Chapter 14: Frail Gods, Wary Humans

Summary:

In the real world, Tai's climactic battle with the last three members of Olympos is coming up within literal minutes. Unfortunately, Olympos XII is a little busy with...business.

Notes:

I love this chapter! Lots of people dying in pretty brutal ways though. Anyways, one more chapter after this one!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Tai walked out of his room and stretched.

"About time I have a normal night. It's been too long." Tai muttered to himself.

He walked over to his fridge. He opened the door up and ducked into it to find something for himself.

Tai grabbed a simple slice of watermelon before he closed the fridge door. He got ready to bite down on the watermelon.

"Did you have a goodnight?" Tai heard behind himself.

He turned around before dropping his watermelon in surprise.

Sigma stood in front of him, long gashes resting all over his body.

"S-Sigma! W-What happened to you?!" Tai stumbled back.

"It was Belphemon, Taichi. We weren't strong enough to beat him." Sigma told him. "Not without you."

"W-What? But...I thought...what..." Tai furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"Taichi." He looked to the side. His eyes grew wide as he found the others, all of them just as cut up as Sigma.

"Wuh...huh..." Tai backed away.

"You left us alone, Taichi." Neo stated with an impartial voice.

"You let us fight without you." Hideto said with the same tone.

"Some hero you are, letting us get hurt. Letting us die." Mari scoffed.

"I thought you and Zero were stronger..." Izzy admitted. "But now I know that you're weak."

"I...I don't get it...w-what's happening?" Tai began slip to the floor.

"Don't you get it, Taichi?" Tai found Sora behind himself. She was just as battered as the others.

"S-Sora! Oh...oh god..." Tai fell to the ground.

"You let us die. All because you were 'hurt'." Sora looked down at him with judgmental eyes. "I always thought you were better than that."

"S-Sora...I...I didn't want you to get hurt..." Tai replied with a shaking voice.

"But that's what happened." Tai looked up, finding Rei.

"Rei!" Tai lowered his head back towards the ground. "No...no no no...You...and Sora...everyone else..." He covered his head.

"You let us get hurt." Everyone told him scornfully.

"I...I didn't know..." Tai whimpered. "I didn't know you would all get hurt!"

"We depend on you! We need you." Rei informed him. "You can never leave us alone like you did."

"You let us get hurt!" Everyone shouted.

"I'm...sorry..." Tai muttered.

"You let us get hurt!" Everyone said louder.

"I'm sorry!"

"YOU LET US GET HURT!"

"I'M-

-SORRY!" Tai yelled.

His eyes shot open and he sat up in bed.

He panted as he looked around the room. He felt his heart beating quickly in his chest.

"W-What...I..." Tai held his chest. "None of that...was real..."

Tai fell back into bed. He stared at the cieling of his room.

"None of it...none of it was real..." Tai reassured himself halfheartedly. "None of it..."

"We depend on you! We need you...You can never leave us alone like you did."

"None...of...it..." Tai curled up in bed.

Tai got out of bed many hours later. The nightmare hung around his mind, but it would have to struggle with all of the other ones he had to actually trouble him.

And jokes on that nightmare, it didn't even have Arcadiamon in it.

He went about his normal morning routine before going back to his bedroom to grab something for old times' sake.

His cape!

He zipped it on as he walked outside, immediately being greeted by Izzy, Sora, Matt, Joe, and Mimi.

"Ooh, nice cape." Mimi complimented him.

“Thanks...uh." Tai pointed at Joe and Mimi. "Who are you two?”

“How can you not remember us? We fought you a little over two weeks ago! How do you forget a face as pretty as mine?” Mimi huffed.

“I’m Joe, she’s Mimi. Sora and Izzy invited us to walk to the harbor with you.” Joe explained as Mimi continued to complain.

"They also invited me." Matt added quietly.

Tai smiled at them. “Alright. Let’s get going then.” Tai threw his hand forwards and walked down the stairs with his five followers.

“It’s all ready, Dianamon.” Neptunemon, Dianamon, Marsmon, Merukimon, and Bacchusmon stood in a circle.

“Good. We’ll strike as soon as Jupitermon arrives.” Dianamon whispered to them.

They all sat down in their seats around the glowing orb.

“Good to see you all.” Apollomon waved at them as he sat down.

“Hi Apollomon. Are you ready for the fight today?” Dianamon brandished her scythe like she would any other day.

“I guess so. Together, I believe we can defeat UlforceVeedramon.” Apollomon gave her a genuine smile. She held back a laugh.

“Hello, Olympos.” A still winded Jupitermon and Junomon sat down. Dianamon nodded at Neptunemon.

“It’s good to see you all.” Ceresmon and Venusmon entered the meeting room.

Dianamon glanced at Neptunemon.

“Apollomon, can we talk about something?” Dianamon lowered her scythe.

“Yes?” Apollomon clenched his fists.

Bacchusmon slinked behind Jupitermon.

“Well, I was thinking that...” Dianamon tried her best to not draw attention to Bacchusmon as he got very close to Jupitermon and opened his mouth.

“Is this your shoddy attempt at an assassination, Dianamon?” Jupitermon stood up fast enough to send his chair flying back into Bacchusmon’s mouth.

"Grace Lance!” Junomon flew forwards and thrusted her lance at Dianamon. It was caught by several mouths jetting out from a spear.

“They figured it out, Dianamon!” Neptunemon threw Junomon back as Apollomon jumped at him.

“I can tell! Just kill them!” Dianamon met Jupitermon’s hammers with her scythe.

“Why betray us?” Jupitermon started to overpower her.

“Because you people are weak! You refuse to do what is necessary to complete our goals because of ‘honor and regulations’.” Dianamon threw him off long enough to dash back.

“Needle Hive!” Junomon appeared behind Dianamon and shot several sharp winds at her back.

