Onyx wasn't expecting to be on a Discord call so late at night, but she couldn't ignore the gentle sobs of her girlfriend on the other line. The cry was full of hopelessness and grief, a strangled sound that Onyx was not prepared to deal with. Especially with the lack of cooperation from her partner, Cecilia.
Cecilia refused to turn her camera on, claiming a fucked up face and overall embarrassment. So instead of Onyx being able to see her face, she was stuck staring at an animated icon. Onyx felt her brows pinch together with slight frustration as she restrained herself from speaking too soon. Regardless of her own emotional state, her beloved needed support - that much was obvious. She took calming breaths; partly to stop herself from overthinking the situation, but mostly to be able to process any clues Cecilia threw her way. She needed to understand what the other woman was hiding from her.
A slight pause in the torrent of cries prompted Onyx to speak up. "Hey," she started gently, her brow furrowing into a deeper crease in an attempt to sound soothing, "Cece, baby, I need you to talk to me."
Silence persisted for a moment. Slightly muffled hiccups could be heard from Cecilia, hinting that the younger woman was attempting to conceal her emotions.
Quite futile at this point, Onyx thought, trying to hide. We need to talk about that though. The habit needs to break.
"Hey, sorry, yeah. I'm here," a small voice called out, followed by equally quiet shuffling.
A small loading symbol encompassed the profile icon on the screen. The happy, animated character was replaced with a forlorn looking woman sitting on the floor of a bedroom. Her body was curled up into itself, and the large hoodie across her shoulders truly gave the impression that Cecilia wanted to hide.
She's swimming in that thing, Onyx distractedly mused, how cute...
The previously violent cries dissolved into faint sniffles as Cecilia finally gazed at the camera. From there, Onyx could finally see the damage the tears had done to the once smiling face. The woman's eyes were bloodshot and red, dark splotches highlighting the bags underneath. Cecilia fingers had retreated into the sleeves of the oversized hoodie. Occasionally one or two fingers poked out to adjust the camera angle.
The two said nothing.
Onyx waited patiently for Cecilia to continue, and after another minute of both women sitting in silence, Onyx noticed Cecilia's breathing return to normal. Her eyes remained damp, but the downpour had lessened to a slight drizzle. It was progress at the very least. Cecilia met Onyx's eye through the screen, and Onyx allowed herself a small grin that fixed itself to her face. Cecilia gave a laugh without humor, and asked, "What are you smiling about?"
The tone was almost accusatory, but slightly playful. Cecilia tilted her head and gave a more sincere chuckle after Onyx grinned comically wide.
"You know," Onyx started, studying the more relaxed expression on her partner, "even with a...what did you call it... 'fucked up face', you still look as beautiful as ever."
Onyx fully expected a shy or flustered response to the flirtatious remark, as per usual. In fact, the older woman kept the grin on her face in anticipation for an awkward reaction from Cecilia. A drawn out, bashful "stop~" or something equally adorable.
That was not the case.
Onyx could feel misery seeping through the pixelated screen, and it gave her goosebumps - the bad kind. Cecilia's sobs cut in and out because of the poor connection, but the message was clear: she needed Onyx's comfort. With her face buried between her knees, Cecilia kept herself hidden from her girlfriend's alarmed eyes at the unexpected outburst.
Tiredness hung under Onyx's eyes as she listened to her beloved become wracked with sobs once more. Onyx stared at her phone, repressing a loud sigh to avoid making the situation worse. Cecilia looked like a wounded dog, whining without abandon. She could do nothing but watch as Cecilia wrapped her arms around herself in a cocoon, the woman still swimming in her hoodie.
And her own misery.
Onyx glanced at her own video feed in the top corner of the screen, simultaneously seeing and feeling the heavy bags under her eyelids. She had propped herself up on her bed at the beginning of the call, but now she too was hunched over in emotional defeat. Her feet swung restlessly back and forth as she listened to her lover cry. There was nothing she could do so far away.
"I'm coming over Cece."
Momentarily glancing back to the sight of Cecilia in obvious emotional turmoil, her lip curled in disgust. How dare she sit there and do nothing while the most important thing in her life was miserable a mere couple dozen miles away? She swung her feet once more and quickly stood from her bed frame, moving to get her car keys and jacket, resolve settled in her gut. She was going to get that beautiful creature to stop letting out those ugly sounds.
