages still buzzing in, “No nothing like that,” he winced slightly, “Just wondering if you could do a few files for me.”

Spencer squinted his eyes at the man, “What do I get out of it?”

Derek felt the tension drain from him, “If the team goes out tonight I’ll pay for you?”

Spencer shrugged pulling the files off Derek’s desk, “Sure.”

Derek nodded to the girls all of them sharing a slight look of mischief as he carefully pulled out the phone typing out a message to the two numbers.

[12:18pm] Spencer: I’m at work but maybe we could talk later? Maybe meet at Command Post Sports Bar? Around 7ish?

[12:19pm] Tweedle Dum: You’re lucky we are in town Spin, but you’re paying for my misery

Derek quickly deleted the messages about meeting after work and waited for Spencer to get up before slipping his phone back on his desk. He then shared a wink with the girls.

***

Derek roped Hotch, Rossi, and the girls into coming all while keeping it under wraps from Spencer what he had done.

The team had been sitting around a round of drinks in when Derek spots two men walk in one only the slightest bit taller but more muscular. What really caught Derek’s eye was the slightly shorter man was wearing sun glasses.

He snorted pointing over his shoulder, “What a tool. I mean come on who wears sunglasses inside?”

Spencer’s head shot up and he gasped upon seeing the two men. Who if the team had any sense could see were coming their way.

The blonde man rolled his eyes while the man with the ruby glasses gave a bare thread smile, “Apparently the tool one of you invited here tonight.”

Spencer snorted before standing and pulling the two men into a hug. He pulled back a smile on his face, “These are my brothers, Alex and Scott.”

Alex then without prompt popped Spencer in the back of the head causing the team to stare wide eyed a the two, “That’s for ignoring my messages.”

Spencer only rolled his eyes taking his seat again, “Oh and what was yours problem? Some poor girl reject you again?”

Just as Alex was about to spit out something Scott gave them both a stern look, “Enough boys.”

At the same time the two rolled their eyes and in matching tones answered together, “Yes Dad”.

Derek cleared his throat, “So how did you know Spencer didn’t invite you?”

Alex swinging into a chair snorted, “Spencer inviting us to a bar, not likely, plus you don’t write like a fucking professor.”

Spencer spat back, “Oh fuck you.”

Garcia gasped, “Boy Wonder!”

Scott smiled amused as the rest of the team gave Spencer an odd look, “They bring out the best and the worst in each other.”

JJ gave a small smile, “So what do you do for work?”

Everyone seemed to settle back as the conversation took a more mundane turn, Scott eyed them from behind his glasses, “I’m a teacher at a private school.”

Alex snorted, “And he looks like it too.”

JJ amused added, “I can definitely see the resemblance between the two.”

Spencer gave them a pointed look, “There is nothing wrong with my sweater vests.”

Rossi picking on the young agent, “Well there isn’t good about them either.”

Alex in a very Reid like gesture throw his hands up, “That’s what I have been saying for years! And even worse the cuffed pants its like he wants to scream queer professor.”

Spencer smacked his brothers arm, “There isn’t nothing about my outfit that says my sexual orientation.”

Garcia giggled put her hand up to her mouth, “Keep telling yourself that sweetie.”

Emily pulled the conversation back into every day topics and by the end of the night even Hotch was laughing from the stories the brothers shared about the young agent. The whole of them were happy to see the young man act his age and less tense.

At the end of the night while everyone was packing up to go home the team caught one least piece of information that forced them to revaluate how well they knew Spencer.

As Spencer was hugging Scott before he headed out Alex teased, “We should have you’re hubby back to you soon.”

Spencer gave his brother a soft smile, “Back in one piece?”

Alex held Spencer at arms length a soft look to his eyes that spoke of the love he had for his brother and for the first time that night said seriously, “We will always do our best to get him back to you safe and sound. You’re one of the best of us,” he breaking the seriousness teased, “and Gambo aren’t too bad either I guess.”

Spencer sighed pulled back eying them both, “I love you both tell me when you get back.”

The brothers nodded and just as they reached the front door Alex turned around flipping the youngest Summers brother off.

It was JJ that caught Spencer this time with the question, “You’re married?”

Spencer turned around flashing the ring on his finger a smirk on his face before winking heading out.

Part 3: The Hubby

Derek grabbed Spencer the next day when they were at work, “So when are we going to meet this hubby of yours?”

Spencer gave him an amused look, “Would you like to meet him?”

Rossi rolled his eyes, “I’m only getting old here.”

Hotch even had amusement in his eyes as the others bothered the young agent. It was Garcia who gave him puppy eyes that made him give in.

Spencer held up his heads and sighed, “You can meet him. I’ll set up something at a restaurant for next week.”

Garcia grinned squealing grabbing him as the rest of the team shared a happy look finally getting more insight into Spencer life.

The next week, Spencer came to them awkwardly, “I made the reservations Morton’s for Friday.”

JJ asked almost bashfully, “Could I bring Will?”

Spencer nodded, “Families are invited of course.”

