Chapter Text
Yuki was really hoping it could just be a normal day.
Well, not normal, pre say. Yuki knew from the moment he looked at the calendar- and accidentally spit out his drink -that today was not going to be his typical day.
Honestly, he had thought that it was a typical day until he saw that calendar. It was in plain sight, there was no avoiding it.
But he was hoping for a normal day anyway. As normal as his birthday could be.
Yuki imagined what the day could be like as he ate his breakfast. A few happy birthdays from his friends, and maybe a small cake. He could spend time with Sora as well, that would be a good birthday.
He finished his breakfast and prepared to go outside, humming a small tune.
And a very loud knock came from his door as he was putting his coat on.
The lucky student froze in place, staring at the door. He quickly and mentally went through all the people who usually knocked on his door and easily matched up the knock with its owner, and a small sigh escaped him.
He really should have expected him to show up, especially on today of all days.
Deciding it would be rude to leave him waiting any longer, Yuki finished up with his coat and quickly rushed to the door, opening it up.
"Hey Shin-"
"YUKI!!!"
Yuki barely had time to greet Shinji when he was pulled out of his dorm, stumbling a bit at the sudden acceleration.
Shinji was beaming at Yuki, clearly in a very good mood. "Yuki! Happy birthday, little bro!!"
It took Yuki a minute to register Shinji's comment, since his head was ringing from suddenly being pulled out of his dorm. When he did, his embarrassed and caught-off guard expression appeared on his face. "Oh, uh, thank you!"
"No need to thank me!" Shinji said. "It's common for people to say 'happy birthday' on someone's birthday!"
"Oh, A-Alright then!" Yuki stuttered, still embarrassed from Shinji's loud birthday call. "What are you doing here!"
Shinji reached over and grabbed Yuki's arm. "We're gonna do some birthday training!! For preferably a few hours!"
"What?" Yuki asked. "Training now? And for a few hours?"
"Yep!" Shinji affirmed. "Let's get started right now! Right this minute! To get you out of your dorm!"
Yuki knew better than to complain right now, but when he said that he wanted his birthday to be normal, he did not mean this normal.
Nonetheless, Yuki somewhat regretfully nodded his head. "Well, alright... can you go easy on me? It's my birthday after all!"
"Just because it's your birthday doesn't mean any excuse to slack off on training!" Shinji pointed out loudly. "Now let's go!! First things first, ten laps around the soccer field! The one away from the dorms!"
Internally, Yuki wondered why Shinji had such a fixation on getting him away from his dorm room, or just the dorms in general.
Externally, Shinji dragged him down the stairs and out of the dorm building, beginning to take the lead in their running towards the soccer field.
Yuki fought to keep up with Shinji as they ran. Sure, Yuki was a lot stronger than when they had first started training together months ago. However, he still had a long way to go before he could keep up with Shinji for long periods of time.
Plus, he had literally just woken up maybe an hour or two ago. That definitely affected his performance a little bit.
As Shinji and Yuki ran away to get to the soccer field, only Yuki was unaware of the albino hiding by the side of the dorm building, watching the two leave. She smiled, typed out a quick text on her phone, and then entered the dorm building, heading for Yuki's dorm.
Yuki felt like he was going to collapse.
So much for "going easy on him" because of his birthday.
Just like Shinji had insisted, the training had gone on for a few hours at this point. Yuki was pretty sure it was longer than their normal training sessions as well.
Then again, he barely had any concept of time anymore. He was too exhausted from all this training.
"C'MON YUKI!! JUST FIVE MORE, YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!!" Shinji yelled as he hovered over the ever-suffering Yuki, who was trying his best to do pushups on the ground.
Yuki heard Shinji's encouragement, but at the same time he didn't hear it. He was too focused on completing this dang set of pushups then paying attention to the words that Shinji said. All he really knew was that Shinji had spoken.
"Forty-eight... Forty-nine... Fifty!" Yuki grunted, then promptly fell onto the grass after he finished.
"GREAT JOB YUKI! YOU DID IT!!" Shinji shouted upon his completion of the pushups.
Yuki didn't answer Shinji, and instead opted to just lay on the grass and catch his breath. He heard shuffling sounds as well, which meant that Shinji had sat down next to him.
Shinji gently picked Yuki up and led him to lean against him, and then handed him a bottle of water. "Here you go, you deserve it!"
The lucky student accepted the water gratefully and chugged it down, and the water helped refresh his exhausted body a lot. "Thanks Shinji. I needed that. A lot."
"No problem, little bro! It's important to stay hydrated after all that training! It's healthy for your body!" Shinji responded, taking a drink of his own water bottle as he spoke.
"You sound like Hajime..." Yuki said with a small laugh. "But thanks again."
With some effort, Yuki hoisted himself up. "I'm going to head back to my dorm now for some rest, I can't physically take any more training."
"Wait!" Shinji responded instantly. "Let's not go to your dorm just yet. There's still things that we can do together that doesn't involve training!"
Yuki raised an eyebrow. "Okay, what's with you? You've prevented me from coming back to my dorm all day."
"Oh, uh, there's no reason! It's just not good for you to spend the entire day in your dorm!" Shinji made up the excuse quickly, stuttering over his first few words. He was never good at speaking under pressure.
All this accomplished was making Yuki even more suspicious. "Are you sure?"
"Y-Yep!"
Yuki rolled his eyes, but he decided to trust Shinji for now. "Alright, then what should we-"
He was cut off by a loud notification from Shinji's phone, who took one look and his face turned relieved. "Change of plans! Let's head back to your dorm!"
Yuki stared at him like he had three heads. "You were just preventing me from heading back to my dorm, but now you want to-"
"I know it's hypocritical! But seriously, let's head back!" Shinji got up and walked over to Yuki, placing his arm around Yuki's shoulders and leaving him away. You deserve a good rest after all!"
Utterly confused at the logic that was happening right now, Yuki didn't have any choice but to follow.
It took them longer to return to the dorms since they were walking instead of running, but they made it in good time and headed up to Yuki's dorm room.
Yuki placed a hand on the doorknob, then turned to look at Shinji again. "Are you sure you want me to-"
"Of course! Open the door, Yuki!" Shinji responded in his usual confident manner, though Yuki thought he detected a bit of nervousness in there too.
Whatever that was, Yuki shook it off and opened the door, stepping inside the room. "What in the-?"
"SURPRISE!"
Yuki stumbled back in shock, then he broke out in a smile.
His dorm room was decorated in brightly colored party decorations, and on the table was a feast. There was even a cake sitting there and presents sitting in a heap next to the table. And in the room was his class, all smiling and happy.
"Guys! You didn't have to do this!" Yuki said, shocked into laughing.
"Of course we did." Sora said, walking up to stand next to Yuki. "It's your birthday, we couldn't do anything different."
She reached up and gave Yuki a kiss on the cheek, causing him to blush, then smiled at Shinji. "Thanks Shinji, that helped a lot."
"N-N-No problem!" Shinji stuttered out, his face lighting up in blush at Sora addressing him.
"So that's why you didn't want me to go into my dorm!" Yuki exclaimed. "So everyone could set this up!"
"We couldn't have your birthday surprise ruined, could we?" Sora asked as she gave Yuki another kiss. "Let's go enjoy your party."