Cecilia let out a noise of protest, which was quickly shushed. Onyx had moved from her room to the front door, and was pulling on her jacket while she insisted that she was going to be at Cecilia's front door in less than half an hour, even if it required running some lights to do it.
---
Onyx had been driving maybe five minutes before Cecilia said anything. The other woman had begged Onyx to stay on Discord with her, even if her camera had to be off.
"I just feel better knowing that you're listening", she had muttered.
"I can't listen to anything if you don't talk, darling," Onyx hastily retorted, tossing her phone into the passenger seat as she climbed into the vehicle. The engine thrummed to life after the key was inserted and wrenched to the side, and Onyx recklessly sped down her street. The familiar path seemed different at midnight. With barely any other cars around, she didn't need to worry so much about her personal safety. "Honey, what's happening to you?", she gently asked, sensing extreme hesitation from her girlfriend.
Cecilia's explanation came down to this: a long term best friend of hers ("And... fucking hell, I've known him since we were kids too-") was being a dick towards other women, leading them on in relationships just to ghost them ("...just like my ex. The bad one).
Onyx's hands clenched around the steering wheel at the mention of the ex-girlfriend who had treated Cecilia horribly in their time together. Onyx stayed silent, understanding dawning on her. Cecilia felt betrayed. It was a relief, to say the least, to finally be able to work with what was going on in Cecilia's mind. That didn't make the situation any better though. Onyx couldn't help but glance worriedly at the phone in her passenger seat when Cecilia grew quiet. She knew it was useless to look as Cecilia had most likely turned her camera off, and Onyx's screen was pointed at the roof of her car. Still, Onyx hoped, somehow, that the girl on the other line could feel her concern.
Sound became limited to the thrum of the engine and the occasional swoosh of a passing car. The sudden lack of cries began to feel unsettling, and Onyx was just about to speak up again when Cecilia's soft whisper punctuated the quietness of the car.
"Can you turn on the radio?"
"Of course," Onyx responded, hand already moving to the dial. A cheery, pop song trickled out through the sound system in the vehicle. It filled the quietness with a happy distraction, painting the picture of a Hollywood life and finding love. It was a welcome distraction. Onyx absently hummed along to the familiar tune. She recognized a landmark that showed she was ten minutes away from her destination.
Onyx almost missed Cecilia's final request because of the loud presence of the bright song.
"Can you...can you sing for me?"
Without hesitation, Onyx followed along with the music as she pushed harder on the gas pedal, her anxious voice mixing with the radio.
---
It had taken too long. But Onyx was finally holding her lover as she continued to absently hum the melody of the song Cecilia had asked for. Her fingers tangled in Cecilia's hair, patiently pushing it out of her face. She snuggled into Onyx's chest, half dried tears on her cheeks. Onyx shifted to look at her forlorn expression - Cecilia was zoned out, contemplating something. Onyx took the opportunity to appreciate the lack of ugly cries, which had quieted in her presence.
Dotting Cecilia's face, droplets of water mingled with freckles. Onyx noticed that one tear was perfectly positioned to magnify a group of small spots. Right as she absently stroked Cecilia's hair again, the two locked eyes. Cecilia gave a soft smile before starting to shake once more. A split second before Cecilia curled into Onyx's chest, a strange look of guilt crossed her eyes.
Onyx held her as she shook. It was the best she could do at the moment. Cecilia was grieving the loss of a friend in a way that no one could repair. But dammit if Onyx was going to try.
It took some time for Cecilia to settle down.
How long had she been working herself up before she called, Onyx couldn't help but wonder.
Onyx stayed cuddled to her side, offering her shoulders, arms, and chest for physical support. Cecilia obliged every time, almost burrowing herself as far as she could into Onyx's embrace. Onyx studied how the other woman's behavior shifted. First Cecilia was like a wounded animal, backing away, howling, trying to hide. But as time stretched on, she stilled. Her instincts had been on fire since the beginning, but Onyx's unwavering, smothering love had brought the blaze to a cooling ember.
