Wrong coffee, right outcome
“Hi, could I please get a Grande Pumpkin spice latte?” Addison ordered at the Starbucks barista with a sweet smile.
“Sure, hot or cold?” He asked, kinda starstruck by the beautiful, tall redhead in front of him.
“Hot please, oh, could I get some extra pumpkin spices on top of it,” was asked with another sweet smile.
“Of course, will that be all?” He asked, to which Addison simply nodded her head. “Okay, that’ll be $5.25 please, what is the name?” he asked, blushing slightly.
“Dr. Addison Montgomery,” She started, “Oh, sorry,” Addison blushed, “Just Addison, sorry, it’s a habit I guess.”
“That’s okay,” he gulped, shit a doctor, “Your drink will be right up.”
“Thank you,” she smiled again before walking off. Before her drink was ready though, she received an incoming call from Richard. She decided to step outside to take it, not wanting others to overhear, almost bumping into a pretty blonde woman. “Sorry,” she muttered.
“You’re good,” the blonde replied, but she was already out of earshot.
“Hello, what could I get you today?” The barista asked the blonde woman.
“Hello, how are you doing? Could I get a Grande Caramel Macchiato, but with some whipped cream and extra caramel drizzle on top of it?” The blonde ordered.
“Of course! Do you want it hot or cold?” He asked.
“Hot please, and can I add a cinnamon coffee cake as well?”
“Of course, is that everything?” he asked, continuing when the woman nodded, “Then I’ll be $8.42 please. What is the name?”
“Dr. Meredith Grey,” the woman said, chuckling to herself and then correcting herself, “Sorry, Meredith, force of habit.”
“That’s okay, hmm, second doctor already, your order will be right up.”
“Thank you,” Meredith said, making her way over to the pick-up station.
After waiting for a short time, one of the barista’s came over with her food order, telling her, her drink would be up shortly. Looking over as she heard the ding of the door, she saw the redhead she had previously almost bumped into walk back in the store. Smiling sweetly as she came to stand next to her, Meredith couldn’t help but admire her beauty.
“you’re good,” she said out of the blue to the redhead.
“I’m sorry?”
“Oh, when you almost bumped into me earlier. You’re good, I said that, but you didn’t hear me.”
“Oh…” Addison said, not knowing what to say.
“I’m Meredith, by the way,” Meredith said, feeling a little bold today. She had just found out she had gotten through her internship and Richard offered her a job as a new General Attending.
“Addison,” Addison said with a small smile.
Before things could get really awkward, the barista came over with two drinks, Addison and Meredith?” He asked.
“That’ll be us,” Addison said, taking one of the drinks from the barista, for some reason waiting for Meredith to take hers.
They both walked out of the Starbucks, “Cheers then,” Meredith said, holding her drink up. “Cheers,” Addison said as she clinked her cup to Meredith’s.
Both of them taking a sip at the same time, spitting it out almost directly as well, “What the hell,” Addison said, “Yuk,” Meredith said. “Who drinks such a sugary drink?” Addison asked herself out loud while Meredith simultaneously asked, “What idiot drinks a freaking pumpkin spice in September?”
Turning around to Addison, just registering what she had said, “That’ll be me, and hey… it’s not that sugary…” Meredith defended herself.
“And that ‘idiot’ would be me…” Addison said, faking being offended, “It is available, so why not?” She asked.
“What do you say about switching our drinks?” Meredith suggested, seeing – after finally inspecting the drink – she had Addison’s drink in her hand. “Do you have any plans? Maybe we can talk a little more?” She suggested.
“Yes please, and why would I do that?” Addison asked suspiciously.
“Well, since you took the wrong drink and made me drink such a terrible drink, I think you owe me one,” She chuckled. “I can share my cinnamon coffee cake?” Meredith added on, hoping to convince the redhead.
“Hmm…” Addison thought about it, she did have the afternoon off since Richard just pushed their meeting back. “Sure, why not?” she shrugged, sitting down next to Meredith.
After they exchanged their cups, they both took another sip. Both of them sighing in content as they finally got their originally order. “Soo… Addison, what brings you here?”
“Actually, I was supposed to have a meeting in 10 minutes, about working in Seattle, but Richard just called me to push it back,” Addison said.
“Oh coo- Wait, Richard?” Meredith started, “Richard Webber?” She asked after Addison nodded, “from Seattle Grace Mercy West?” She asked her again, “Yes, why?” Addison responded.
“I work there!” Meredith exclaimed. “What position did you apply for?”
“Oh, I didn’t apply, he asked me to come,” Addison started, “But just for one case, for now… he might hire me permanently, as the new Head of OB-GYN as well as Head of Neonatal and Maternal Surgery,” Addison shrugged.
“Oh my god, we’ll be colleagues,” She said.
Inspecting the young blonde, Addison got suspicious. “Colleagues, or boss and intern?” she asked.
Hey! Richard just offered me a position as General Attending, why?” she asked.
“Oh, okay, oh, no reason…” Addison said, blushing slightly. She was totally not thinking about kissing the blonde, like not at all.
“Hmm…” Meredith hummed, inspecting the stunning redhead in front of her, thinking she was beautiful and amazing, saving babies? She was totally not thinking about kissing the blonde, like not at all. “Well, for what it’s worth, I think it’s amazing you save babies!”
“Thank you,” Addison said, her eyes darting to Meredith’s lips before they quickly shot back. “You’re sure you are an attending, right?” She asked again.
“Yes, why?” She noticed Addison’s eyes darting to her lips.
“So, doing this is fine,” Addison said, leaning in, kissing Meredith.
“Totally fine,” Meredith sighed as they pulled away.