“The plan could be going better!” Merukimon picked up Dianamon and moved her out of the way.

“Hold off Junomon. I think I can beat Jupitermon.” Dianamon whispered. Merukimon nodded.

“Come on, Apollomon! We would happily let you join the winning team!” Neptunemon blocked a few more punches from him.

“I expected betrayal, but not from four members!” Apollomon uppercutted Neptunemon’s spear out of the way. “Sunfire Punch!” He punched Neptunemon far away, leaving hot flames all over him.

“Mugenhadou!” Marsmon tried to punch Apollomon in the back of his head but was stopped by a bird pecking at him.

“Thank you, Venusmon!” Apollomon nodded at the pacifist before gut punching Marsmon hard enough to make his data fizzle.

“Mirage Image!” Merukimon dashed around Junomon. “Catch me if you can!”

Junomon shrugged before flying off to fight Dianamon.

“Oh, for the love of-Thousand Fists!” Merukimon rushed at Dianamon’s back. Some vines grabbed onto his legs and tripped him.

“Fruit Flechette!” Ceresmon M shot a barrage of needles at Merukimon’s back. He screamed in pain as they embedded themselves deep into his body.

“I’m staying out of this.” Vulcanusmon walked over to a corner and forged weapons as Bacchusmon rushed at Jupitermon.

“We are not gods, Dianamon. We have rules because without them, we could never allow the people to live freely. It is our duty to not interfere unless absolutely needed.” Jupitermon dodged a swipe from her.

“We serve a god however. Sometimes, you must do things for others that they don’t even know they want! I’m just trying to protect the Digital World and Homeros!” Dianamon swung again and Jupitermon ducked. She slashed Bacchusmon across the mouth, chipping his teeth.

“And so am I! Mabolt!” Jupitermon punched Dianamon over and over with his hammers before launching her back. Thunder clouds formed over her and struck her.

“Cook Of The Hell!” Bacchusmon tried to snap his teeth down on Jupitermon’s head.

“LOVE YOU!” Venusmon blew a kiss into Bacchusmon’s mouth, making him fall back in a daze.

“Thank you, Venusmon-Watch out!” Jupitermon shouted.

Venusmon tried to turn, but a spear rammed through her chest.

“One down.” Neptunemon announced with little sympathy. He took his spear out and Venusmon fell to the floor, slowly disappearing into data.

The hall fell silent as everybody took in her death.

“Eyes on the prize, Apollomon!” Marsmon threw a flaming fist at him. Apollomon caught it with ease and turned to him with a fire in his eyes.

“You’ll pay, you bastards! Sun Ball Blast!” The large sun hovering over Apollomon’s head lit up brightly and fired a scorching ray straight into Marsmon.

“Aaah! Aah! Aaaaah!” Marsmon flailed as the flames burned his entire body. He fell to his knees and died in that position, his data floating away into the air.

“Mari!” Eight girls wearing perfectly normal clothing greeted Tai’s possy, which had grown with the Saibas and Alias III.

“Lily!” Mari hugged her friend as the others surrounded her.

“Sigma!” Carly picked him up and spun him around in a hug.

“Not in front of everybody, Carly.” Sigma blushed.

“It’s been so long guys! Wendy, Marge, I see you guys are wearing the same clothing.” Mari pointed at the two.

“That’s because Marge can’t think for herself!” Wendy pouted.

“She’s just angry because I wear it better.” Marge showed off her dress.

“Can you defeat Ariana and Anna, Kamiya?” III and IV walked over to him.

“I don’t know, probably.” Tai shrugged.

“Oh lord, we put our hopes into this guy.” IV mumbled as Tai complained about a rock in his shoe.

“Well Tai, it’s up to you.” III nodded at him.

“I can drink to that!” X finally got a drink of her grape juice.

“There’s still so much we need to catch up on, Mari. Like, I had a boyfriend named-”

*Beep Beep*

“-Hmmm?” Lily unclipped her device and looked at it. She gasped and dropped it.

“What?” Mari saw her shaking. The others gathered around the two.

“Venusmon...Is…” Lily struggled to continue talking. Sigma picked up the device and gasped.

“Venusmon has died!” He announced. The others’ eyes shot up.

“How?” Tai was on it in a second.

“According to the synopsis, she died in battle.” Sigma continued to look through the small message on the screen.

“Battle? But I haven’t been in any since yesterday, and it was only one battle!” Lily trembled in Mari’s arms.

“I’m so sorry for your loss, Lily.” Wendy patted her on the shoulder.

*Beep Beep*

Wendy pulled out her device and gasped.

“Don’t tell me.” Marge looked over Wendy’s shoulder.

“Your Digimon has died in battle. Read more.” The message flashed on Wendy’s screen.

“What the heck is going on?” Sora also looked over Wendy’s other shoulder.

“I believe it is time that I speak up.” A woman said. They all turned to Mari.

“That wasn’t me. I don't know who that was.” Mari looked around.

“It was I, Mervamon. The last of the Olympos XII.” Mari took her device out and stared at it.

“M-Mervamon?” Sigma and Izzy ran over and looked at the monster on the screen.

“Yes. I believe the time has come for me to tell the truth about myself and the other Olympos members.” Mervamon’s voice said clearly through the device.

Everybody crowded around Mari in awe.

Nobody moved as Apollomon kicked Marsmon over.

“This is not at all what I was expecting.” Dianamon sighed, completely unphased by the death of her ally.

“You’ll die, Dianamon!” Apollomon still had flames in his eyes.

“I want to see you tr-Aah!” Dianamon was slammed into a wall by a large, electrified sword.

“Jupitermon! Are you sure you should be using Wrath Mode?” Junomon flew to his side.

“I won’t let Venusmon’s death be for naught!” Jupitermon Wrath Mode shot out electricity. “It may cost my body, but I will fight in Venusmon’s name!” Sparks flew all around the battlefield.

