Chapter Text
The last place that Katsuki thought he would be once he moved up to CEO of his family empire was at the local grocery store buying cup noodles. His eighth assistant in a month had just quit and since he didn't have help he couldn't even hire domestic staff to make his life easier. This is not what he thought he would be doing once he finally made it big. It's not what his parents did and it's not what he wanted to be doing either. It wasn't like he didn't like doing his own chores, but he was too busy for that shit. So no actual dinner tonight. He was so out of touch with reality that he didn't even know any good takeout spots for food. This was the extent of his stupid knowledge of things outside of his job scope.
Plus, stores were loud and filled with people who were just as tired as he was but made way less. He didn't hate them for that, but he didn't like to think about it. The less he had to think about the shit show that was his personal life, or lack thereof, the better. Just when he thought it really couldn't get any worse, a small child ran into him full force and caused him to ram into the aisle, almost knocking it over. Ready to turn around and strike the fear of a god into that child, he saw a mess of green curls run up to them.
"Mai, oh my goodness, are you okay?"
Katsuki knew that voice anywhere, even if it had been 6 years since he'd heard it. He watched the familiar face, not aged a day since the last time they met, check the child for any injuries.
"Remember when I said that we can't run in supermarkets? This was one of the reasons why. Now we have to apologize to the nice man and pay for his cleaning."
Katsuki stared numbly at the sight before him and looked at his gray winter coat that was now covered in a dark purple stain that also covered the little girl. Not too far from them laid a dripping juice box that had seen better days. A little girl with blond hair so light it looked white and piercing red eyes that looked like his stared up at him with tears collecting in her lashes.
His chest constricted and he couldn't breathe. The little girl, Mai apparently, stood in front of her mother with tears in her eyes and they bowed at the same time.
"I-i'm rea-really sorry, mister!" She was hiccuping and her mother picked her up and reached into his pocket.
"I'm sorry about that. Impulse control is hard for little ones." For the first time since the incident, the man looked into Katsuki's eyes and suddenly, Katsuki was transported to the last time that he saw the man.
The man he left standing in an alleyway outside of a cafe that they used to frequent with the tiniest bump in his belly that Katsuki so desperately tried to ignore. The man that he threw money at and told him to "get rid of it" before turning away and never seeing him again. The man he grew up with. The love of his life, Izuku Midoriya.
"Sir?" Izuku called out and snapped Katsuki out of his haze. He was holding out a wad of cash as best as he could with both hands without dropping the little girl. "I'm so sorry about this. I hope this covers it."
Katsuki looked at the money dumbly and shook his head, but Izuku insisted.
"Please, sir. I want to teach my daughter about consequences and accountability."
Katsuki flinched, knowing that it was partially aimed at him. sheepishly he took the money and before his hand could touch Izuku's, the other man let go.
"Thank you. I'm sorry again, I hope you have a great evening."
And Katsuki hated how formal Izuku was. He hated that the whole interaction made him feel like a total stranger. What he hated the most though, was when Izuku walked away. As much as he wanted to run after him, his feet stayed frozen in the same spot. The money Izuku gave him was enough for a cleaning and then some, and he was no longer hungry. While Izuku was never one to struggle for money, he'd never had the funds to straight out clean a designer suit and even replace it before.
He had a daughter. Not only did he have a daughter, but he missed her whole life. And for what? He couldn't even begin to understand why he said or did all those years ago.
*
Izuku couldn't breathe. He was clutching his child to his chest and trying his best to wrap his coat around her so the cold air wouldn't seep through her wet clothes and give her hypothermia. They were close to home anyway. She was still crying and all Izuku wanted to do was take the pain away. All she wanted was cookie mix to make some treats with Inko and Izuku. Usually, he never took her out, especially during times when the weather was terrible like it was that day. It was nearing freezing temperatures and the last thing he wanted was for his pup to get sick.
She was usually so well behaved, so why she decided to act out on today of all days and run into the person who never wanted to see them again was beyond him. If he believed things happened for a reason, then maybe he would have taken this as a sign. Maybe his life was just going a little too well and this is why that happened. It didn't matter anyway, not when he needed to change his baby out of her soiled clothes and get them back to the sanctuary of their home. They could make cookie dough from scratch, even if he was too tired to look for a recipe.
