Chapter Text
Izuku and Katsuki sat next to each other, hours after dinner and few into the night. They’d been helping their mothers with the cooking, so it had been a bit sloppy. (“It was the best damn thing you’ve ever eaten!” Katsuki had yelled. (Although Izuku’s pretty sure he felt a hair sitting at the back of his throat. Yuck.)) He had been trying to ignore it, it wasn’t bothering him for the most part, that is, until he started coughing up a lung.
In a panicked state Aunty Mitsuki had rushed for some water to help him wash it down. Though now, far past their bedtime, he still had the phantom feeling of the disgusting thing.
The two just couldn’t sleep! No matter how hard they tried! But you can’t blame them when a new hero debuted and now it was all they could talk about.
“I’m just saying Kacchan that your wrong! If they did that then the villain could grab them and win!”
“No! Deku! The hero should jump and bring his hands down, grabbing the villain while he’s falling and melting the metal!”
“He can’t melt anything if he misses, Kacchan. Then he could get a head injury! It’s better if he grabs something and throws it at the villains head to knock the villain out!” Izuku whines.
Now, Katsuki knows when he’s lost. But, he’s also a stubborn brat who would never admit it. So, he stands up and pushes Deku onto the floor. Izuku immediately stands up, giving a little stomp of his foot. “You’re just mad because I’m right!”
“Am not!”
“Am too!”
“Am not!”
“Am too!”
“Fuck you!” Katsuki shouted. Izuku’s hands balled up into fists, cheeks puffing out angrily. His hands feel oddly sweaty and he has the urge to flex them. Which he does not a moment later into a stance that felt only natural. Some would say he looked like Katsuki liked this, but izuku begs to differ. Katsuki was much more tense!
Small bursts of heat surprised Izuku, the signature sounds of an orange explosion following soon after. The argument they were having prior was completely forgotten in their shock. Izuku glanced at Katsuki who stared wide-eyed, hesitantly holding up his hands and mimicking the same explosions that erupted from Izuku’s hands only moments ago.
“MOM!” They yelled at the same time.
It hadn’t taken them too long to figure out Izuku’s quirk. It had first seemed like an exact replica of Bakugou’s explosive sweat, but the mutation had disappeared after Izuku no longer had the intent of using it. They had stayed the night and in the morning Inko Midoriya was making breakfast. Izuku had gobbled it up before choking on hair. (Again?!) And rushing for the nearest drink to wash it down. A few hours later Izuku was feeling particularly bored and wanted an apple that sat on the other side of the room. He’d called his mother, and the rest of the house, in to see the floating apple that drifted towards Izuku with ever pull motion he made.
He was taken to a quirk specialist a bit later, the man had looked a bit wary of the two before informing them as much as he knew about the quirk.
“So far from what we’ve gathered on your son’s quirk is that it is a type of copying quirk. So far there doesn’t seem to be a time-limit, if you find that there is please update us. It is copied through the full digestion process, any mutant quirks given to Izuku can be turned off. So far that is all we know.”
The Midoriya’s nodded and set off for home, Inko shooting a text to Mitsuki to inform them of Izuku’s quirk.
Izuku entered the 8th grade school year with a groan. He HATES the fact that he’s gotten used to choking on hair as tried to stuff it down his poor throat. But there were so many cool quirks that he just had to test out! (“Deku. Why the FUCK can you turn into wood?! KAMUI DOESN’T EVEN HAVE HAIR!?” “Uh well you see, Kacchan-“ “GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT I WANT AN EXPLANATION!”)
Turns out that the leaves that sometimes fall off of Kamui’s head during spring DOES, in fact, count as hair. He has been very sneakily avoiding his brother in fear of having to tell the Pomeranian the truth. (A few of those attempts ended in screaming and something probably catching on fire.)
Fingers, as Kacchan so lovingly called him, followed close behind, muttering to whats-his-name as they casted a glare in Izuku’s direction. Rude. It’s not HIS fault he can have multiple quirks. They’re just jealous because they don’t have to live with the phantom feelings of choking on hair. Izuku has left plenty of restaurants (and cafeterias) with a few handfuls of quirks that he doesn’t want to think to hard on.
Technically he was supposed to be quirkless according to his missing toe-joint. But that just made his quirk all the more cooler, he had a quirk and a pre-quirk-era body! He had to have special made shoes though, that part was a minus.
Now, your probably wondering. ‘oh wonderus most powerfullest Izuku, how could you have such cool powers?’. Well, I have a simple answer to that! And the answer is that he has no clue! He and Kacchan have had a few theories. Maybe the evolved bodies can’t handle the stress of multiple quirks all at once. Maybe it needed something akin to a ‘blank-slate’ so that there’s room for a mutant quirk. For example, he doesn’t currently have fire-resistance that comes naturally with a fire quirk, but when he uses a fire quirk the mutation aspect does appear!
…
That doesn’t explain the whole toe-joint thing though. A load of bullshit if you ask Izuku.
But, that’s not the point. What is the point is that Izuku and Katsuki are BORED. Bored as HELL. They had to move to a new school after their old one burned down due to a villain fight not even a block away. No one was killed, but when the roof caved in it gave quite a few students fatal injuries. Great job keeping the children safe. You should have an award.
So, they did what anyone who was bored would do. They pretended to hate eachother. They’d throw jabs and insults and the occasional roughhousing. It was going great! They matched each other and their mothers absolutely didn’t care! Ok, maybe a little bit but after a few fleeting attempts at getting them to stop failed miserable they learned to get used to the food that would fly over the dining table.
What they didn’t expect was for their classmates to catch on. They didn’t see it at as brothers being brothers, they saw it as one bullying the other. Once Katsuki noticed that their class started to join he tried to immediately shut it down. Only he got to call Deku an Idiot! It didn’t stop it though. The teacher would turn a blind eye when the class was feeling particularly rowdy.
Now, something you may not know about Izuku’s quirk is that, well, a lot of people see it as stealing. Saying that Izuku needs to be ‘original’ and without anyone else he would be ‘quirkless’ or some bullshit like that. It wasn’t until mid-school year did Katsuki finally step up.
Izuku had just been walking in and over to his desk when he saw the most horrifying thing. A note saying that Izuku should off himself. Upon seeing it, Katsuki blew up and sent a good chunk of the class to the hospital (specifically those who placed the note and few who had recorded it and laughed. AREN’T LAUGHING ANYMORE ARE YA.) He got 2 weeks worth of detention, but he stands by the fact that he did the right thing.
UA would be here sooner or later, they had more important things to focus on.