“That mad man is using that form in his condition?” Dianamon stood up shakily. “Perfect.”

“Neptunemon, I’ll distract Ceresmon. Go in for the kill.” Bacchusmon and Neptunemon nodded at each other.

“Mirage Image!” Merukimon rushed at Apollomon as the others began their fights.

“Your speed does not make you invincible, fool!” Apollomon swung his arm around, missing Merukimon by a hair. Merukimon rammed his dagger into Apollomon’s waist.

“Sunfire Punch!” Apollomon brought his fists together and slammed them down on Merukimon’s head.

“Here I come, Ceresmon!” Bacchusmon stomped towards Ceresmon.

“Always taking my fruits and resting in my forest, and this is how you repay me?” Ceresmon M glared at Bacchusmon. “Fruit Flechette!" Ceresmon M shot another wave of needles, presumably not noticing that Neptunemon boarded Ceresmon.

“Borracho Maw!” Bacchusmon ate as many of the needles as he could as the other ones shot into his skin.

“Get away from me, Neptunemon.” Ceresmon M didn’t bother to turn around as vines wrapped around Neptunemon’s body.

“Hmphmpmhmphh.” Neptunemon said, most likely angry.

“Oh crap!” Dianamon was struck onto Ceresmon’s back.

“Hipmeubth!” Neptunemon ordered.

“God you people are incompetent. Get out of the way, Ceresmon! Glacial Shaving!” Without mercy, Dianamon cleared straight through Ceresmon M on her way back down, cutting the plant in half.

Ceresmon roared as it collapsed to the floor, the greenery on it shriveling up into nothing. It slammed into the ground, collapsing into a mound of dirt.

“Ceresmon!” Apollomon held Merukimon under his shoulder, slowly choking him.

“You...lost...your resolve! Kerykeion!” Merukimon tried to stab Apollomon, but he quickly let go of Merukimon and elbowed him in the face.

“You’ll pay for what you’ve done, you rats! Sun Punch Arrow!” The jewels on Apollomon’s hands shot out several flaming arrows. Merukimon, who was still reeling from the elbow he received, failed to dodge a single arrow.

He howled as his body went up in flames.

“Love Basket!” Junomon appeared behind Merukimon and her staff flashed at him. Two spike walls made of energy appeared around him and crushed him. His broken body fell to the floor and wasted away into data.

Apollomon looked at her and she let out a quick laugh.

“I caught him.” Junomon said before flying at Dianamon.

“This...form of...yours...is really...strong!” Dianamon barely dodged an incredibly fast swing from Jupitermon.

“I’m surprised you can keep up with it, heathen!” Jupitermon slapped her across the face with the broad side of his blade.

“Yes, well, with my special scythe here, Coruido Psichisl (Soul Sucker), I absorb the data of my enemies. Ceresmon was quite the treat, but with your power, I can transcend a god.” Dianamon’s scythe glowed with light blue energy.

“Then I cannot allow you to kill me. Come forth, Dianamon. Let me see how far selling your soul can take you.” Jupitermon gripped his blade with both hands.

The two stared each other down as Junomon fought Neptunemon and Apollomon fought Bacchusmon.

“The Olympos XII are a group of very powerful Digimon who guard the Digital World. The few Digimon who know about us consider us to be gods, when in reality, we protect the Server Master, Homeros, who could be considered god.” Mervamon explained.

“What does that have to do with our Digimon?” Lily was still being held by Mari.

Many years ago, before Daemon took over god’s castle, we all fought the Demon Lords separately. Jupitermon, our gracious leader, fought Belphemon. In the end, he sustained a horrible wound in his side, forcing him to seal away Belphemon, as defeating him was impossible.” Mervamon continued. "The Demon Lords ultimately returned, but without Belphemon and with their lack of Daemon's leadership, they proved much less of a threat."

“Answer the question!” Wendy yelled as Marge dabbed her eyes with a tissue.

“With Jupitermon being wounded, he had to choose a new leader. He chose the proud but apathetic Apollomon over the dedicated but perverse Dianamon. The group quietly split into two factions that would follow Apollomon and Jupitermon, but always with an extreme amount of tension.” Mervamon continued to ignore the two girls.

“Mervamon, if you don’t mind me asking, why are the Olympos XII the Digimon of the Tulip Twelve?” Mari looked at the blank Digivices of her friends. She also saw the pissed look everybody had because of Mervamon ignoring them.

“And now we reach the reason for the death of your Digimon, and my desperate plea to Kamiya and Zero.” A sad look appeared on Mervamon's face. “The Olympos XII has finally come to blows, which could damage the Digital World irreversibly. Taichi Kamiya, I ask that you go to the Digital World and stop them from destroying the world I love so much.” Mari turned her device to face Tai.

“Uhhhh.” Tai scratched his chin.

“Please, Kamiya! Only you and Zero could possibly stand up to Dianamon and the other Olympos members when they are in the Digital World!” Mervamon put her hands together.

“Sure. But what about Ariana and Anna?” Tai looked at the crowd of kids waiting further down the harbor.

“Tai, this is more important than a Digimon battle. The whole Digiworld is at stake.” Neo walked over to him. “I’ll fight her in your place.”

“The heck you will! Beating those two would raise my rank massively! I-” Tai stopped as two more beeps went off.

IX and Marge took out their devices.

“They...they died!” Marge screamed. IX’s mouth quivered.

“Please Tai! We are running out of time! I'm not sure which faction will win if you don't act!” Mervamon bowed her head.

“Right! We still have another 20 minutes until the match. I’ll be back in a jiff!” Tai dashed towards his house.

“You don’t have the email anymore!” Sora shouted. Tai skidded before running towards Neo’s house.