*
They grew up together. Childhood best friends because their mothers were amazing friends. Mitsuki was incredibly anal about her luxurious home being clean and she could never find a cleaning agency that she liked.
Either they didn't have enough staff, they were sketchy, or she just plain didn't like them.
That's when she found Inko Midoriya.
At the time she was just running her business out of her home with part-timers that wanted to clean for extra income. College students, single moms who needed the flexibility, domestic abuse survivors, anyone who had trouble finding other jobs, it didn't matter; Inko would take them with open arms. She didn't have a ton of money, but she paid them well and gave them the freedom to choose their own schedules. Happy workers produced amazing work. Mitsuki heard about Inko from an industry friend who used Inko's agency and raved about the young woman's work. So Mitsuki poached her.
There was nothing Inko couldn't do amazingly well and soon she was using her entire agency to clean the Bakugo home. Usually, she would handle administrative work and only clean when the paperwork wasn't piled up, but because Mitsuki had such high standards, she went and cleaned with the rest of her girls to make sure it was done right. That meant that she also had to take Izuku, who was little more than three at the time. Inko was practically a single mother and knew how hard it could be to work around the schedule of a young child without a village.
Luckily, Mitsuki absolutely fell in love with him and those chubby freckled cheeks, so she hired another nanny to take care of him and her own son, Katsuki, who was the same age as Izuku. As the two women's friendship grew, so did Katsuki and Izuku's. They were constantly spending the night over at each other's homes and playing together. The families became inseparable. As sparse as Hisashi was, he and Masaru got along famously when they did happen to see each other.
Both of the kids knew they liked spending time with each other. Even if Izuku was a big cry baby and wouldn't stop following Katsuki around. Even if Katsuki was a big meanie and didn't like to share. They could get over it because when it came down to it, they had each other. What Izuku didn't know at the time was that Katsuki was impossible to fall in love with. Not for any of the reasons anyone might think, but because Katsuki was engaged.
He'd actually been engaged before he and Izuku even met, before he was even born.
Katsuki's family held one of the largest fashion firms in the city. They were so successful that when Mitsuki got pregnant, she sought out the equally pregnant wife of the Yaoyorozu family. They were the largest suppliers of fabric in the country and with the two of them combined they would be unstoppable. The deal was sealed when both children's second gender was confirmed through expensive blood testing in utero. An alpha and omega, how could things be more perfect?
Of course, everyone knew about it, it was no secret. Every socialite they knew wouldn't stop talking about the match made in heaven that was Momo and Katsuki. Momo was growing into a perfect omega and Katsuki was an alpha that any second gender wanted. It was hard not to get excited about the couple when the parents were constantly talking about their upcoming union. It wasn't a secret when the boys shared their first kiss while they were hiding from their nannies in a closet. It wasn't a secret when Izuku and Katsuki started exploring each other's bodies after a bath together and discovering they had different parts. and it certainly wasn't a secret when Izuku presented as an omega and Katsuki helped him with his every heat. Of course, their parents could never know. Not when so much was riding on the line. So they continued in secret all the way until a month before Momo's 20th birthday. Also known as a month before the wedding was going to take place.
Izuku always thought that a wedding combined with another celebration was tacky, but it was none of his business. He knew that Katsuki was engaged and he'd even met Momo on more than one occasion. Izuku would go as far as to say that they were friends. They texted each other stupid memes at least once a week and when they were kids all three of them would play together whenever Mitsuki invited them over. It never dawned on Izuku that Katsuki would ever actually get married though.
They never acted like an engaged couple or even a couple that dated. There was never any talk about the wedding and Izuku had never so much as seen them touch each other. It was so easy to just forget the sad reality of what was going on, that Katsuki would inevitably drop him for the whims of his family.
Never did Izuku think that it could come so abruptly though. It was a regular Tuesday morning and Katsuki had just finished blowing Izuku's back out. The second he pulled his dick out of Izuku's used hole, he stood up and pulled his sweats on, leaving Izuku to clean himself up. It was completely out of character for Katsuki. Usually, he would leave it in as long as he could and snuggle Izuku until he had to slap the alpha away to clean up. Katsuki would then do it for him and they would either take a nap or get something to eat.
