Chapter Text
The silver of Chloe’s new ring glints in the sunlight as she twists it on her finger.
It’s really rather beautiful. It had been beautiful on Lucifer’s finger, black as the onyx she always assumed it was, but now that it’s white and sitting on her ring finger it’s . . . it’s . . .
She twists it again, then holds her hand out, admiring it from a distance. Truthfully, it’s not what she ever expected from an engagement ring, especially not from Lucifer, but it is beautiful.
And the fact it’s been sitting on her immortal boyfriend's finger for who-knows-how-long and is now sitting on hers makes it all the more special.
Chloe had kind of expected that he’d take it back, once she healed and things had gone back to normal. Or as close to normal as they were going to get, now that Lucifer is going to become God.
But a month has passed since Lucifer won against his brother, and still the ring sits on her finger. She can’t help but wonder what it means, and the more time that passes, the more the matter sits on her mind.
Did he know what he was doing? Does he intend to marry her? How does that even work, with the literal Devil?
Chloe twists it again.
Her front door opens abruptly, making her jump. She twists in her chair and reaches for her gun. Her hand finds empty air, her service weapon probably allocated to somebody else by now, and her gut twists.
It’s just Lucifer, but for a second that makes her panic more, the face he shares with his twin staring at her and reminding her exactly why she’s been so jumpy recently.
Lucifer is so patient with her, as he always is, and pauses midstep. He holds his hands up in front of him, but gives her a big toothy grin.
“Hello, Detective,” Lucifer greets, shrugging his jacket off as Chloe catches her breath.
She sends him a smile then extends her hand to him. He takes the invitation, slotting himself between her hand and legs, and settles his palm against her jaw.
“Hi,” Chloe replies, tilting her head up.
Lucifer takes the invitation, catching her lips in a sweet and slow kiss that he smiles into.
When he breaks the kiss, Lucifer leans in slightly further, nuzzling his nose against her temple and lips brushing against her cheek.
“How did it go?” Chloe asks, settling her hands against his hips, fingers slipping through his belt loops.
He hums against her. “Hmm. As well as it does everyday. I arrive. Michael curses the day we were born. We throw some insults, but there’s no evidence he’s left the house. Then I come here, because visiting him is the worst part of my day, but visiting you is the best.”
“You’re right on time,” Chloe says, because she knows how much he hates talking about Michael. “I was just about to make some lunch.”
Lucifer pulls back from her to look down at the counter. He raises a brow.
“Yes, I can see that,” he says, eyes scanning over the two thousand piece puzzle she’s made significant headway on this morning. Chloe purses her lips, embarrassed. “If you’re this hard up for things to do, I can always skip my morning sessions with my insufferable twin to spend time with you instead.”
Chloe waits for the pun about hard up , because it must be coming, but when she raises a brow at him he just pouts.
“You take all the fun out of it,” he says, then catches her lips in a deeper kiss.
Chloe turns slightly in the seat, spreading her legs so he can fit between them. She’s been feeling so restless since quitting the LAPD, with so little to fill her days with Trixie at school.
And, yeah, obviously Lucifer is extremely attractive and gets her going pretty easily, but she’s never really had the inclination - or the time - to have sex during the day.
Now it’s a pretty common occurrence for them to have multiple, uh, bouts. And she is very, very into it. It’s the best way to spend her time.
Lucifer splays his hand on her lower back, pulling her forward with a groan. Chloe arches into him, pulling his shirt from his pants and opening her mouth for him. When he licks up her tongue, she can’t but groan and rock into him further.
He sucks her bottom lip into his mouth, fingers of one hand tightening in the shirt at her back, his other hand sliding down her thigh to hitch her knee high on his waist.
“Don’t worry dear,” Lucifer murmurs, kissing down her jaw, “I’ll make your morning more interesting.”
“Oh, shut up,” Chloe groans, moving her hands to the front of his shirt. She grips the two sides and pulls, buttons flying everywhere.
“That was hot,” Lucifer says, grinning against her neck.
“Just fuck me, would you?”
Lucifer chuckles and pulls back. As his hands slowly work at the buttons on her shirt, he says, “My, my we’re feeling a bit eager today?”
Chloe rolls her hips into his. Yes, she is eager. This really is exactly what she needs. No better way to pass the time right now - everyone else is otherwise occupied, she’s caught up on a lot of movies from the past ten years, and . . . she’s not really a fan of puzzles.
She really needs to find a hobby while she’s waiting for Lucifer to decide he’s ready to become God. She hasn’t had this much free time since . . . since . . . well, perhaps not ever.
Lucifer stops suddenly. “What are you thinking about?” he asks, a little curious, a little petulant.
“How much I want to have sex,” she replies, and it’s basically the truth.
“Anything else?”
“Maybe a couple other things,” she admits, biting her lip.
Lucifer looks her over, eyes narrowed, finishing with her shirt.
“But you do want to?” he clarifies, raising a brow.
“ Yes, ” Chloe groans, rolling her hips into his again.
“Good,” he says, then pulls her from the chair and spins her around.
Her hands slam against the countertop in an attempt to steady herself, while Lucifer’s hands circle her hips to undo her jeans.
“I obviously wasn’t doing a very good job if you could still think about something else,” he says softly, tugging her jeans down her legs.
Chloe steps out of them, pushing back into him, rocking her hips.
With one hand, Lucifer reaches up, gently circling her throat with his palm. With his other, he sneaks his hand down the front of her panties, finding her clit and flicking it with the tip of his finger.
