Chapter Text

Rex met Anakin Skywalker during the Battle of Arantara. His unit hadn’t even been assigned to General Skywalker yet. Rex had gotten separated from the rest of the troops and Anakin came back for him.

A Jedi, a non- clone, came back for him. Told him that he should’ve been the one on the front lines, as if the clones weren’t just cannon fodder for the Republic. In that moment, Rex knew he’d met his other half. They were a dyad, he just knew it. The trouble was Anakin didn’t. Or refused to acknowledge it.

They were deployed to Hisseen along with the rest of the 501st, Cody's 7th Sky Corps, and Commander Wolffe's 104th Battalion. Masters Kenobi and Koon were there as well. The planet was covered in seas of green, waving grass. It was more beautiful than Arantara and Geonosis. Rex thought he would hate desert worlds forever just because of the bad memories associated with the first two planets he went to after leaving Kamino. Still, anything was better than the water world he’d been born on. If I never set foot on Kamino again, I could die happy. Rex wasn’t on Hisseen to sightsee, though. They had to drive the droid army off the planet and, Rex hoped, convince General Skywalker to acknowledge their bond. I need to talk to Cody or Wolffe. His vode would know what to do. They had both found the other halves of their dyads. Even though Rex knew he’d been made for this, it still made his blood sing with the rightness of it whenever he was near General Skywalker. And he wasn’t unattractive, either. Rex thought he could’ve fallen in love with him, regardless. He had hair the color of uj'ayl, a syrup used in uj cake, which Sergeant Kal had given Rex’s squad once. It was the first sweet thing I’d ever had. He wondered if General Skywalker- Anakin- would taste as sweet. He was brave, too. He had mandokarla. He never wanted a clone to do something he wouldn’t do himself and he mourned when they died.

So why doesn’t he want to acknowledge that we are a dyad in the Force?
