Work Text:
It started out as a normal Saturday afternoon.
Students were spread out all across the UA common room, some doing their homework, some chatting, and some messing around in the kitchen.
Izuku was sitting next to Katsuki on the couch as the latter started to doze off.
Izuku’s heart squeezed in his chest as the boy’s head began to droop onto his shoulder.
If they were alone right now, the green haired boy would card his fingers through surprisingly soft blonde locks and coax him into a more comfortable position.
But because the pair’s relationship wasn’t public knowledge, Izuku suppressed the gigantic smile threatening to break out onto his face and kept his hands to himself.
He did, however, scooch a little bit closer so that their sides were completely pressed together.
The chatter continued around them as he reveled in the closeness of the boy he loved most, until he overheard a comment from Mineta that shattered the peaceful atmosphere.
“Holy shit, guys. Look at Bakugo right now,” He snickered.
Izuku perked up.
He craned his neck to glance over at Mineta, and saw him, Denki, and Sero trying to keep their laughter quiet.
They spoke in hushed voices, but the mention of Kacchan was enough to have Izuku paying full attention to their conversation.
“He’s like an old man, sleeping in the middle of the day,” Denki joked.
Mineta had a look of disgust on his face.
“No, I meant to look at how he’s practically laying on Midoriya,” He pointed over to them.
“Ooohh,” Denki responded.
Izuku’s breathing picked up. He felt sick and uncomfortable.
“Yeah, huh. That is kinda weird,” Sero commented.
“It’s fuckin’ gross, dude. He’s acting like a chick.” Mineta wrinkled his nose.
Izuku saw red.
He spoke loudly.
“Don’t speak about Kacchan like that.” He snapped.
The atmosphere became frigid, and people’s conversations trailed off as they honed their focus in on the commotion.
Denki whistled low and put his hands up in surrender, “O-kay dude, chill out,”
Izuku looked affronted, and he scoffed at being brushed off.
Sero spoke up.
“Sorry, man. We meant no harm, I swear,” He reassured.
But Izuku was still annoyed.
He opened his mouth to defend Kacchan further, only to be cut off by a quiet groan coming from right next to him.
He shifted his attention to where Katsuki had rested his head on his shoulder, and the class watched as Katsuki Bakugo readjusted himself in his sleep and buried his face into the bare skin of Izuku’s exposed shoulder.
Izuku’s heart melted. His boyfriend was so adorable when he wasn’t going batshit crazy with anger.
He sighed and kept his eyes on the sleeping boy, until he heard a couple of choked off laughs and shocked noises.
He snapped his head up with a glare, and was met with nearly half of Class 1A’s eyes trained onto the two of them.
Shit.
He scanned the room to see Mina stifling laughter into her hands, Jirou and Momo staring unabashedly with shocked expressions, and everybody else with similar reactions.
Izuku was pissed.
The whole class might as well have insulted his mother, because he did not like the way they pointed and stared at his boyfriend as if he was a zoo animal on display.
Mineta’s voice cut right through his shock and anger, and he only served to make it worse.
“I mean, c’mon, Midoriya. It’s not every day you see such an angry guy cuddling up to a dude.”
“Blasty looks so tame right now, this is amazing!” Mina giggled, pulling out her phone.
Momo piped up, “I certainly never thought I’d see
something like this—“
Izuku snapped.
He curled the arm underneath Katsuki’s head up so that his forearm covered Katsuki’s face and his hand rested in the boy’s hair.
“Would you all just stop?”
That’s when everybody stopped staring at Bakugo long enough to take note of Izuku’s expression, and when they saw, they were petrified.
The usually sweet-as-can-be Deku wore a nasty glare as he curled his body in further like a shield to cover the blonde.
“Kacchan isn’t some circus attraction, he’s a person. And he sleeps like a regular person, too. What, did you think he just took naps with an attitude?”
The room went silent.
Everybody just stood there awkwardly, scratching the backs of their necks or looking away as if they hadn’t been staring a second before.
Kirishima tried to diffuse, “Sorry, man. It’s just weird to see him like this, that’s all,” He placated
Other students pitched in with an awkward apology or a quiet comment in agreement.
Izuku’s glare loosened up a bit, but he still wasn't looking very happy.
That was, until Mineta decided that he couldn’t keep his mouth shut any longer.
“I mean, he’s not just sleeping. He’s literally cuddled up to you like he’s gay or something.”
Everybody's attention turned to the purple boy in alarm giving him panicked ‘why would you say that’ looks.
And if Izuku had been angry a second ago, he was absolutely livid now.
He let out a shocked laugh, and everybody in the room paled.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?”
Gasps cut through the silence at his words. Deku didn’t cuss.
Mineta, probably in an attempt to salvage his pride, still wouldn’t shut the fuck up.
“I guess Bakugo’s rubbing off on you in more ways than one—“
Izuku stood up abruptly, waking up Bakugo in the process and causing everybody in the room to take a step back.
Katsuki woke up with a jolt and his voice rumbled a quiet, “wuh…?”
Izuku wasted no time marching up to Mineta, picking him up like a child, and hoisting him onto the kitchen counter.
Mina squealed in shock, and everybody’s jaws collectively dropped.
Mineta looked terrified as Izuku leaned into his space with a threatening look.
