He… lost?
Miles doesn’t know what to think when the Judge hands down his verdict, horrified by those two simple words.
“Not Guilty!”
As confetti rains down on the courtroom, Phoenix Wright glances around the room in disbelief. Miles stares at him, not sure what is worse—that he was defeated by an attorney on his second case, or that he was defeated by an attorney who spent half the case defending himself. Both are deeply insulting, cruel jabs of fate sure to make Miles look like a loser, and it takes a great deal of restraint to not scream in frustration in the middle of the courtroom.
To make matters worse, the teenage girl—the defendant for the first half of the trial—and the victim share a familiar surname. Fifteen years after his father’s death, why must the Fey family walk back into his life?
For that matter, why must Wright be here? Wright doesn’t seem real, like a relic of the past Miles struggles to remember clearly, and for Phoenix Wright to stand before him as a defense attorney… it feels like a sick joke.
But it isn’t a joke. None of it is. Because of that man, Miles’ win record has been shattered, ruining his reputation. And goodness knows what von Karma will say when he learns Miles lost to a rookie (probably something about how Miles’ loss has damaged his own reputation).
He only lost a case, but the defeat affects much more than this single trial. His reputation, his respect, and his… confidence are all damaged thanks to that verdict, and Miles has no idea what to do now. Who even is Miles Edgeworth without his reputation?
He must battle Wright again soon, and then he will get the victory he deserves.