“Hey, Mervamon? How come you're not fighting right now?” Mari looked at the last member of Olympos XII.

“I...left the group. it was only a little while ago. A few years in the Digital World. I traveled the lands so that I could actually help people. That was until I became your Digimon, which I was fine with.” Mervamon shrugged.

“Why did you leave?” Izzy asked.

“Do you really want to know? It was because of…”

“Tai and Zero will die!” Dianamon started to strike with a flurry of attacks that overwhelmed Jupitermon.

“Your words are laced with the blood of my allies! I’ll make sure you never touch those young warriors!” Jupitermon found an opening and stabbed Dianamon in the side.

“Homeros himself gave us the order, and yet you resented it from the start! You were never fit to lead the Olympos!” Dianamon countered by sticking her scythe into Jupitermon’s shoulder.

“We had no way of knowing that our interpretation was even correct! Of course I would be reluctant to follow through with it!” Jupitermon tried to stab her again, forcing her to lift her scythe out and dodge back.

The two rushed at each other again.

“Homeros, the Server Master, one day gave us a cryptic message.” Mervamon closed her eyes. “He would repeat, without end, three words: Tai. Kill. Knights.

“Which you guys interpreted as?” Neo rolled his hand.

“After fierce discussion, we ultimately decided that Homeros was telling us that Tai and Zero would kill us, presumably for them to become the apex beings of the Digital World. It was shaky, but it was also the only thing we had. That is why they aligned themselves with the Olympos XI. Eleven skilled Digimon players in Odaiba. If they could take Tai’s device and destroy it, Zero would be killed. But you all shined through in the end, defeating the guardians who were much weaker than they expected in the real world.” Mervamon smiled.

“You mean we just sent Tai to stop a group of people who want him dead?” Sora’s eyes grew wide.

“If Tai were to save the Olympos members from Dianamon and her gang, I doubt they would see him as the great threat that Homeros had identified him as.” Mervamon said with confidence. “I really do doubt that we interpreted the message correctly, but for whatever reason, Homeros went silent about a year ago. Those three words were the only thing he was able to tell us.”

“15 minutes until the match. Let’s hope Tai can end this soon.” Rei looked into the distance.

“Why does Neo’s place need to be so far away!” Tai sprinted as fast as he could.

He swerved around a corner and saw the house in the distance.

“I’m coming for your rumpuses, Olympos!” Tai took out his device and looked to find Zero ready for a fight.

The device pinged again, and he put it up to his ear.

“Mega. Vaccine. Galaxy. GraceNovamon.” The device whispered.

Tai lowered the device and sped up.

“Why would you ever betray my beloved Jupitermon?” Junomon and Neptunemon fenced with their spears.

“All I ever wanted was an underwater palace, and yet we live in this stinking place! So busy protecting the Digital World that we never experience it!” Neptunemon closed his spear’s mouth around Junomon’s lance.

“Homeros gave us those orders himself. We were never meant to peruse the Digital World ourselves, so get over it! It’s certainly not enough to rebel like this!” Junomon lifted Neptunemon's entire body just from their interconnected spears and slammed him into the ground.

“Mad women. You're just too blind to see the truth. You are a slave, we are pawns, and I am sick of it. Dianamon may not follow the rules, but those rules can sink to the bottom of the ocean for all I care.” Neptunemon lifted his body off the floor and was greeted by two spears in front of his neck.

“I have everything I could ever want at Jupitermon’s side. If you don’t appreciate the things you have, then I’ll make you see the light.” Junomon put her and Neptunemon’s lances closer to his neck. “By sending you to the darkness.”

“You are a slave.” Neptunemon announced as the spears dug into his neck.

“I. Am. Free.” She stuck the spears through his neck and crossed them, creating an X. Neptunemon’s head and body hit the floor at the same time, exploding into data.

“Another one down.” Apollomon punched Bacchusmon backwards.

“That would have hurt if I was sober.” Bacchusmon laughed.

“Why would somebody as unfettered as you care about our politics?” Apollomon took a stance as Bacchusmon opened his huge mouth again.

“The Digital World must be full of delicious treasures for me to drink, but certain somebody's refuse to allow us to go down to our world to drink!” Bacchusmon rushed at Apollomon.

“You would let your allies die just for some alcohol? You would betray Ceresmon, who has always been kind and welcoming? How drunk are you? How rotten has your brain become to make you think this was okay?!” Apollomon roared.

“Drunk minds think funny, okay? But I’m confident in this decision. Such a great expanse of land to explore, and yet, we are stuck in this god forsaken blue room with an orb that hurts my eyes.” Bacchusmon pointed at Homeros.

“We shouldn’t have ever made you a member when your mind can only think as far as your mouth.” Apollomon’s hand spiraled with flames.

“Just hurry up and die already! Distilling Poison!” Bacchusmon swirled a liquid around in his mouth before shooting out a stream of poison.

“Sunfire Punch!” Apollomon rushed at Bacchusmon with his fists up, evaporating the poison before it could touch him. He ended up right in front of Bacchusmon and he finally threw his punch.

In a moment of sobriety, Bacchusmon opened his mouth just as the punch would have connected and snapped down on Apollomon’s fist.

“Let go, you drunkard!” Apollomon tried to remove his hand from Bacchusmon’s poison-filled mouth.

Bacchusmon shook his head "no", accidentally causing Apollomon an immense amount of pain. Apollomon finally ripped his hand out, taking a few teeth, and found that purple poison covered the entirety of his forearm.

“Huh, you taste good. Like some steak with barbecue sauce.” Bacchusmon licked his lips.

“Die! Sunfire Punch!” Apollomon sprung his flaming hand forwards but was interrupted by a shoulder slam.

“Thanks for the save, Dianamon.” Bacchusmon nodded at her.

“Don’t thank me yet. Glacial Shaving!” Dianamon drew her sycthe from the top of Bacchusmon’s body to the bottom, cutting him in half.