“You need to mind your own business, grape bitch. I have journals in my room about every one of our classmates. I could ruin your life. I know exactly what strings to pull to humiliate you in the middle of class. I know your strengths and your weaknesses, and I know exactly how to use them against you,”
He punctuated each point with a finger poking into the smaller boy’s chest.
“You better watch your mouth if you want to go to sleep at night feeling safe in this building ever again.”
With that, he turned around and walked back to his spot.
The entire class was stiff with shock.
They had never heard Midoriya speak to anybody like that—threaten anyone like that, let alone a fellow classmate.
The only time they had ever seen him this mad was when Bakugo was kidnapped, but then again, they were all too busy fighting for their lives to think anything of it.
Bakugo was awake and alert now, scanning the room in caution and confusion.
They watched with bated breath for Izuku’s next move, and were hit with another shock as they watched the boy sit back down.
Not next to Katsuki this time, but on Katsuki’s lap instead.
Mineta was still on the counter, probably unsure of how to get down and too scared for his life to even think about moving.
Bakugo wore a confused glare at waking up to see his boyfriend threatening somebody like that, but he responded to the boy sitting on him with practiced ease and wrapped his arms around his middle, resting his head to hook over his shoulder with a protective glare.
There was more silence, until Kirishima shot Mineta a sharp glare, and the boy finally spoke up again.
“S-sorry, dude. I’ll stop.”
Izuku stayed glaring at him, and spoke in a low voice.
“Good.”
The shock didn’t seem to dissipate at the unexpected turn of events, but Kirishima and Mina got to work on breaking up the tension by starting conversations in their respective talking circles.
Denki awkwardly moved to put Mineta back down on the floor.
And every time somebody so much as glanced in Izuku’s direction, his icy glare caused them to look away immediately.
Bakugo was silent during the interaction.
He was confused, concerned, and maybe a little bit turned on, but that was for him and him alone to know.
As much as he didn’t like being left in the dark, he knew better than to interrupt Izuku when he was… in the middle of something.
Once they were given some sense of privacy, albeit forcibly, Bakugo mumbled in Deku’s ear.
“God damn. What the hell did I miss?”
Izuku sighed and relaxed into his boyfriend’s hold.
They hadn’t revealed their relationship to the class just yet because they had planned on just letting people figure it out naturally.
They had been laying low on PDA, but neither had any real reason to, it was just hard to naturally adjust to that.
But Izuku was clearly done with that, and hell, Katsuki couldn’t care less if his boyfriend didn’t. If anything, he thought it was hot.
“Mineta said some things when he saw you asleep on me. Pissed me off,” He mumbled quietly, a little ashamed.
Bakugo sighed in annoyance, dropping his forehead to Izuku’s shoulder now that the threat was dispelled.
“I can defend myself, nerd. You didn’t have to do anything. Coulda just woken me up.”
Izuku lifted his arms to cover the strong muscles that held him.
“Kacchan,” He chided, “Have you met me?”
Bakugo let out a short laugh.
Of course the nerd would do something like that. He never hesitated on standing up for anybody, especially if it was on Katsuki’s behalf.
Katsuki tightened his hold on the smaller boy just a bit.
“Whatever. But since you’re sitting in my fuckin’ lap in the middle of everybody, does that mean we’re out now?” He questioned.
Izuku froze, and it was at that moment that he realized he hadn’t asked permission to do this.
The blood drained from his face.
Katsuki had said before that he didn’t care what anybody thought about him, and had even gone as far as to say that he was proud to be with Izuku, which of course made the other boy cry like a baby.
But he didn’t know if Kacchan was okay with all of this. He had just done it without even thinking.
“Oh my god, Kacchan, I’m—I’m so sorry, I didn’t even think, I was just—“
Bakugo pressed a deep kiss into the hollow of Izuku’s neck and it caused Izuku’s sentence to cut off with a sharp gasp.
He closed his eyes and tilted his head to the side as Katsuki continued to trail kisses up his neck, past his jaw, and right around to the corner of Izuku’s lips. He paused, as if asking permission to continue.
Izuku didn’t give it a second thought.
He turned, and kissed him right there in the middle of the common room.
“HOLY SHIT,” Hagakure yelled.
Mina screamed loudly, starting unfinished sentences in apparent shock.
“No way, guys! That’s so manly!” Kirishima applauded.
Mineta was, as expected, silent.
Denki uttered, “Sweet Jesus.”
Momo was smiling.
And Jirou “whooped” in support.
They broke apart, and Izuku stared into fiery red eyes with a dazed and dreamy look.
Bakugo was incredibly smug. He was never one to give a shit what people thought about him as long as he was the best.
And in his words, being with “UA’s sweetheart” was something to be fucking proud of.
Izuku turned a bit more and buried his face into Katsuki’s neck in embarrassment, and the blonde wrapped his arms around him further, taking his turn to protect the nerd from all the onlookers.
Sero punched the air, “I knew it! I fuckin’ knew it guys, didn’t I tell you guys they were sus—“
“Oi,” Bakugo warned.
“I like dick too, man. Don’t get your panties in a twist,”
Bakugo rolled his eyes at that, but kept up his smug expression.
The class started to bombard the pair with questions, and Izuku tried to answer them all while Bakugo demanded everybody to “chill the fuck out.”
The reactions were shocked, but mostly supportive.
And Izuku?
He was just happy to be in Katsuki’s arms, no matter the setting or circumstances.
