Work Text:
William growled in frustration, his hands gripping the wrench hard enough to turn his knuckles white. He was having the worst luck today and the last thing he needed was rain. The steady sounds of droplets falling onto the window however did provide the perfect background noise for William to get lost in his thoughts.
The day had started somewhat uneventfully for the man. The moment he had walked out of his bedroom he had been greeted by the painful noise of his three children. Elizabeth had a bright smile on her face. Her little voice cranked up to a volume William found much too loud for this time of the day. Evan had been crying, like usual, about something that Michael had done. Meanwhile Michael quickly made his presence known by jumping out at Evan. His face being obscured with a Foxy mask he wore when he wanted to have 'fun' with him. It resulted with Evan crying even louder.
William had just left them and walked into the kitchen for some coffee.
Being a Friday, William was now working in Fredbear's Family Diner with his long time friend Henry. It was a rather dull day today with only a few families arriving to see the two animatronics performing. While William had originally loved the diminishing stress from the start of the day, he had quickly grew tired of the emptiness. So he had gone off to the back room and began to work on upgrading the models of the current two characters.
William put down the wrench and stood back to admire his work.
If anyone else looked at the new designs he had made they would simply think that they were to improve the performance of the animatronics. But only William knew the truth. He was designing them to contain people inside of them. Dead people that is.
He had been thinking about this for a while after his first killing of five children in the other restaurant of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. No one had found their bodies in those suits. And he needed to kill more people to gain more Remnant. If he made suits that were specifically designed to store bodies then it would help dispose of the bodies in a less risky way rather than dumping their bodies outside since it would ruin the reputation of Fredbears and Freddys.
He looked back at his work as a cold smile formed on his face.
Yes. This will do.
Although when he gazed out of the window into the poor weather outside, something caught his attention.
An object was falling down through the sky. William could briefly see a blackish colour before it landed on the ground out of site. His gaze slowly moved up to the sky.
Where did that come from?
William left the back room, not before putting on on a warm and relaxed smile, and went to the entrance of the Diner. He passed Henry on the way out. Like always he pretended to be pleased to see him.
Once he was outside he was hit with the full extent of the weather. His clothes were drenched by the amount of rain dropping on the ground. His hair stuck to his head when the droplets made contact with it. He had to force his body to not shake from the sudden difference in temperature.
It took some searching but eventually he found the object.
A Notebook.
William scanned the sky a second time. Where had it fallen from? It couldn't have been from the top of the Diner because he wouldn't have been able to see it fall if it did. His focus returned to the Notebook. It was then when he noticed the words engraved on the cover.
Death Note.
Peaking his interest, William knelt down and picked it up. As soon as his fingers brushed against the cover a chill shot through his body. Not because of the weather. But William couldn't quite place this new feeling. He knew he was the only one outside for the moment.
So why did he suddenly feel nervous?
He inspected the cover before he slowly opened the book. Inside on the back of the cover was a list of rules. William read them.
"The human whose name is written in this note shall die." Was this supposed to be a joke? William wasn't impressed. But he decided to keep reading. "If the cause of death is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack. After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds." If this was supposed to be a joke, it was a very detailed one.
William suddenly got a thought he couldn't discard.
What if this was real? He could kill hundreds of people and easily get enough remnant to become immortal. The police wouldn't have any leads on him. And he wouldn't need to use the animatronics to hide the bodies. But who would he test this Death Note on?
William's Calculating eyes turned towards the Diner.
He knew exactly who.

It had been thirty nine days since Henry had died at the Diner. The autopsy had revealed that he had died of a sudden unexplained heart attack. Charlie had been devastated. She may be young but she was mature enough to understand that she would never see her Father again.
William was ecstatic. Only in private of course but when no one was watching he was laughing crazily. The Death Note worked! And he didn't just stop with Henry. Any loose ends he had, he got rid with the Death Note. He already had almost enough remnant to become immortal.
William sat down in his office with the Death Note in hand. Who should he get rid of next? He could always kill Charlie. A little mercy killing perhaps?
No. He enjoyed watching her suffer. The very though made him chuckle.
"You've taken quite a liking to it." A raspy voice sounded from the back corner of the office. William looked around, surprised to be caught off guard. Had a worker or police officer entered the room? But then he saw the inhuman figure standing before him.
It was tall, wearing what appeared to be a lot of black leather with an inhumanly long face that was stretched into an unholy black grin. It also had black wings sticking out of its back.
William couldn't help but jump out of his seat at the site. Was this a Demon?! Had it come to personally drag his soul to Hell?!
The creature cackled at his reaction. "There's no need to act so surprised. I am the Shinigami Ryuk. What you're holding used to be my Notebook."
William's eyes narrowed at the Shinigami.
"Are you here to kill me."
Ryuk seemed amused. "Why would I be here to do that? I'm not gonna do anything to you." At this William relaxed.
"Well then Shinigami. You're here to take your Notebook back. Right?"
"No." William was caught off guard once again by Ryuk's answer. "As soon as the Notebook touches the Earth it becomes apart of the Human realm. In other words the Notebook now belongs to you."
William gazed at the Death Note in his hands. "Mine?" He could keep it? A sinister grinned formed on his face. He could keep killing with this Notebook. No one would ever find out that he had done it. No one would be able to stop him from reaching immortality.
The grin had made Ryuk uncomfortable. "What are you planning to do, William?" What? He had never told him his name. No matter, he could always ask later.
"What I plan to do is to use this power to grant me the power of immortality!" Ryuk shivered slightly at the harsh tone of voice William was using. Somehow, this human who didn't have the ability to harm him, was making him fear for his life! Him, a Death God! But the Shinigami quickly remembered one of the rules.
"W-Wait. But the rules state that all Humans will die eventually!" All William could do was scoff at that remark.
"Rules were made to be broken. And if you are not my ally. You are my enemy!" William marched closer to Ryuk who recoiled instinctively. It was if he was being yelled at by the Shinigami King! "Although I'll give you one chance. Break it, and I'll toss you aside." The last sentence was said calmly. But even Ryuk knew that he shouldn't cross this Human.
This Human was insane!
William enjoyed the sight of fear on Ryuk's face. With a smirk he left the room with the Shinigami being forced to follow after him.
The only question now was...
What would William do once he reached immortality.

L leaned his head against the sofa cushion as more results of a series of deaths were discussed on the TV screen. Clearly to him these were the signs of murder.
But L knew that catching this new Killer was going to be quite troublesome.
