Work Text:

As the months went by and buildings were finished, Hermitcraft Season 8 came to a close. Everyone started on personal projects that came and went. Many people started hardcore series; others started normal lets plays. But everyone rushed to the Minecraft family’s side when they discovered that Technoblade had died.

It was a shock to everyone. Sure, most of the family was immortal, but that didn’t stop it from hurting as much as it did. They never expected that Techno, a fierce warrior, would go so soon. But that’s how it was, and that’s how it was going to be.

-

When Techno opened his eyes, he was greeted with a flash of bright light. When his vision returned to him, he saw a figure slightly smaller than himself, Purpled.

“Hi Techno,” He said, looking at him. The boy’s eyes were red and puffy, making it clear that he’d been crying.

“Hi, Purp,” He responded. Techno knew that he had died, he knew that Purpled was the Grim Reaper, but he didn’t know that his death would have such an effect on him.

“You know, I didn’t know that I’d be taking you to the Underworld so soon. I always thought that I’d be taking you from a great and glorious battle somewhere, destroying an oppressive government,” Purpled said, his voice cracking slightly.

Purpled started walking towards a bright light, a portal, gesturing for Techno to follow him. “You know after DreamXD was stripped of his power, Aunt Kristen didn’t know what to do with the position of God of War,” he said.

Techno looked at him with curiosity.

“She told me that she never had to do such a thing in her time as head of the Pantheon. She reviewed old scripts and consulted the souls of gods before her. But she ultimately concluded that she would pass the role to the person she thought best fit the role of War God,” Purpled said, looking back at Techno. “She passed it on to you and looking at your outfit now, I think you might be the God of Medicine as well,”

Techno looked at his outfit. Though the reds, blacks, and whites were still there, they were accompanied by the soothing blues and mints commonly associated with medicine. Techno smiled at the change and continued to move towards their goal.

They were close to the portal now, and when they were right in front of it, Purpled stopped. “When you step through this portal, Aunt Kristen will give you a choice, to truly pass on or to be reincarnated into your immortal form. Don’t let our presence sway your decision, it is your choice and your choice only,” Purpled said.

Before stepping through the portal, Purpled hesitated and wrapped Techno into a hug. “I wished I spent more time with you,” He said, sobs taking control of his voice.

Techno was taken aback by this sudden display of affection from Purpled, he wasn’t one who displayed it often.

Techno wrapped his arms around his young cousin and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve already made my decision.”

Purpled looked up at Techno and smiled. With that, they stepped into the portal.

-

The other side of the portal was much darker than the dimension they were previously in. After all, the Underworld is a very dark place, filled with the souls of those who have spent all the time they had in the living dimensions.

Soon they arrived that Kristen’s office, a grand room covered in shelves of pictures of her family, books documenting the many millennia of the pantheon, and the many papers that allowed for the Underworld to function as well as it does.

When the door opened, Techno was immediately swarmed with the hugs of his immortal family. The three immortal Minecrafts started crying, bringing Techno close to tears himself.

When they let go, Kristen whipped the tears from her eyes and looked at her son. “I expect Purpled already told you about your Godly rolls?” She asked.

Techno nodded.

“Good,” she said. Kristen turned and walked to her desk, picking up a piece of paper. “So, usually, I would take this time to tell you about your roles as a God and would help teach you about what your powers are as the God of War and Medicine. But I wanted to give you a choice,”

Kristen turned toward Techno and asked, “Would you rather pass completely and live here in the Underworld, or be reincarnated into your godly form?”

Techno took a second to think about it before he answered. “Do you really think you’re getting rid of me that easily?” Techno said, grinning. The four gods in the room instantly hugged the Piglin hybrid, tears of happiness consuming them.

Techno laughed, his smile growing wider. “I have one thing though,” He said.

“It better not be you changing your mind, Techno,” Tommy said.

Phil lightly hit Tommy’s arm, saying, “He wouldn’t be saying that if he was,”

Tommy gave his father an exaggerated frown before looking back at Techno, who rolled his eyes.

“I wanted to ask where’s Wilbur, Tubbo, and Ranboo?” he said.

“Wilbur couldn’t come since he’s a mortal, and Ranboo and Tubbo had to make sure night and day went as normal,” Phil said. “Ranboo and Tubbo wanted to come but knowing the Hermits night and day might be funky. They wanted you to join the Pantheon if you turned out to be a God,”

“Well, they turned out to be right, didn’t they?”

“Yeah, yeah, let’s go back to the Overworld now,”

-

And just like that, he was back on the HSMP season 9 server in the middle of the community farms. When Joe saw him, he couldn’t believe it. He thought his mind was playing a trick on him. When Techno had died and didn’t respawn, he had pushed what that meant to the back of his mind. As the God of Philosophy, he had to be as ready as possible to give advice that becomes worth more and more as time goes on. But for this, he had nothing good to say.

Joe took a step toward the familiar figure. “Techno?” Joe asked.

The figure turned around and there he was. Techno was back, with his snarky nature and bright smile, and Joe couldn’t be more grateful.

-

Then there was the return of the ‘introduction’ campfire at spawn. At the beginning of the season, five people joined the ranks of the first official season of the Hermit SMP, though it was technically the 9th. Eryn, Aimsey, BoomerNA, Seapeekay, and TinaKitten all joined and helped the hermits in their projects, while also developing their own.

But this one was different; it was the reintroduction of an existing member.

-

“So, an explanation should be given to what happened,” Techno said. He looked around at the faces of his fellow server mates. Many of their eyes were red, an effect of the tears of happiness that occurred when many of them saw him again.

“When I died,” Techno said, putting quotes around ‘died.’ “I was asleep and when I woke up Purpled guided me into the Underworld, where I met my mom. She gave me a decision, to pass on fully, or reincarnate as a God. I chose to become a God, I didn’t want you guys to think you would lose me forever, now, did I?”

Ranboo, Tubbo, and Wilbur immediately wrapped Techno into a hug. “We’re just happy you’re back,” Wilbur said.

“The God of Medicine and War never dies,”

A soft smile graced Techno’s face. He was grateful for the people around him and he was grateful that he wasn’t leaving them soon.

Notes:

My written testament to Techno. He isn't leaving my writing anytime soon. We may not reach a sense of normalcy again, but at least Techno's legacy will live on through us. I hope you enjoy this everyone.
