It was quite peaceful, sitting here by the shore, dipping your feet in the water, the moon shining down on you from up in the night sky.
Gem could understand why Pearl loved to stay out here, late into the night, even if she wasn't quite a night owl herself.
Speaking of the other, she sat next to Gem, leaning ever so slightly on the deer hybrid and wrapping a wing around her.
Right now, framed by the moonlight, Pearl seemed to glow.
Her blond bangs and highlights seemed to give off a dull light, her normally lilac wings shining a blueish-silver, and stars danced in her eyes (literally. Gem could see the flecks of gold that floated around in her eyes.)
A small smile landed itself on Gem's face as she looked at the brunette. This place was special to Pearl, she hadn't shared it with anyone else. Not even Grian, who was practically her brother.
And yet she chose to share it with me.
Pearl chose to share it with Gem, of all people. That meant something.
If she didn't know any better, she would have thought Pearl like-liked her.
But, of course, Pearl was a fellow aroace, she had no romantic intentions.
Still, Gem's heart warmed at the thought of sharing something this special with the other.
An idea came to her. It was rash, really, a spur of the moment thought. But there was always a possibility...
"Hey Pearl?" She whispered.
Pearl snapped out of the trance-like state she had been in, turning her head towards the deer hybrid. "Yeah?"
Gem hesitated, chewing her lip nervously. "Um..."
"Do you want to get married?" She blurted.
Pearl stared at her. A few heartbeats of silence passed between them.
"I thought you were aroace as well Gem."
Gem flushed beet red with embarrassment, waving her hands around frantically as she tried to explain herself.
"Nonononono not like tHAT-"
Pearl burst out laughing, clutching her stomach. No, laughing wasn't the right word here. Cackling. Pearl was cackling.
Gem's face only got redder as she buried her head in her hands.
"Gem-" Pearl managed to form threw her wheezing. "I-"
She coughed, trying to calm herself and breath normally again.
Gem looked back up at Pearl, vibrant green eyes barely visible past the tumbles of long red-orange hair that had long since been taken out of its usual braid.
"Are you done laughing at me now?" She grumbled, glaring and trying her best to look intimidating. In actuality it did the opposite, because, if you asked Pearl, it only made her look more adorable.
The brunette chuckled, "Yeah. Anyway, I get what you were trying to say Gem."
The redhead blinked.
"Oh."
The only response she got from Pearl was a snort.
"Soooooo." Gem started, "How do you feel about it?"
The brunette smiled softly, "I think it's a great idea, honestly."
Gem looked up hopefully, eyes shining. "You do?"
"Yeah, I do." Pearl replied, nodding.
"So you're really on board with this?" She asked, wanting to be absolutely positive of what Pearl wanted.
"Yes Gem. I want to get married."
The deer hybrid grinned.
"So it's official then, right? Should we start making plans? How are we going to tell the others? How would the wedding even go? Where would it be? When would it be held?-"
Pearl cut off her rambling, placing one finger over her lips and shushing her.
"Yes, it's official. We can worry about those other things tomorrow, after you get some sleep. And don't try to argue, I can see you practically drooping with tiredness over there."
Well, she was pretty tired... Still...
"What about you?" Gem countered, "You need sleep as well."
The brunette shook her head, "I'm a Watcher, Gem. We don't need sleep like other creatures."
"And no," She added with a light laugh, "I'm not giving out Xisuma type excuses. We literally don't need to sleep, we're Eldritch gods after all; what good would we be if we were constrained by mortal limits?"
Gem laughed as well, taking the Eldritch god comment lightly, "I guess that's true. But do you guys just never sleep?"
"We do! It's just more for relaxation than anything. It's not a thing we need to do, just something we may want to."
The other nodded.
Pearl stood up, dusting off her pants theatrically before offering a hand to the other girl with a smile.
The redhead took it without hesitation, returning the smile given to her.
"Well then, I guess I should be going back to my own base now, shouldn't I?" Gem
Pearl shrugged. "You can crash at my place if you want." She offered.
"Thanks, I-i think I'll take you up on that."
The brunette smiled, "Well then, let's go?"
"Yeah." Gem agreed, "Let's go."