Chloe’s hands grip either edge of the countertop, making it groan beneath her touch.
“Careful of that super strength, darling,” Lucifer whispers into her ear, the hand around her throat drifting down, bypassing the bullet he gifted her to tug gently at the second chain that now holds Amenadiel’s necklace.
His finger circles her clit, and she bucks under his touch, trying desperately to loosen her grip on the counter but not quite managing it.
“Now,” he says, sliding his hand down slightly to press a finger inside her cunt, and Chloe cries out, head falling forward, “let’s make sure you’re only thinking about me, yes?”
Ever since Lucifer and Chloe left the LAPD, Ella has been kind of bored.
The job is still interesting, of course, and helping people like this makes her feel like she has purpose in life. It’s important work.
But rolling up to a crime scene missing Chloe’s unique perspective and Lucifer’s ridiculousness just makes her day less . . . fun. She loved those two. Loves those two.
Carol is nice. He’s a good cop, too, which makes her feel better. And she kind of prides herself on keeping the mood up, keeping things fun, so it’s not all bad. Not bad at all, actually.
Just boring.
Even right now - it’s late, later than most people are still at the precinct. And yeah, Chloe and Lucifer don’t often stay, what with Chloe having Trixie and Lucifer not often seeing the point in being here without her.
But if they were here, she can guarantee Lucifer would have been in here to annoy her, Chloe would have been walking in and out with her head buried in paperwork.
Carol left a while ago, and she’s not mad about that, obviously. She should have gone home already, too. But she’s lonely . . . and bored.
Ella sighs, pulling the slide from the microscope. She really should go home. It’s past midnight, and there’s cold pizza left in her fridge that she’s lowkey looking forward to eating, and she’s tried.
Really tired, actually.
But going back to that empty house just . . . doesn’t sit so well anymore. She used to love it, used to love having her own private space where she could decompress, but now, after everything that’s happened, going home alone often makes a cold sweat break out.
Being here at the precinct makes her feel much safer.
There’s a couch in the breakroom that she’s spent quite a few nights on recently, so maybe she’ll just sleep there.
Decision made, she packs away her slides, then the microscope. She swings her backpack over her shoulder and leaves the lab, intending to go to the breakroom. But when she passes by the stairs, her foot pauses midair.
She doesn’t want to be this person. The person who avoids going home. She works for the LAPD, dammit, and she doesn’t want to let him make her so scared.
She bites her lip. Maybe she could call Linda, or Chloe, or even Lucifer. He’ll definitely still be awake. They could go out for a drink, or maybe somebody will come home with her and eat that pizza.
Yeah. Yeah, that’s good. She feels better already. Ella makes her way to the elevator, pulling her phone from her pocket. She taps a group text out to her friends, then slides the phone into her back pocket while she waits for the elevator.
She’s almost at her car when her phone starts to buzz in her pocket. Juggling her car keys and her bag, she sees Lucifer’s name on the screen. A smile is on her face as she answers.
“Hey! You’re awake!”
She can hear music playing loudly in the background. “Miss Lopez! After some company tonight, are we?”
Ella waits to answer a few moments while the car turns over and her phone connects to Bluetooth.
“Yeah, I was hoping somebody would come hang with me at mine. Pizza and beers, maybe a movie?”
There’s a long pause from Lucifer, and then the music abruptly quiets. “Why don’t you come to Lux instead? I have to stay on the floor for a little while longer, then we can go upstairs and continue the party.”
Ella pulls out of the parking lot, biting her lip. She’d really wanted to face the fear of going home, but she supposes at least she’s out of the precinct.
Just as she turns onto the road, something drops from the sky and onto the hood of her car.
She slams on the brakes, eyes wide and hands tight around the wheel. “¡La madre que te parió!”
“Lopez?” Lucifer’s voice comes through the car’s speakers. “Ella, are you alright?”
Ella takes a deep breath, then loosens her hands on the wheel. There’s nobody really around this late at night, so she puts on her hazard lights and runs the call through her phone again.
“Yeah,” she says, feeling a bit breathless as she holds the phone between her shoulder and ear. “Yeah, I just . . . I don’t know, something hit the car, I think?”
“Do you need me to come get you? Where are you?”
Ella’s brows furrow as she spots what hit her car.
“Uh . . .”
“Lopez, I swear to me, if you don’t tell me where you are -”
“No, no, I’m okay,” she says, bending down so she’s eye level with the hood.
“What hit your car?” he demands.
“Uh . . . A frog? Like a big, huge frog. ”
“. . . Sorry, what?”
Ella stands up, then looks up to the sky, nose scrunched. “It’s got huge eyes,” she says, looking around. “I can’t see any others. Maybe it’s - oh, shit, another one just dropped!”
“I’m going to need more context, Miss Lopez.”
Ella goes over to the new frog, bending down to look at it.
“Ugh, it’s squished! Oh man, the poor guy.”
“Alright, Miss Lopez,” Lucifer says, sounding fondly exasperated, “I’ll be seeing you at Lux within the hour.”
“I think it’s raining frogs,” Ella replies, looking up at the sky again. “That’s weird, right?”
“Within the hour!”
He hangs up, and Ella lets the phone drop.
She should go to Lux. It’s not raining frogs. That doesn’t make any sense. Yeah, that’s silly, and she knows it. Impossible, more like.
By the time she makes her way back to her car, the other frog is gone from the hood.
Yeah. She’s going to Lux. A night with Lucifer is exactly what she needs right now.
