Summary:

Jacob had became a wolf early and blames Edward for it. Coming to their school prom to warn Bella until he imprints on someone unexpectedly.

Chapter Text

He knew what vampires are.

Billy warned about the vampire that was accompanying Bella to the dance at their school.

Jacob never saw the supposed vampire himself. Not even Bella had mentioned him, only a girl and her boyfriend named Alice and Jasper.

‘The Cullens’ he remembered from his father’s history, his lineage. Possibly his father had mistaken for the two Cullen couples as the ones escorting Bella during school. Jasper seemed the likely false assumption.

He remembered Bella talking about them, obsessing over their divine looks, like the many at school do. Jacob wasn’t surprised. He’d heard it before.

Something angelic and alluring about their appearance. A mock butterfly, a mockery of virtue. To Jacob, it’s a trap. Death under white laces and flowers. Everything is different to a wolf. He had seen them on some occasions. Their deep set of golden eyes and pallor skin. No blood runs to their cold skin. No flush from their runs. Their hair was much more vibrant making their features more striking.

Their scent was sickly, yet a hint of something warm. It crept in every corner of the forest. Distinct and varies in oriental scents. Very exotic in the forest in comparison to the earthy smell.

Sam and the others aren’t very fond of the smell, so does Jacob. He’d blame them for his wolf shift. Their smell lingered on to Bella, and every other day when he hanged out with her, it effected him slowly. Though with the exception of Seth, who doesn’t seem all bothered by it yet, as he is the newest one.

Jacob had came to the school, where Billy told him about. The music was loud as students entered the parking lot and hall, all dressed and ready to party for the night. He needed to warn Bella, and possibly confront the vampire about it. Or the couple that Bella clings to.

He’d drive her away from them.

He waited by a tree near the parking lot. Bella, wearing a blue dress with a leg brace, was standing outside near a car, he presumed it was the date she is going with. Jacob noticed the air smelled quite mixed with the oriental scents. Realizing there are at least three vampires present in the dance. Maybe there isn’t a mistake that Billy had made.

There was one that hit the strongest, it was closer to them. Lilac and honey, he smelled. It was heady and floral, an exciting feeling. It was comforting in a way that stops Jacob from intervening tonight. It disoriented him from where he stands.

His eyes went to Bella again and remembering what he came here to do.

“Bella” Jacob called with a warm smile. He peaked out behind a tree. He wore a white button up top with black pants. It didn’t quite fit him, his back is slightly hunched, making the front of the shirt look baggy.

“Jake, what you doing here? And you cut your hair” she smiled back with a small chuckle. She turned to walk towards him. Her leg brace slightly dragging onto the ground.

“Broke your leg?” Jacob pointed.

Bella nodded her head with a stutter. “Y-yeah. Fell down from the stairs at my old ballet studio”.

“Why are you at your old ballet studio?”

“I just wanted to visit for old times sake. I thought you heard from Billy, my dad told him”.

“Oh yeah, I remember. But I didn’t know your leg broke… I only heard about your ribs breaking”.

“Well I did break my ribs, but it’s alright now” she assured. “Why are you here again, sorry? Wouldn’t you get in trouble?”

“I had come to warn you” Jacob’s smile faltered.

“About-“.

“About the Cullens. Alice, Jasper, and whoever is befriending you”.

“Jake it’s fine- They are all really nice. You said it was all stories” Bella said with slight hesitation. Jacob can see a glint in her eyes that she wasn’t being truthful. She knew what they are. He felt anger bubbling inside him at the thought of the Cullens threatening Bella to keep her silence. They could see Bella as their next meal.

“No, Bella this is serious” Jacob warned. “They are-“.

Suddenly the same smell invaded his senses. In a glance, he sees someone walking towards them hastily.

“Excuse me” the man said as he stood by Bella’s side. His voice was velvety with worry. Jacob knew that this man was the vampire that Billy was warning about. No warmth emitted from the man as the cold breeze that swept through them.

Jacob glared at Bella then to the vampire next her. He stared at his golden eyes that stopped in his tracks. It all came to a halt.

His felt his life flash before him. What he saw was a vague vision of the forest covered in white snow with red Holly plants. Nothing held him down to the earth, only a chain to grasp on that went down to the ground. There  was a heavy feeling in his chest. Chills running up his spine. It was only then he looked down to see the man before him with the metal manacle clasped around his wrist. Wearing a white suit with blood stained all over. It shook him out back to reality.

As it eerie it may had been. Jacob felt he had lost his breath at the sight of him. He looked back at the vampire, who wore a black suit. His tousled auburn hair against his ashen hue, was a contrast to his vision of snow and holly. It was all too different from what Sam had told about his experience.

Jacob realized what had been done and stares back at the vampire with now wore a horrified look in his eyes. As if he had witnessed what he had saw. He felt a pang of guilt in his chest, bolting out of the parking lot and into the forest.

He can hear Bella yelling to call him back. Jacob cannot stand being near him at the moment. He had imprinted on the vampire.

Jacob shifted into his wolf form. The words echoed throughout his mind. He had imprinted- “On that leech!” an unknown voice filled with anger.

“Jacob!” Paul called angrily. “You imprinted on a leech!”

Jacob sees Leah up ahead with her face contorted into betrayal. She snarled with curses against him and Paul followed suit.

“Traitor!” they fumed on repeat. They chased Jacob through the forest till they reached to the open grounds in front of his father’s house. Their heavy foot shook the grounds that made Sam and the others turn and shift into their wolf form hastily.

“Stop!” Sam commanded. He suddenly halts in his path as the words echoed in his mind too, as well as the rest.

Seth, the smallest of the group, looked at Jacob in shock. “Jacob, why!”

Embry, Quil, and Jared glared at Paul in a ready stance for another fight.

“I don’t know” Jacob repeated huffing still. “I- I don’t know why? It wasn’t in my control”. A surge of panic breaking in.

Jacob thought back at the school. Talking to Bella at the parking lot. He can hear the others becoming silent with small growls, watching it play out in their minds.

The moment the vampire came into the picture, they all growled. Seth kept his silence as he continued watching the scene of his vision. He beared the same look of shock at the sight of the manacle clasped around the vampire’s wrist. Seth looked away.

“Does the vampire know?” Leah asked as she marches towards Jacob with her head held high.

“It’s Edward. He knows” Sam revealed.

Jacob turns to Sam, he felt a gloom overcoming him.

“He’s a mind reader. No doubt he saw what you saw” Sam explained.

“Now what?” Jacob worried.

“Probably he’s panicking at the dance with Bella after that fiasco” Jared laughed.

Guilt began to weigh on him more. Baffled at his sudden protection on the vampire.

“Get rid of him” Leah suggested. She turns away from the group with heavy footsteps.  “He’s a leech anyway. That is what we are turned into for, right”.

Jacob’s heart sunk.

Paul snarled with agreement. “The treaty is enough for us to be safe. So why keep him alive, he’s bound to suck the life out of Bella”.

“No. It is against us if we do kill the imprinted. No harm or to the family of the person” Sam intervened.

“So what now? Forget it ever happened” Jacob argued. “He’s a mind reader, Sam”.

“Mind reader or not, he’s probably not understanding what is happening to himself at this very moment” Sam turned away. “And so as for you”.

“Like it effects the dead. You should’ve let Bella deal with it on her own” Paul chastised.

They all left to patrol for the night. The curly red headed vampire is still on the loose.

Jacob wondered how much it is effecting Edward more than him.
