I hear a knock, that could only mean one thing . . .
Yet another letter from John Laurens . . .
I can feel my heart beating so loudly through my chest while I frantically try to fling myself off the bed I was laying on not too long ago. I try standing and I stumble and trip quite a bit. I scurry towards the door and slowly turn the knob so as not to wake up the others. I practically snatched the letter from outside and made my way into my room. I slowly take off the wax seal so as not to damage it. The thin paper of the envelope is unraveling at my fingertips. I pull out the small piece of parchment and trace my finger along its edges. I begin to read......
I read the first line and almost immediately my heart flutters with delight….
As the months go by, I keep my bed ready and warm for Laurens as he finishes his work in New York. While I'm stuck here waiting all the way in Virginia. The letters slowly lessen, but I wait….
I wait…
I wait..
and I wait.
Another letter never came…