“W-Why?!” Bacchusmon fell apart, his data flying into her scythe.

“You were too weak to be of use for long. Don’t worry though, I’ll make sure your energy is used efficiently!” Dianamon slashed through what was left of him.

“Has the cold fogged your thoughts to the point that you believe you can take all three of us on?” Apollomon, Jupitermon, and Junomon surrounded her.

“Do you question my power or my will? Either way, I’m more than powerful enough to achieve my goal.” Dianamon flared with energy.

The three Digimon surrounding her sprung forth.

“3 minutes.” Sigma looked at his wristwatch.

“There is no way in heck that Tai is coming back in time.” Neo huffed.

“I guess it's up to us then.” Hideto looked at his two devices.

“How the heck did you become friends with Neo?” Mari and Lily stood behind the two.

“Long long story. To put it simply, never work for him.” Mari remembered Rosemon’s final moments.

“What about you, Tada-Sigma, Sigma.” Carly corrected herself, gaining some stares from others.

“Similar situation. Can’t complain though. I do have friends now.” Sigma smiled. Carly gave him a big hug in agreement.

*Beep Beep*

“Oh god.” Sigma turned to see Carly’s device beeping in her pocket.

“Woah, that’s not good.” X lifted her device, which was new because Matt destroyed her old one, and dropped the drink in her hand. “Bacchusmon! He’s dead!” Her nonchalant look was replaced by terror.

Sigma and Carly exchanged looks. He took her device out from her pocket and shook his head.

“Oh, oh no.” Carly cried into his shoulder. He rested his hand on her back, still looking at the blank device.

“How many more have to die for Dianamon to be happy?” Mervamon asked depressingly. Mari shook her head, just as depressed.

“You!” Everybody turned to XI, II, and I.

“Kamiya’s gone. Give us like, 10 minutes.” Neo grumbled.

“I figured as much. That chicken probably hot footed it overseas.” I accused.

“Hey! Don’t talk about him like that!” Rei pointed at her.

“Make me!” I took a step closer to Rei.

“Calm down you two. Only Tai is fighting someone today.” Izzy held the two away from each other.

I made a brushing motion at Rei before walking off with the other two.

“Only four members of Olympos XII left. Three in the hands of the enemy. Fantastic.” Sora let out a long groan.

“Hold on Digital World, I’ll be there soon!” Tai arrived at Neo's house. He slipped his hand into a pot and retrieved a hidden key that Rei had told him about during his stay in the hospital.

He opened the door and ran in, not really caring that he basically just broke into the house to any onlookers.

He dashed up the stairs, kicked open the door to Neo’s room, managed to restrain the idea of looking for the diary that Rei said he owns, and opened up Neo’s email account.

“Reply! Come on!” Tai held his device up. It turned into a D-1 and wrapped around his arm. He pointed it at the screen and was invited in.

“She’s fast, watch out!” Jupitermon struggled to block her wild swings.

“There are other good things about me, you know. Like being a functioning and respectable leader!” Dianamon slapped him with her scythe.

“You can’t talk, traitor!” Apollomon punched her in the back. She whirled around and swung at him, catching some of his hair.

“No one could respect a hussy like you!” Junomon tried to jab her several times, but Dianamon managed to dodge each thrust.

“And you say you're fit to be Jupitermon’s wife!” Ha-Oh crap!” Dianamon turned around in time to get her face slashed.

“When did you go so far down the path of insanity? I wish I could have kept you away from it.” Jupitermon sounded genuine.

“Like I ever would have accepted your help! Arrow Of Artemis!” Dianamon pulled some of the quills on its back out and aimed at Jupitermon. He raised his sword in defense, but Dianamon quickly turned around and shot the arrows at the unsuspecting Junomon and Apollomon. Both were pinned to the floor by the arrows in their feet.

“Get away from them! Roaring Spark!” The gaps in Jupitermon’s sword shot a whip of electricity at Dianamon. She caught each whip with her scythe and pulled Jupitermon towards her.

You get away from me! Glacial Shaving!” Dianamon swung her glowing scythe at Jupitermon. He let himself get pulled right in front of her and kneed her in the gut.

“A weak mind can never defeat the strength of just-cough!” Jupitermon fell back. He continued to cough uncontrollably as his body shook rapidly.

“Looks like your wound is acting up. Your body can’t handle much more fighting!” Dianamon brought her scythe back to land a fatal blow. She tried to swing forwards but found that something was weighing it down.

“His body may be weakened, but his spirit still flares with power! I won’t let harm befall our leader and friend!” Apollomon slammed one end of the scythe into the floor.

“Please, after what Bacchusmon did to you, you’ll barely be fighting at half strength against me!” Like a metronome, Dianamon threw the free end of the scythe into Apollomon’s chest, making him roar in pain.

“Do you think this will be enough to deter me?” Apollomon squeaked out.

“No. This might work though! Arrow Of Artemis!” Dianamon pulled more quills from her back and aimed them straight at Apollomon’s face.

“Love Basket!” Junomon summoned two walls around Dianamon that tried to crush her. She quickly flew upwards, being forced to end her attack prematurely.

“Why can’t you just stay down, lady?” Dianamon clenched her fists.

“Apollomon is our trusted leader, chosen by Jupitermon himself. If I let him die, I would be disrespecting the two most important members of the Olympos XII.” Junomon rushed at Dianamon, fully aware of the fact that Dianamon could do little without her weapon.

“I won’t falter! I’ll beat you with my fists if I have to! Fahrenheit Zero Out!” Dianamon’s hands were covered in frost as she tried to fist fight Junomon. Each punch shot a small ice ball.

“You won’t be able to hit me like that!” Junomon weaved through the punches and stabbed Dianamon over and over. Dianamon recoiled with each hit, but her superior strength was shining through as Junomon tired.

