All Jason can remember is that one minute he was patrolling with Bruce, and the next a flash of light occured and now he was on a different rooftop with four other people dressed as Robin. He was about to comment about how he was flattered but that they were painting a target on their back by dressing as him, and then he recognized one of them.
Dick Grayson, aged down. The original Boy Wonder looked far more confused and angry at the situation than the others, so it is likely time travel with these other Robins being from later dates than him and Dick. So noticing the other Robins' confusion at Dick's harsh looks (which was odd, if they were from future times, surely they have seen the screaming matches between Dick and Bruce), Jason decided to talk to Dick.
"Hey, umm…" all eyes snapped to Jason, which made him hesitate. (What should he call Dick? No names in the field, and Dick is definitely not considering becoming Nightwing at this point.) "... Dickhead, we are your successors, I suppose, I mean I am at least. Time travel? Dimension travel? Something like that, but don't worry, we're not messing with your family, you actually recently gave me your old suit. I assume a similar arrangement occurred for the others?"
As Jason watched the others, he was surprised to see only one of the other Robins, who he would deem Sword Robin, nodded. Staff Robin seemed to hesitate a bit before nodding, and Blondie Robin only nodded after seeing Dick relax at the other two's confirmation.
Sword Robin then responded, "Yes, I know all of you, I assume Brown and Drake do not know me, but at least have some idea of you two," Blondie Robin and Staff Robin, (apparently Brown and Drake) confirmed this, to which Sword Robin continued, "then yes Todd, you actually formed a coherent thought, this is more likely to be time travel, however we could also be from different dimensions with similar timelines."
Jason, ignoring the insult laced in that statement, just smiled and said, "Batman always said I was good at that stuff! He even told me that he thinks I could be better than him one day!" This statement caused Brown to furrow her brows in thought. But it seemed to make Drake and Sword Robin recoil.
Drake was so shocked, in fact, that he exclaimed, "Batman never said that! He said you were too reckless for your own good!" And with those words, Jason's world came crashing down.
Drake's outburst seemed to shock the others as well. Dick seemed to be stewing in righteous fury, Brown punched him in the face yelling "What the fuck, Tim! What the fuck is wrong with you!?"
Sword Robin decided to bite back, "Reckless!? Reckless!? I mean, sure Todd can be a bit trigger-happy," (wait, 'trigger-happy'? Like he uses guns , trigger-happy?! Sure Bruce taught him how to shoot and Jason was pretty good at it, but he couldn't imagine himself using a weapon that Bruce hates.) "But, unlike you, who goes on a fruitless search for a dead man, leaving Grayson and me to protect Gotham on our own, Todd planned everything he did out, I am no fan of Jason Todd, but even I can admit that he is one of the Greatest Master Fighters of All Time, easily surpassing father, and being tied for second with Grayson with only the 'One-who-is-all' being better than him."
And wow , a lot to unpack in those statements. Bruce tells Tim that Jason was "too reckless," so Jason and Bruce likely had a falling out, much like Dick and Bruce. Then, Tim's "search for a dead man," "leaving Grayson and me to protect Gotham on our own," so Bruce dies… Well, that makes more sense why he is "trigger-happy," after all, if anyone took Bruce from this world, he would do nothing but search the planet for that pathetic excuse for a person, and send them off to hell.
Tim now looked confused, "You say that like yo-" and in a blinding flash of light, Jason appeared at the Batcave, where Bruce had every search program on the Batcomputer going, with Batgirl and Nightwing on the line and the Justice League on standby. Bruce suddenly turned and ran to Jason hugging him tightly. And as Jason made himself comfortable in his father's arms, he knew, that whatever occurred, Jason would never abandon Bruce, he would do anything to ensure that a future where he and Bruce aren't close, where Bruce is dead and Jason becomes a killer, where Bruce apparently badmouths him to his future kids, he would do everything in his power to ensure that would never pass.
Then, the following week, Batman and Robin investigated a serial rapist with diplomatic immunity named Felipe Garzonas. And Bruce thought he was a killer. So he went off in search of his birth mother, knowing he would come back in a week at most, when things cooled off and Jason could prove his innocence. Jason was buried at the end of that week.