***

When Spencer walked in wearing sun glasses with a man his equal height but build with slightly wider shoulders dressed nicely while still wearing a dark brown trench coat and a fedora they weren’t sure what to expect. But Will being the first one to react wasn’t it.

The southern man broke out in a tense smirk, “Well if it isn’t Le Diablo Blanc.”

The man speaking for the first time as he pulled out Spencer’s chair for him had a glint of mischief in his expression, “Ol’ Willy La Montagne if Remy ever.”

Will pulled the man into a hug messing up his hair affectionately saying, “What’s a good for nothin’ thief like you doing up here?”

“Remy done refined for his chêre, Penny ,” the man said with a soft grin looking at Spencer.

JJ looked between the two men as they both took their seats, “You two know each other.”

Remy nodded, “Oui, Ol' Remy knew Willy’s Pa. He was mighty nice to a’ swamp rat like Remy.”

Spencer smiled softly taking the man’s hand running his fingers over Remy’s knuckles gently. Derek watched the two men carefully seeing the clear signs of their love but still feeling the need to ask, “How’d you two meet?”

Spencer grinned elbowing the man beside him gently, “When I was in college Remy here saved me from some thugs.”

Remy had a soft grin on his face on his face, “Penny, got jumped by some big boys and Remy was passing and couldn’t help but think to himself, ‘Oh, now that jus' ain't right at all!’ and had to stop and help.”

Spencer nodded, “After that we were thick as thieves ironically.”

Derek asked with a grin, “He know about all the trouble you got in in Vegas?”

Spencer rolled his eyes playfully, “What he won’t tell you is he is half the reason we are banned from half the casinos in Vegas. The damn cheater.”

Remy put his hand over his heart dramatically, “But Penny the other half of the reason. Counting the’ cards!”

The team had amusement bubble up as the men picked on each other lovely telling more of their story. When a lull in the story came Garcia grinning wildly at the two men asked, “So why you wearing the shades, Boy Wonder?”

Spencer shared a look with Remy before the pair slide off their glasses. The team for the first time saw Spencer’s eyes; a tv fuzz look that was slightly off putting and Remy’s red and black which clearly had earned him his devilish name.

Remy grinned when the Garcia bite her lip and said, “Ow sexy boys.”

He then winked and responded back, “Hoo-wee, you're a feisty one!"

She giggled blushing at the man. Derek smiled relaxing as he saw how gently the other man treated his best friend and found himself asking, “So how long have you guys been married?”

Remy grinned pressing a kiss to Spencer hand, “Penny and I got married when he was 19.”

Spencer nodded, “Seven years, four months, 4 days, and 52 minutes.”

JJ teased, “No seconds?”

Spencer tilted his head confused, “No because they would no longer be accurate.”

The two settled in as the team asked a few more question and the group ordered. The team couldn’t help but notice the two men were always touching and Spencer for the first time seemed to full relax.

Rossi asked curiously, “So what is your mutation Remy?”

Remy gave him a playful scandalised look, “You can’t ask a little Cajun that on the first date.”

Spencer rolled his eyes groaning, “Remy.”

Emily giggled at the two’s antics a couple of glasses of wine in. Remy winked at her before grinning at Rossi, “Remy joking. I make things go boom.”

Emily looked between them both a question in her eyes, “You make bombs?”

Spencer smiled, “Remy has control of kinetic energy so he can add kinetic energy to objects to make them explode.”

Hotch who hadn’t said much drew Remy’s attention when he offered the man a bland smile. Remy only smirked and asked, “Ey old man, why you always so grumpy?"

The others sputtered into laughter as Hotch’s face fell into shook before asking, “Just wondering what you do for work?”

Remy gave him a slight smile something that held just a bit of danger, “You don't wanna know how I keep myself busy, but I can tell you I help out at Scotty’s school with art history. Remy isn’t as dumb as he looks.”

Spencer elbowed the man lightly again, “Behave.”

Remy gasped, “I, never!”

The others grinned at the couple pulling at more stories from them both. Remy was the first to notice that Spencer was slowly imputing less into the conversation and turned to him asking, “Ça va, Penny?”

Spencer nodded laying his head on Remy’s shoulder, “Glad to see you all getting along.”

Remy smiled kissing the top of his husband’s head turning to the team, “Remy think me and Penny going to head out.”

The timing was damn near perfect because just as the man finished his statement the bill was delivered. He smiled slipping a card to cover it. He stood gathering up their things by time the card had been returned he and Spencer both had said almost finished their goodbyes.

Before they turned to leave Remy paused before carefully saying, “ I like you, feds, you're alright. Just keep Remy’s beau safe would you?”

The team looked over them with kind eyes learning so much more about their relationship in that mere second knowing it was all they would ever need. Hotch stepped forward a smile on his features, “We will try our damn best.”

Remy smiled nodding as he carefully guided the smaller man out of the restaurant. Feeling confident they knew their friend at least better than most. Although one thing was still left on their minds; what other secrets did Spencer Reid have?
