Work Text:
Typically, things like this happen on a cold, winters night, but being vampires that is when everyone is up and about. So, instead, it was the middle of the day and Vlad was in the library, trying to find a loophole to get his father out of trouble with the council before they found out that Vlad was a dimidius, when he came across an odd-looking page. Dog-eared and stained. Piquing Vlad's interest, he spent more time analysing the page until suddenly the room around him started to spin and once it stopped he was no longer in the library.
Looking around, he was presented with old stone walls that he recognised? He was back in Stokely Castle. Continuing to look around the room, he realised he was in his old bedroom, but everything was still there... He was sure that they had nearly everything with them when they left, especially his clothes and cape. The morning call of birds took him out of his thoughts, and movement drew his eyes towards his old bed. Sitting up on the bed was himself.
"AAH!" Younger Vlad screamed, obviously shocked by the intruder. Older Vlad stumbled for a reply, eventually settling on, "Shh! I'm you." Which only provoked confusion in both of them. "I don't know how, but I think I travelled here from the future," He continued, looking at his younger self, "And I don't know how to get back." Silence surrounded both of them as the words sunk in. The only noise coming from Younger Vlad getting out of bed and getting changed into his school uniform. "You? Me? Us? Uh, let's go downstairs, uh, dad might be able to help." He said as he looked into the mirror, putting his tie on. Older Vlad nodded, walking behind Younger Vlad to get to the door, not noticing Younger Vlad wince as he saw he had no reflection.
Arriving downstairs, The Count and Ingrid were already seated in their usual places, looking up to see Vlad walk in both were shocked as someone else walked in behind him. "So Vlad, who's your friend?" Ingrid asked, menacingly, "Yes, Vladdy, who is this?" The Count chimed in. Both Vlads shared a look and Older Vlad said, "I am Vlad, I'm, uh, I'm from the future." To which the two seated vampires started to laugh. Count spoke first, "Do you really expect us to fall for that, now?" The Vlads charged another look and Ingrid muttered something about wimpires. "Dad, don't we look too similar to be joking with you." Younger Vlad argued, "C'mon, just look at us." And on the second inspection, The Count gasped, "Oh my! You two do look alike... But! I need one more test to make sure." He gestured for Older Vlad to come to him and whispered, "Who is your mother?" Vlad looked back at him in shock, never expecting this to be the test but whispered back, "Sally Giles." The Count nodded solemnly. "He is telling the truth." Older Vlad walked back to where Younger Vlad was, just as there was a knock on the front door.
"That'll be Robin" Younger Vlad said as Renfield left to go and let him in. "He's gonna find this so cool..." He sighed, Older Vlad looked down at his younger self, worry filling him. What if he says something wrong and changes everything? He's read books and watched films on time travel and it's never good to change something in the past, the consequences could be massive. Deciding to keep silent about his family history to avoid any timeline break antics. Putting his hand on his younger self's shoulder in an attempt of comfort, Robin walked into the room, trailing behind Renfield "Hey Vlad! Uh, who's this?" The breather asked, looking at the new person in their company and before either could answer, Ingrid inputted, "That's Vlad from the future." Making everyone look at her, and she returned their glares with a disinterested stare, "What? Now you have breather-boy to help you." She said, leaving to go to school. Turning back to Robin, both Vlad's held the same expression on their faces, "This. Is. So. Cool." Robin announced, making both Vlads give him an uncertain smile. "Well, you two better be off to school." Older Vlad said before anything else could happen. Younger Vlad nodded his head and took Robin to leave.
Vlad spent most of his day in the attic, trying to find something that would help him out and get him back to his own time. The Count was mysteriously absent from trying to ask questions about the future, at least, that was until he came back down downstairs to find his younger self and Robin as they came back from school, when approached him with a glass of blood, "Vladdy! There you are! Come, have a glass with me!" Vlad walked over to his father and sat down at the table, "Renfield! Another glass!" He called, when Vlad spoke up, "Actually, uh, I only drink soy blood." To which the Count gave a look between annoyance, disgust and disappointment. "Of course, well, you're Vlad then." He looked to the side, "I guess you haven't changed that much in the future." Trying to avoid further disappointment, Vlad decided to wait in his old bedroom.
The other Vlad spent most of his day trying to get Robin to shut up. He had a million and one questions and Vlad had no answers. When they finally finished school, both of them went back to the castle to try and find a way of helping his older self get back to the right time. They all sat in his room, him on his bed, Robin perched on the windowsill and Older Vlad sat on the floor between the bed and the window. Robin leant backwards as he thought, pen tapping his lips until he leant too far back and nearly fell out of the window; both Vlads shot up in an attempt to catch him, however, as the window cover opened and Older Vlad was exposed to the sun... nothing happened. "How are you not burning?" Robin asked as he sat down on the floor. Older Vlad looked at both of them, trying to think of an excuse and then at Younger Vlad when he realised he had none, sighing, "We're only half-vampire."
After explaining the whole story to them, he gave a cautionary look to them both and turned to himself, "You can't tell anyone else, ok? You'll get dad in a lot of trouble if this gets out to the high council." He looked at his hands, "It's how I got here, I was looking for a way out for him." Younger Vlad just smiled, Robin looked a tad shell shocked. Then Renfield entered the room with a book in his hands, "Master Vlad. I think I have a solution."
Looking through the pages, Vlad realised that this was the book he was looking through before everything started to spin. Flipping through, he found the page that took him here and looked up, "This is the book." He smiled, folding the top corner of the page and everything spun again.
On opening his eyes, Vlad was back in his own time, the books still laid around him. He let out a relieved sigh and got back to work.
Left in Vlad's bedroom was just him, Robin and Renfield. They looked at each other and Renfield left with the book. Robin was the first to speak, "So? Do you become a vampire or not then?" Vlad just looked at him and shook his head and laughed, maybe there was a way of getting out of becoming a vampire after all...