"You in a rush this morning or what?" Izuku's heat was wrapping up and the horrible cramps and haziness were now gone. Now the only effects that lingered were nesting and staking claim to everything that was his. They both got in the habit of wearing collars so as not to mark each other and cause a mess.
Izuku waited for a response as he tried not to leak all over Katsuki's expensive sheets.
"Let's end this."
Izuku didn't register it, he almost didn't even hear it. They never talked about what they were despite all those long night video calls where they fell asleep together talking about the future. On some level, they knew this was wrong, knew that this was technically cheating even if Katsuki never expressed any interest in actually getting married.
"What?"
"I know there isn't anything to end but," Katsuki pulled on one of his signature black tanks and threw a dirty shirt over at Izuku. Both of their families were out for the past month and Izuku had basically been living out of the Bakugo home in nothing but Katsuki's clothing. His omega had felt so safe and cared for that this was a shock to his very being. "This has to stop. The wedding is next month as we can't do this anymore."
"The wedding?" Izuku felt his mouth dry up. "That's still on?" He knew it was, but it didn't stop his surprise.
"Yeah, and it'll get harder the closer it gets."
"You mean the urge to fuck and kiss me and treat me like your mate will get harder?" Izuku scrambled off the bed, not caring about Katsuki's seed leaking out of him.
Katsuki clenched his jaw and remained silent as he eyed Izuku getting dressed in the clothes that he first came over in.
"You want to stop what's been going on since we were three? Since we had our first kiss at five in the closet and all the times you held me and told me you were so happy my mom worked for your mom and we could be friends?"
"I never said we had to stop being friends."
"What would that even look like for us, Kacchan?! I don't know a life without you holding my hand under the table at family dinners and getting your goodnight texts when you're not here to kiss me."
Looking ashamed, Katsuki clenched his fists and looked away. Izuku felt the rage bubble up inside him as he uncrumpled his dirty shirt and threw it on. If they were going to do this then Izuku needed to be less vulnerable. "I mean, what did you think was going to happen? Were you just going to toss me aside when you got married? Or were you just going to keep it going? Fuck your wife when you needed an heir and fuck me anytime after? Was I always going to be your di-"
"You knew what this was when we started!" Katsuki cut Izuku off. "Don't come at me like you didn't know what we were."
Izuku felt the tears in his eyes and the bile rising in his throat. As well as he usually could control his scent, this time he just couldn't. Rotten citrus and decaying foliage filled the room little by little as Izuku got more worked up. "Yeah, I knew you were engaged when I was 5, and when you fucked me for the first time when we were 13. I didn't know you would treat me like shit when the time finally came though."
Silence was thick in the air, both afraid to move until Izuku finally spoke again.
"I love you." His voice wobbled.
Katsuki couldn't breathe. He felt like he was suddenly transported to the moon and he couldn't get a grip on himself. How did this happen? How could he allow this?
"Tough shit." He didn't mean to say that and he didn't mean to be the cause of that completely devastated face on the man that he loved more than anything else in the world.
They'd never said that to each other before. Never so much as acknowledged there was any romantic feeling between them even though it was so obvious in everything else that they did.
So Katsuki just had to stand there and try not to cry as Izuku sobbed his eyes out and packed his things. As much as he wanted to run to Izuku and take it back and make sure that he knew that Katsuki loved him too, he couldn't.
Not when the wedding was already set and he already started getting fit for the tux. Momo had already picked out her dress and the honeymoon to a secluded island vacation to begin the process of starting their family was already booked. Mitsuki was so excited that she already made arrangements for Izuku to be the best man and sit with the family of the groom at the reception.
So all he could do was watch Izuku gather his things and walk out of his life. As much as it hurt, he knew that Izuku would get over it eventually. Maybe sometime down the line when Izuku forgave him they could return to what they used to be. Soft morning kisses and lazy morning sex, giggles underneath the sheets during sleepovers when they were supposed to be studying, and exciting public sex when they were out and about.
Katsuki had no idea how wrong he was.