“Maybe I wasn’t trying to!” Dianamon laughed. Junomon turned to Apollomon and found him encased in ice up to his head.

“Apollomon! Hold on!” Junomon turned around and was met with a cold fist. She hit the floor as Dianamon flew to Apollomon with crazy eyes.

“I’ll be taking this back!” Dianamon ripped her scythe out from the floor and Apollomon’s chest. “And as thanks for holding my scythe, I’ll be taking this.” Dianamon patted Apollomon’s head with the broadside of her scythe before pulling it back.

Jupitermon continued to shiver on the ground, trying his best to regain even the tiniest bit of strength. Junomon felt her face and body going numb as a thin sheet of ice covered it. Apollomon tried to burst into flames to throw off the ice encasing him, but he no longer had the power.

“Glacial Gash!” Dianamon’s scythe lit up with more energy than ever before as she pulled it back. The second she began her swing, Junomon ran in front of Apollomon and threw her hands out, ready for a cold death to envelop her.

*Sink*

The sound of her cold scythe cutting into someone’s armor like a hot knife through butter rang in the ears of only three people, as one person lost his ability to function.

“Dianamon...what will you do if you defeat the three of us? Alone and cold, you will regret killing the few people who could understand you for your power and determination. We never hated you, I never did anyways, but your spirit was too fiery to let you be the leader. You would try to surpass god, and you would die in the process. And I would never want that of any member of the Olympos XII.” Jupitermon stood in front of his beloved wife and his respected friend, Junomon and Apollomon, with a scythe halfway into his side.

“Do you think I haven’t already thought about what comes after? I plan on being the greatest leader of Olympos XII, with forethought being my greatest trait. You were right though, I will become god to protect god.” Dianamon took her scythe out from Jupitermon’s side. He fell back into Junomon’s trembling hands.

“Jupitermon...don’t go…” Junomon held him close. Apollomon broke out of his ice and limped over to them.

“Please, live. For me. Fight and live. Have hope for the future.” Jupitermon’s data fizzled.

“We will, Jupitermon. Thank you.” Apollomon rested his hand on Jupitermon’s shoulder as he wasted away into powerful data that Dianamon happily took into her scythe.

“Fool. Hope alone cannot create a future. Power is just as necessary. Power that I now have!” Dianamon flared with a power reminiscent of Arcadiamon himself.

“Jupitermon…” Junomon held her hands out like he was still there. “You killed him…” Junomon was covered in dark glow.

“I did. It's your turn now! Glacial Shaving!” Dianamon swung right at Junomon’s head, and her scythe bounced off when it landed.

“I...I am going to kill you!” Junomon released a gigantic amount of energy as the glow fully overtook her.

She grew larger with both of her hands being huge spears. Her entire body was covered in gold armor and golden chain mail. Her head wore a crown of sharp thorns.

“Junomon Hysteric Mode! This hasn’t been seen in decades!” Apollomon backed away.

“H-Hysteric Mode? The same mode that slew Titamon on its own?!” Dianamon fled backwards instinctually.

Apollomon and Dianamon looked at Junomon with fear in their eyes.

“Time’s up. Come on.” I, II, and XI walked towards Neo’s group.

“Here they come.” IV watched I walk towards them with malice in each step.

“There’s no way Tai is coming back in time. I guess I really will have to fight her.” Neo stretched.

*Beep Beep*

Two more devices went off.

III and IV took out their devices. IV shook her head at the site, fully aware of what it was going to be, but III looked gobsmacked.

“Jupitermon has passed in battle.” IV solemnly stated.

“Jupitermon…” Mervamon cried silently.

“What about, III? What happened to Junomon?” Hideto and the others waited for an answer.

“Junomon...Digivolved?” She handed her device to Sigma, who still held Carly, and they both looked at it.

“Digivolve complete. Junomon has Digivolved to Junomon Hysteric Mode!” The screen glitched and flickered constantly as Sigma read the message.

“Has Tai come back yet? If he hasn’t, then I’ll hunt you all until then.” I took out her device. II did the same, hiding the strange power she felt from just holding her device.

“Tai has some business to attend to. Business more important than this fight. If you want to battle though, I’d be happy to oblige.” Neo took out his device with a devilish smirk.

“Neo Saiba.” Rage laced I’s words. “You aren’t even a threat to me anymore. Apollomon will bury you and your Greymon.” Neo flinched at the mention of his old partner.

“I’ve grown too, Tulip Una. You’d be a fool to underestimate me.” Neo bounced the device in his hand.

“We’ll see who the fool is. II, let us commence. XI, watch closely.” I and II lined up.

“Hideto, I’ll need your help if I want to defeat these clowns.” Neo looked at his friend. Hideto nodded and connected his two devices.

“If you and your partner are ready, we shall begin.” The two Olympos members put their devices out. A huge crowd gathered, figuring that watching Neo fight was as good as Tai.

“Let’s go! Battle!” Neo and Hideto bumped their devices into the two devices ahead of them.

“Digimon load! Team Hineo! Team Olympos I and II: Apollomon and Di-DI-Dian-D-D-D-D-D…” The devices continued to stutter uncontrollably until the fight was started.

Apollomon appeared on the field with a limp arm and Dianamon looked terrified. AxeKnightmon and Omnimon found that they were allowed to go first despite Dianamon’s speed advantage.

“What the heck is going on?” Sigma and Izzy inspected the field.

“Hurry up and go so we can end this.” I motioned Neo to come at her.

“As you wish, m’lady.” Neo hissed. “Twin Spear!”

AxeKnightmon rushed forwards and thrusted his spear at Apollomon. Without any type of resistance, the spear shot straight through the flaming lion.

“A-Apollomon! What are you…” I’s voice hid her panic.

