Work Text:
Ray didn't know how long he'd been crying at this point. He didn't care either. It was all his fault. If he had just pressed her for more information, she'd be here with them.
They made it to the human world but at a huge price. Emma's life. She had slipped a note into Phil's hand apologizing to them for lying.
Everyone was devastated.
The Ratri clan found them and took them in. They took care of all the legal things (Making birth certificates, last names etc.) and gave them a large manor to live in. As happy as everyone knew they should be, the loss of Emma was affecting all of them.
Even so they still tried to have fun and spend time together, just she'd want to. But it still hurt and during the night they'd break.
Ray took it the hardest. Once they assigned everyone new rooms Ray has only been laying in his bed, drowning in misery. He didn't have the energy to do anything.
Ray knew he should get up and spend time with everyone else, stop making them worry, but he was just so tired. He knew he was being selfish, he wasn't the only one Emma's death was affecting. He could hear their cries at night for their fallen friend.
Damnit! He should have been more perceptive. He promised he'd protect her! He failed! Was that all he was good for!? Failing to protect the ones he cared about?
His siblings were all obviously worried about him. Gilda would come and give him food that he didn't have the energy to eat. Norman would come in and sit with him. They'd talk sometimes but Norman pushed it, which Ray appreciated. Other times when Ray couldn't hold in Norman hug him and let Ray cry. Jemmina, Phil and his other siblings visited a lot asking him to come play. Though Ray usually turned them down.
Eventually, Gilda and Norman got tired of his shit and dragged him out of his room.
Norman, Don, and Zack forced him to take a shower, and Gilda made sure he ate something.
"Ray, you need to take care of yourself, we care about you, you need to care about yourself too." Gilda hesitated for a moment. "...She'd want you to live your best life."
"I know it just… hurts so much" Ray hated the way his voice cracked
Norman pulled him in a hug "I know, it hurts all of us, but you're not alone in this. We're all in This together so stop trying to shut everyone out."
Ray didn't respond but Norman knew his words hit him.
Ray started to believe that he and Emma were bound by fate. They'd been through so much together. She dodged death so many times he believed that they were destined to stay by each other's side.
What a cruel joke fate is.