The last remaining sniffles pierced the air before the only sound in the room was the steady breathing of both women. Once Onyx recognized the content nature of the atmosphere, she steadily unwrapped her arms from around Cecilia. The other did not complain, but turned with a question in her gaze.
Onyx remained at her side, but made no move to reestablish the contact.
"Feeling better?" Onyx offered with a hopeful look. Cecilia nodded. The guilty look reappeared. Onyx frowned slightly. She made a questioning noise, and Cecilia burrowed her finger back in the sleeves of her oversized hoodie, retreating again.
"Sorry for keeping you up," Cecilia mumbled, shifting in her spot on the bed before glancing back at Onyx nervously.
"Cece-," Onyx soothed, gathering her girlfriend in her arms and lifting her slightly off the mattress. Cecilia let out a small yelp, draping her arms around Onyx's shoulders as she was carried. Onyx struggled at first, teetering like she was going to fall. Cecilia panicked for a second, grasping onto her girlfriend tighter, eyes wide, before Onyx gained control. Cecilia was promptly plopped down only a small distance from where they had started. Onyx laughed at her own overconfidence, saying that she underestimated how much strength that would have required.
Cecilia didn't mind though. The two were content to lay together in their new spots more towards the middle of the bed. Cecilia snuggled back against Onyx's chest, the side of her face resting against Onyx's breasts. She murmured a word of thanks.
Onyx placed two fingers on the underside of her lover's chin and lifted Cecilia's gaze back to her, where it belonged.
"Why are you thanking me sweetheart?" Onyx placed a kiss on her forehead, and cupped Cecilia's face with the other hand "You're never a bother."
Cecilia melted into the touch, and let her own hand fall on top of Onyx's. Her eyes closed as Onyx placed more kisses across her cheeks, kissing every freckle across the bridge of her nose, up the side of her face, and along her jaw.
"You're not a burden baby," Onyx insisted softly, trailing her lips up the side of Cecilia's neck, gently tugging the skin through her teeth to create small red splotches that would turn into beautiful hickeys. Her hands snaked down Cecilia's sides, admiring the soft curves that composed her body. "And I always want to make you feel happy."
Onyx pressed Cecilia into the crook of her neck after a kiss to her cheek, trapping her in an embrace.
"And good."
A kiss to her collarbone.
"And safe."
Another to her suddenly exposed shoulder.
Onyx tugged the sweatshirt off the other girl, first pulling it up from where it touched the waistband of her pants. She held eye contact with Cecilia as she slowly dropped it off the bed. Her own top then followed suit. The two shirts draped across each other on the floor, fabric sliding together. Onyx draped herself over Cecilia in a similar fashion. Their thighs welcomed one another as the two girls got caught up in the sudden closeness.
Onyx lifted Cecilia's hand and kissed the center of her palm saying, "I will always take care of you my dear. You never have to worry."
Cecilia peered up at Onyx with nothing but love in her eyes. Her once tear-streaked cheeks were only tainted by a rosy blush. Her mouth turned upwards in a happy smile, and her eyes closed as Onyx pressed their lips together with a grateful sigh. It looked like bliss. Cecilia opened her eyes again as their mouths separated. She then rested her head back against the mattress, both hands trailing Onyx's back.
Cecilia started, "I love you mm-," but was cut off by another unprompted kiss. Onyx giggled out an apology and asked for Cecilia to continue, sitting back on her heels, away from the other woman.
Cecilia tugged her back down, and wrapped her legs around Onyx's waist. Their chests were lightly pushed together, Onyx's breasts caressing Cecilia's. Onyx looked down at the new connection with a curious smirk, one eyebrow arching.
"Oh?" Onyx teased, falling into Cecilia's touch with an intent to make her girlfriend squirm.
But an uncharacteristic confidence must have overtaken Cecilia in that moment, because she pushed herself further into the touch. Arms draped around Onyx's neck, Cecilia leaned up and finished her sentence.
"I love you my darling~"
Onyx shuddered at the old nickname. Her head tilted down as her body recognized the signs Cecilia was throwing her way.
"Haven't heard that in a while," she mumbled, understanding where this night was going to find her. But she was going to get there her way. Onyx tapped the sides of Cecilia's legs in a silent command. Cecilia unhooked her legs from Onyx's back - very reluctantly. Cecilia pouted as Onyx backed off the bed and stood up near the edge. Cecilia scooted onto the edge of the mattress and let her feet hang over, silently asking what the other was doing.