“Grey Sword!” Omnimon flew at Dianamon and swung his blade down on her. It landed on her shoulder with ease, but did no damage whatsoever.

“Dianamon! Why aren’t you responding?” II pressed several buttons on her device to no avail.

“H-Hold on! Something’s wrong with our Digimon!” I looked at her barely responsive device.

“So you surrender then?” Hideto offered.

“I won’t ever surrender! Die!” I held down a button. Apollomon did nothing.

“What’s happening, Mervamon?” Mari asked her device.

“Our forms when in real world battles are far more complex than the average Digimon. We are sentient and can openly deny orders. From what I can tell, Apollomon and Dianamon are so engrossed in their battle, that neither are capable of participating in this one.” Mervamon started to sweat, completely unsure of what could be taking their focus.

“Dianamon, Glacial Shaving!” Dianamon pointlessly swung her scythe at nothing.

“What is going on…” Neo watched closely.

“Prong Pirouette!” AxeKnightmon spun his lance over and over into Apollomon’s chest with absolutely no issues.

“Garuru Cannon!” Omnimon blasted Apollomon several times, knocking him out of the fight.

“Apollomon! What...How dare you be so weak!” I gripped her device hard enough for cracks to start appearing.

“Dianamon! Attack! Please!” II continued to press buttons with no results.

“Garuru Cannon! Black Javelin!” Hineo fired off their attacks that bounced off Dianamon harmlessly, and yet they were enough to knock her out of the fight.

“The winner of this Digimon battle is: Team Hineo!” The devices announced with staticky voices.

“I...I lost?” I trembled.

“In all fairness, it was barely a battle.” Neo said absentmindedly.

“You. I am going to tear you apart Neo!” I moved to lunge at him when XI caught her.

“Hold on there, I! It’s clear that something funky is going with your guys’ Digimon. Figure it out, I’ll battle for now.” XI let go and I huffed before walking back to II.

“What in god’s name is Dianamon doing?” Mervamon wondered.

“Die!” Junomon caught up to Dianamon in a second and drove her lances through the women’s chest. She slammed into the floor and kept going until large cracks split across.

“If she continues like this, she might pierce god’s realm and enter the Digital World!” Apollomon gripped his chest.

“Get off of me! Arctic Flare!” Dianamon’s entire body shot ice, but did nothing to stop Junomon’s rampage.

“Jupitermon! Jupitermon!” Junomon continued to drill her spears into Dianamon’s chest, widening the cracks under them considerably.

“Junomon! No! You can’t leave this realm unless Homeros allows it!” Apollomon tried to get over to them, but the pain in his arm and chest made him slow.

“Your precious Homeros has given you an order, would you really turn them down?” Dianamon caught Junomon’s two spears for a second. They lit up with electricity reminiscent of Jupitermons before she pulled them both back.

“Welcome Lost!” Junomon plunged her spears through Dianamon, destroying the floor beneath them.

Junomon and Dianamon fell to the ground below them, still connected by her spears. Apollomon jumped after them, pulling himself towards the floor slowly by floating in light rays.

With the open space, Dianamon pushed Junomon off before twirling her scythe rapidly.

“Take this, beast women! Glacial Gash!” Dianamon swung for game again, but her scythe bounced off Junomon’s neck harmlessly.

“Jupitermon!” Junomon slapped Dianamon repeatedly slapped Junomon with her lances until she was in a daze. She then spiked her mercilessly into the ground, creating a fairly large crater.

“Just how much did she love that man-Woah!” Dianamon barely blocked the two spears now hovering over her neck.

“Jupitermon!” Junomon wailed.

“I know his name, christ! Shut up!” Dianamon threw Junomon off before jumping out of the crater. Junomon followed her and thrusted her spears at Dianamon sloppily, making them easy to dodge.

“Jupitermon!” Junomon continued to scream.

“I...just...ow...need to...ah...tire you out!” Dianamon dodged several fatal blows by a hair as Junomon attacked faster than ever before.

“Jupitermon!” Junomon made an extra sloppy attack, allowing Dianamon to dodge back very far.

“I’ll put you to sleep! Goodnight Moon!” The large leg guards that Dianamon wore started to glow with a calming light.

“No you don’t!” Apollomon wrapped his arm around Dianamon’s neck, stopping her attack.

“What are you doing?! Let go!” Dianamon struggled, but Apollomon wasn’t going to let go.

“Junomon! Go now! Kill her while I’m holding her!” Apollomon ordered.

“But she’ll kill you too! What type of leader would throw their lives away to defeat one person?” Dianamon scratched at Apollomon’s arm.

“I am Apollomon, the leader of the Olympos XII! I will not allow evil to rule this world! If I must lay down my life, then so be it! Go, Junomon!” Apollomon crushed Dianamon’s neck.

“Welcome Lost!” Junomon jetted forwards and sunk her two spears into Dianamon’s body hard enough for them to pierce straight through and enter Apollomons.

She pulled them out slowly. Dianamon fell forwards while Apollomon fell backwards, managing to catch himself in a crouching position. He held his chest.

Junomon moved to his side and they both stared at the lifeless body of Dianamon in front of them. Junomon quickly reverted back into her normal form, completely drained of energy.

“Are you okay, Apollomon?” She held him closely.

“Yeah. Thank you.” Apollomon continued to stare at Dianamon.

All of a sudden, the fourth surviving member of Olympos XII walked over to them.

“H-hey guys. Looks like things have ended. Well, I’m probably going to go. Hopefully, we’ll never see each other again. That would be awkward.” Vulcanusmon poked Dianamon with a long staff.

“Vulcanusmon! You can’t just leave!” Apollomon barked.

“Who’s going to stop me?” Vulcanusmon shrugged and turned to walk away when a scythe flew through his helmet and straight into his head.

