Work Text:

Ranboo has been acting strange.

That in itself is not unusual, but he has been acting strange in a way that isn’t the normal amount of Ranboo being strange. He has been visiting Tommy in his dirt hut more than usual, leaving gifts around, and being much touchier.

Hell, the other day Tommy walked in on Ranboo placing a grass block in the middle of his home and then a solid diamond block directly next to it. He seemed incredibly pleased with himself as his tail swished back and forth. However, when he noticed Tommy standing there, watching, his face turned a deep purple color, and he poofed out of the room in a bust of purple particles. The purple particles whispered to each other in a language Tommy couldn’t understand as they swirled around where Ranboo just was. They were mocking one of them, that much was clear, as they snickered before fading away into nothingness again. Then Tommy was alone in his house with a random grass block and a diamond one.

That interaction was days ago, and he hadn’t seen Ranboo since then and is starting to worry. It is strange; the older was practically clinging to Tommy every second for the past two weeks and then disappeared for days.

He tried not to worry about it too much when the fourth day of no word from Ranboo and eventually fell into an uneasy rest.

Unbeknownst to the blond, a certain hybrid was quickly approaching his home with glowing purple eyes.

-

He needs to find him. He has been so stupid to stay away from one of the most important people in his hoard for days due to simple feelings of embarrassment. He holds a handful of Alliums in his hand and many more in his inventory(He has been collecting them for a very long time now), in hopes that he will accept them and forgive him for his neglectfulness.

When he reaches the door he doesn’t hesitate to slam it open. If he was in the right mind, Ranboo would have probably knocked shyly and not gone right in, but he isn’t in the right mind right now, and Ranboo is almost completely gone in the instincts that are flooding all of his senses. The instincts that are telling him that he needs to be near Tommy right now.

He knew Tommy would wake up when he opened the door so violently, Pogtopia had made him into a light sleeper. At first, Tommy looks scared which hurts Ranboo’s heart a lot, but then he finally seems to register that it's Ranboo, and Ranboo would rather put a sword through his own chest than hurt a hair on Tommy’s head. His features soften melting into confusion as he tilts his head to the side a bit, and my god Ranboo missed him.

His mouth is moving, but Ranboo is way too far gone to know what the words he is speaking mean. Tommy starts to get out of bed which is something that should not be done.

Tommy needs to stay here right now. It's cold and not safe out there. He needs to stay in bed where it is warm and where Ranboo can make sure nothing gets to him!

Ranboo quickly wraps Tommy up in his arms and pulls him down into the bed with him. A purr starts to stutter out of his closed lips and slowly increases in volume as Tommy stops wiggling around and settles down into his arms.

-

When Tommy fell asleep, the last thing he expected to happen was Ranboo coming into his house, fully emerging into his instincts, and babbling to him in a language he can’t understand.

He is currently curled up practically completely under Ranboo as the Ender hybrid has himself wrapped around Tommy protectively. Tommy sends a silent prayer to Prime that no one tries to visit him tonight. Because not only would it be embarrassing to have someone see him being coddled like a child, but Tommy is about ninety-three percent sure that Ranboo would maul them to death the moment they stepped in the house.

He signs and tilts his head up to look at Ranboo, whose eyes are currently glowing a deep purple. He smiles at the younger, mouth fully on display which is extremely unusual for the hybrid. The damn purring gets louder as Tommy hears the soft “thump thump thump” sound of Ranboo’s tail flicking up and down, hitting the mattress as it goes.

“You must really be in deep if you are openly purring ,” Tommy says knowing full well that Ranboo would have no idea what was said. He just pulls him closer and rubs his head on top of Tommy's, pushing his face into his hair as he somehow drags Tommy closer.

Tommy can count on his hands the number of times he has seen Ranboo purr, and almost all of them were when he was asleep and unaware that he even was purring. He thinks it's incredibly sweet that Ranboo is comfortable enough around him to purr, but right now, he would prefer if his best friend was more aware and not holding him as if he was about to be taken away.

There are more particles than normal; they buzz around both of them, whispering and laughing together. One moves close to Ranboo’s ear and whispers something, and all the other purple blurs seem to buzz in agreement. Ranboo’s eyes widen slightly as he lessens his grip on Tommy. He quickly moves up and pulls the boy with him; positioning the other so he is practically laying in his lap. Ranboo is speaking words and worriedly looking at Tommy, seemingly for any injuries. “Hey, hey! Woah, calm down big man. It’s okay, I'm okay. I didn’t get hurt when you were gone for those few days. Everything is okay.” he soothes gently, bringing his hands up to cup Ranboo’s face in hopes to calm him down. Miraculously it seems to work, and Ranboo’s feverish worrying stops as he places an Allium in Tommy’s hand.

“Oh. Is this for me?” Tommy asks, and the purring increases. “I will take that as a yes. Thank you.” Ranboo just goes back to rubbing his head against Tommy’s as if he was a cat instead of responding. Tommy huffs out a small laugh as he accepts his fate.

“I wish you knew that you are allowed hug and indulge in your instincts around me,” Tommy says as Ranboo continues to push against him. “I wouldn’t mind if you purred and shit around me. I don't mind. If it makes you feel better you could place grass blocks all around my house or something. I wouldn’t mind if it's you I guess...”

Tommy gently runs his hand against the petals of the Allium. “This one can go right next to the other one in my Ender Chest. I try to keep everything you give to me but it can be hard with people always stealing your shit you know?” The particles speed up at that and start whispering more frantically as Ranboo grips him closer, hunching himself over Tommy as if someone was coming to take him and the flower away. “Hey shhh, everything is okay Boo. They are only items, and no one can touch the things that really matter to me. I keep those in my Ender Chest. I’m okay.” Ranboo only huffs softly in response, but the purple particles do slow down and stop their insistent ramblings.

Tommy feels his eyelids start to get heavy as he stays pushed close to Ranboo. Sue him. It's warm and he knows Ranboo won’t be letting go anytime soon so he might as well try and catch up on his beauty sleep. He turns and moves his head under Ranboo’s chin as he drifts.

“G’night Boo. Love you.”

Ranboo only hums and purrs louder as the particles around them begin to settle.

-

Tommy woke the next day alone. When he first noticed the distinct lack of Ranboo, he freaked out, worried he might have gotten hurt. That is until he saw the chest sitting a few feet away from his bed.

He sighed, pulling his blanket around his shoulders to try and fight off the cold in his room as he looked at the chest.

Every slot in the chest is filled with Alliums except for one where a book is signed by Ranboo titled “For Tommy.”

Tommy huffs out a laugh as he opens it to read.

“I’m so sorry for intruding on your space last night. I didn’t mean to lose myself in my instincts, so yeah. Also, I love you too. :)” Tommy smiles as he decides that he will go and find Ranboo today so he can harass him for not only forcing Tommy to cuddle with him then not saying goodbye when he left, but then leaving such an awkward note behind.

He quickly gets changed and slips on his shoes before stepping out. Tommy takes a step back into his doorway though when he sees the flowers all planted through his yard. Any open space that used to be grass is covered with some sort of flower; each one is carefully planted and tended to.

Tommy can only take a guess on just who did it.

He finds himself running to Snow Chester trying to find the taller boy before he gets a chance to hide.

Ranboo might be stupid and awkward but honestly, Tommy doesn’t think he would trade him for the world.