Onyx sank to her knees. She rested one hand against each of Cecilia's thighs, and although they were covered with fabric, Onyx trailed kissed along the sides of them. She looked up as Cecilia hooked her fingers under the waistband of her pants. The two held eye contact as Cecilia stood up and stripped herself of the fabric on her body, leaving her in a bra and a set of thigh high socks that Onyx had always adored. She wore nothing else.
Temporarily breaking eye contact, Cecilia tossed her discarded clothing away, and then plopped herself back on the edge of the bed. Onyx's hands latched onto her immediately, settling at the base of her ankles. She lowered her head down to the top of Cecilia's socked foot, leaving a light kiss before trailing a line of kisses up her calves, alternating which leg she gave attention to. Onyx continued her trail of kisses upwards. Once Onyx got to the knees, she glanced up. Cecilia was happily smiling, sitting back on her hands, and basking in the attention.
Such soft skin, Onyx mused as she went straight for the top section of her girlfriend's thighs. Her hands started to work themselves into the delicate skin.
Cecilia's thighs were plush. They puffed up anytime she sat down. They made it impossible for her to wear tight pants. They stuck to plastic chairs in the summer. They were always warm. They were Onyx's favorite things.
Cecilia shuddered. Onyx slotted her head between those gorgeous thighs. Cecilia closed her legs around it. Onyx's face was trapped between soft pillows of skin - she was in heaven. The only thing Cecilia heard from her was a contented sigh. After a blissful moment, Onyx slowly allowed Cecilia to spread her legs once more.
Hickies created patterns on the younger woman, a product of Onyx's mindless worship. Still on her knees, she kissed, touched, caressed, and made love to every inch of her girlfriend's thighs. Onyx thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of how Cecilia tensed when she bit a little too hard, or how Cecilia squirmed when she pulled her face back to focus on another area. Onyx took her sweet time, savoring the taste of skin between her teeth. But she eventually addressed the heavy panting coming from Cecilia.
Onyx didn't have to look up. She didn't have to hear the plea. She already knew what Cecilia needed. She could see her desperation dripping onto the bed sheets. She listened anyway. It was her favorite sound.
Her tongue buried between two beautiful thighs, mouth latched onto the throbbing clit, sucking gently, then hard. The squirming creature draped her legs over Onyx's shoulders, head snapping back with a cry. Finally, the cry was one of pleasure not misery. It gave Onyx goosebumps - the good kind.
There would be no rough sex tonight. Cecilia needed to be loved. Praised. Worshiped. Onyx could think of nothing else, would do nothing else. She did what her beloved desired. Onyx crawled into her lap with words of encouragement after Cecilia finished - clit aching with the torment of pleasure. Onyx stripped out of her own clothing. Onyx laid her lover down across the bedspread, praises pouring from her lips. Their bodies latched onto one another, their legs tangled, each desperate for release.
But Onyx made Cecilia the priority. She touched, kissed, and fucked the tension out of her beloved. Her fingers left Cecilia a writhing mess on the mattress. She cuddled Cecilia against her breasts, the younger playfully kissing the tops of each. They giggled as the sexual tension eased out of the room, leaving the two naked and holding each other. Cecilia shivered once, and Onyx draped a warm blanket around her shoulders. Hands locked, they contentedly lay side by side.
"It would be a long drive back…" Onyx thought out loud.
Cecilia whimpered at the thought.
"Stay," she sleepily demanded, "stay and cuddle."
Onyx took in the happy creature nuzzling itself into her chest. It smiled up at her. Onyx brushed a strand of hair out of its face. It reached up and kissed her hand. Onyx was in love.
Onyx wasn't expecting to be staring into her girlfriend's eyes so late at night, but she couldn't ignore the gentle smile in her girlfriend's gaze. The look was full of peace and love, a grateful look that Onyx was not prepared to deal with. Especially with the way it set her face on fire and left her gut twisted.
"Pretty thing," she whispered into Cecilia's ear, voice full of adoration and bliss. Onyx lay with her beloved, content, as the two fell from their orgasmic highs into the waiting arms of sleep.