“Don’t think you can run, maggot!” Dianamon helped herself up from the ground using her scythe that was now firmly in Vulcanusmon’s head.

“D-Dianamon! I made your scythe, and this is how you repay me?” Vulcanusmon fell to his knees.

“You should never accept credit payments on weapons. They might get turned against you before your client pays!” Dianamon cut Vulcanusmon in half, killing him and taking his data.

“D-Dianamon.” Apollomon protectively stood over Junomon.

“A goddess. That is what I want to be. To rule the heavens with an iron fist and perfect mind. To be the only one Homeros needs. For that, I need you, Apollomon.” Dianamon limped over to them, somewhat reinvigorated by Vulcanusmon’s lackluster energy.

"Stay away, witch." Junomon pushed Apollomon away and held her spear up.

"You all fared better than I expected. You should be very proud of yourselves." Dianamon raised his scythe high.

Apollomon closed his eyes as Junomon let out one last message.

"I'm coming, Jupitermon."

Apollomon opened his eyes to find Dianamon hanging over him.

"Just hurry up and kill me." He growled.

"You're too important for that. I always respected how strong you were, even if your weak-minded pride would get in the way of it.” Dianamon raised his head with her hand.

“I will never give you my strength.” Apollomon lowered his head defiantly.

“Not willingly anyways. You see, taking your power but not your mind would be incredible for little ol’ me. To the point that I believe I could become a goddess.” Dianamon grinned.

“What are you planning?” Apollomon watched her pace around.

“Do you know what a Jogress is?” She smiled.

“Vulcanusmon, use Blacksmith’s Blade!” XI moved to press a button when her device beeped and the white glow surrounded the field.

“The winner of this Digimon battle is: Neo Saiba! Forfeit by opponent!” The devices announced.

“What?” XI looked at her device and let out a gasp.

“He died, didn’t he?” Neo asked bluntly.

“H-how?” Her hands shook.

“Long story, but to cut it short, you guys got played by a bunch of really strong Digimon. Now take off that stupid mask and join the others.” Neo walked past her. She followed his instruction.

“N-Neo.” I still gripped her device tightly.

“You ready, Ariana?” Neo gave her a smug look.

“Neo, I hate you with every single fiber of my being. You will pay for defeating all those years ago!” Ariana put her fists up.

“Come get me then!” He smacked his chest.

“Jogress Evolution acquired!” II’s device shouted. I whirled around and ran to her.

“What did he say?!” She looked at her device.

“Dianamon reached a Jogress with Apollomon! No wonder our Digimon were acting so funny, they were still processing their Jogress!” II excitedly explained. I ripped the device out from her hands.

“A Jogress! That’s exactly what I needed to defeat Neo and Tai!” She looked at her two devices.

“What about me?” II pointed at herself.

“I don’t need you anymore. Evidently, I never needed any of you weaklings.” I looked at the former members of the Tulip Twelve.

“Just hurry up so we can fight.” Neo walked closer to her.

“Right. Apollomon, Dianamon, Jogress!” I linked the two devices together.

“With Jupitermon’s strength, I can forcibly meld your data with mine and come out as the master of the body!” Dianamon cackled.

“That’s insane!” Apollomon tried to move, but his body was still too weak.

“I don’t care! I’ll protect Homeros all by myself!” Dianamon placed her hands on Apollomon’s face and he roared in pain as his data coursed into her body.

A huge pillar of blue and orange light shot into the air.

“Come on, Zero! We’re running out of time!” Tai rested on Zero’s back as he flew towards the pillar. His great yellow cape was flowing insanely.

“What the heck are they doing?” Zero was temporarily blinded by the pillar’s light.

“Something only the 100% combo can deal with!” Tai said like he was trying to reassure himself.

“What the heck do two God Man Digimon turn into?” Sora and the others watched sparks fly out of the two devices in I’s hands.

“I don’t know.” Mervamon answered. “Nothing good though.”

“The Ultimate-no-the Mega creature that shall rule over all Tamers is in my hands! You shall experience hell itself! No one-”

“And I thought you were dramatic.” Marge laughed as Wendy let out a cough.

“The heck did I ever do to her to make her this maniacal?!” Neo put out a small flame on his shirt before it could spread. The sparks coming from the devices only came out more frequently.

“Didn’t losing to Tai make you insane?” Hideto reminded.

“Yeah, but this is different...I guess it's not actually.” Neo rubbed his chin.

“Ariana, this is crazy! Those things are getting dangerous! Just put them down so we can talk!” Mari pleaded desperately.

Wind started to curl into the devices, pushing everyone forwards.

“God! Make me god!” Dianamon commanded from within the light. Her form started to change.

“We’re almost there!” Tai and Zero continued to fly towards it.

“Apollomon and Dianamon! Jogress to…” I bellowed.

“I shall become the one and only!” Dianamon cried.

“What the heck is going on?!” Tai watched the pillar disperse into the area around them in a great explosion.

“Here it comes!” Sigma backed away as the devices let out a huge glow that blinded the entire crowd of onlooking Tamers.

“I have become…” Dianamon whispered.

“The most powerful being alive…” I let out a menacing laugh.

“That thing...that must be what my device warned me about!” Tai stared at the figure.

Dianamon, Olympos I, and Tai all identified at the same time-

“GraceNovamon!”

To be continued.

Notes:

Hmm, that nightmare at the beginning though. I wonder where all of Tai's problems are going to lead him...doesn't matter right now.

Next up is the triumphant battle against the ultimate baddy. None other than GraceNovamon!

This is coming way out of left field, but Ten'ya Yabuno-the person who made several of the designs for the Digimon in the V-Tamer Manga, such as Zero and Arcadiamon's evolution lines-is currently helping with the character designs of Digimon Ghost Game. Does this mean that they'll make a V-Tamer anime any time soon? No freaking clue. I can always hope though :)
