She’d never shown an ounce of fear towards him, not even as Bruce hovered over her with gaping, toothy jaws just inches away. Not even before she knew that he had no intention of eating her and her clownfish companion.
That might have been the first indication that something was just special about Dory; that she could wiggle her way through a tough exterior and safety boundaries walled up from a history of hurt and pain. That with her endless persistence, she could shatter through that wall— almost effortlessly, and let millions of worries and doubts fade into a haze.
Whenever he’s passing by the reef, Bruce always looks for a small but noticeable blue dot that grows just a little bigger as Dory darts towards him. She embraces him— well, as much as a fish a few inches long can do so to a twenty-foot long shark— with as much joy and friendliness in her voice as the first time they met.
